Ibaraki University Study Abroad Program Why study at Ibaraki University? There are many reasons why students choose Ibaraki University for their study abroad experience. Here are some of the reasons. Education Small classes – Class sizes with an average of 6‐8 stu‐ dents ensures maximum progress in learning the Japanese language. Japan-related classes taught in English – In addition to the Japanese language program, students can learn about various aspects of Japan in English. For advanced students, an immersion program is also available. A wide range of activities – We offer a wide range of social, cultural and educational activities, which includes a homestay program, field trips, cultural events, an inter‐ national party, and much more. Student support Trip to Kamakura One-on-one tutoring – Each international student will be assigned a Japanese student as a tutor, who will assist them with their studies and in daily life. Inexpensive accommodations – Rooms with private bathroom and kitchen are avail‐ able. (As of 2010, a single room costs 5,900 yen per month) Location Close proximity to both Tokyo and Narita Airport - Mito is located within 100 km (65 miles) from the center of Tokyo, as well as from the Na‐ rita International Airport (the biggest international airport in Japan). Nice, Medium-sized city – Mito is the prefectural capital of Ibaraki with a population of 260,000. Compared to major cities in Japan, it is smaller and less expensive, yet is still a vibrant city with many cultural and historical attractions. Ibaraki University is a national university established in 1949. The university consists of 5 colleges, 4 graduate programs, and 1 diploma program in three campuses Ibaraki University (Mito, Hitachi, and Ami). The three campuses are all lo‐ cated in the Ibaraki Prefecture. There are approximately 7,500 undergraduate students and 1,100 graduate stu‐ dents at Ibaraki University.
