Traditional African dishes have evolved along with Indian and European cooking to create a vibrant variety of tastes for the inquisitive traveler. Beef, pork, and chicken are the basis of most main dishes, with occasional opportunities to try indigenous meats like farm-raised springbok (a game meat similar to venison). Seafood may also be available, especially along the coast. From dinner at an award-winning restaurant in Cape Town to festive meals in the lodge boma, great cuisine is an essential part of the experience when traveling in South Africa.
