MAJOR GENERAL GREGORY C. PORTER

The General

Major General Greg Porter is the Adjutant General for Wyoming. As such, he directs the Wyoming Military Department, located in Cheyenne. He is responsible for formulating, developing and coordinating all policies, plans and programs affecting the close to 3,000 Army and members in Wyoming. He is also responsible for the Wyoming Veterans’ Affairs Commission and the Oregon Trail State Veterans’ Cemetery.

Before his appointment he served as the Director of the Joint Staff at the Wyoming National Guard Joint Force Headquarters. He was responsible to oversee the planning, training and execution of all National Guard Military Support to Civilian Authorities within Wyoming and to direct the various multi-service agencies of the Wyoming National Guard.

General Porter was commissioned in 1987 as a Second Lieutenant in the through the Army Reserve Officers’ Training at the University of Wyoming, Laramie, Wyoming. After his initial assignment as a field artillery officer in the 115th Field Artillery Brigade, Cheyenne, Wyoming, he joined the Active Guard Reserve program with an initial assignment in 1993 as an administrative officer with the 1st Battalion, 49th Field Artillery, in Sheridan, Wyoming. He was brevetted to the rank of major general in March 2019.

General Porter completed the Dual Status Commander’s Course in November 2013 and recently completed a 180-day tour to NGB serving as the project officer for the functional unification of NGB (Project Chrysalis).

Prior to his selection as the director of the joint staff he served as the Army chief of staff, the director of information management, and the joint operations officer.
