Denis COSTAOUEC, 2013, Skol Diwan in Paris: a step away from regionalism in the teaching of Breton, Sociolinguistic Studies vol.7.1 & 7.2, London, Equinox Publishing, p. 167–190. DOI : 10.1558/sols.v7i1&2.167 Abstract This paper presents some information about the opening of a bilingual (French–Breton) Diwan school in Paris, Diwan schools’ characteristics and their teaching methods and Breton teaching in general. It also proposes some considerations of the Diwan schools network’s policy, which draws its inspiration from a regionalist conception of the minority languages’ promotion and on the significance of the opening of a Diwan school in Paris. -

The chapters published in the Breton literary journal Al Liamm have appeared under the Breton form of my name, Reun ar C’halan ] 4 CHAPTER ONE MEVEN MORDIERN'S UNPUBLISHED MEMOIRS Meven Mordiern is recognized today as one of the foremost authors in the history of Breton literature. In many ways, he is quite exceptional. He was not a native speaker of Breton. He was not born in Brittany. He did not even have Breton parents. His real name was René Leroux, and he was born in Bordeaux, in 1878, the son of an army doctor. He later studied at the Lycée Condorcet, in Paris. In his childhood, however, he became passionately interested in the history and the culture of the Celts, to such an extent that he devoted his entire life to their study, eventually adopting the Breton name Meven Mordiern. His published works fully justify his preeminent place in the history of Breton literature (Yann Bouëssel du Bourg et Yann Brekilien, "La littérature bretonne", in La Bretagne , Yann Brekilien, ed.[Paris: Les Editions d'Organisation, 1982], pp. -

It contains speculation on some possible reasons for the growth of separatist feeling, and defines terms that are frequently used in the thesis. Chapter One gives an account of Breton history, tracing Brittany's evolution as an independent state, its absorption by France, the disappearartee of its remaining traces of independence, and the last spasms of action to regain this independence after having become merely part of a centralised state. -

No. 143 October 2017
1st collection of poetry by Reun ar C’halan No. 143 October 2017 1 BRO NEVEZ 143 October 2017 ISSN 0895 3074 Editorial EDITOR’S ADDRESS & E-MAIL I had fully intended to get this issue of Bro Nevez out in Lois Kuter, Editor September but the month simply ran out on me. I blame 605 Montgomery Road it on my retirement. After 27 years as the Manager of Volunteer Services at the Academy of Natural Sciences Ambler, PA 19002 U.S.A. museum in Philadelphia I retired at the end of September. Organizing 27 years of paper and computer (215) 886-6361 files to prepare for my successor turned out to be quite [email protected] time-consuming … but satisfying in leaving things in good order and in thinning out thousands of pages of U.S. ICDBL website: www.icdbl.org document to be archived or simply thrown out. My job was always interesting and I will miss the people I worked with as well as the hundreds of volunteers I helped get on board to support the museum and its The U.S. Branch of the International Committee for the research. I will not miss the increasing load of Defense of the Breton Language (U.S. ICDBL) was paperwork that the job required, nor will I miss the daily incorporated as a not-for-profit corporation on October 20, commute by sometimes woefully late trains, nor will I 1981. Bro Nevez ("new country" in the Breton language) is miss waking up to an alarm clock before the sun rises. -

Both are peripheral French regions with cultural identities markedly different from that of the overarching French norm, and both have been historically subject to ridicule from the political and cultural centre. By comparing a fair selection of bandes dessinées which are either set in Brittany or Corsica or feature characters from the relevant regions, this thesis sets out to discover whether representations of Brittany and Corsica differ according to the origin of the creators of the bandes dessinées and, if so, how. To facilitate this analysis, the bandes dessinées included for study have been classified as either external representations (published by mainstream bande dessinée publishers and/or the work of creators originating from outside the two regions) or internal representations (published by local Breton or Corsican companies and/or the work of local creators). -

Julho 2017 Tese De Doutoramento Em Ciências Musicais
Spatializing Galician Music at the International Festival of the Celtic World of Ortigueira Ana-María Alarcón-Jiménez Tese de Doutoramento em Ciências Musicais (Etnomusicologia) Julho 2017 Tese apresentada para cumprimento dos requisitos necessários à obtenção do grau de Doutor em Ciências Musicais (Etnomusicologia), realizada sob a orientação científica das professoras Doutoras Salwa El-Shawan Castelo-Branco e Cristina Sánchez-Carretero Aos meus pais, Hernando e Pilar, meus irmãos, Andrés e Camilo, meu sobrinho, Dante, e ao meu companheiro de viagem, Luis 2 ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS I would like to thank, first and foremost, my dissertation advisors Dr. Salwa El Shawan Castelo-Branco and Dr. Cristina Sánchez-Carretero. I am especially grateful for their continuous support and their intellectual and moral encouragement, sent tirelessly from and to different points of the Iberian Peninsula. In addition to the travels related to my field research in Galicia (Spain) and to the completion of my Ph.D. courses in Lisbon (Portugal), the writing of this dissertation took place on the move, as I came to a new continent, got a new nationality, and changed my city of residence three different times. Dr. Castelo-Branco and Dr. Sánchez-Carretero have been moving with me as advisors, by making use of the latest communication technologies as well as of online and off-line academic resources. This dissertation is one of the results of the research project entitled Celticism and its Musical Repercussions in Galicia and Northern Portugal, supported by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, coordinated by Professor Salwa El-Shawan Castelo-Branco and based at the Instituto de Etnomusicologia-Centro de Estudos em Música e Dança (INET M-D), of the Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas, Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
