The Department of Medicine is introducing a companion piece to the specialty doctor “flip book” foror primary care physicians. This new electronic doctors’s’ guide lists every physician in the Primary Care Instituteute – including internal medicine, family medicine and geriatricians – across 35 practice locations throughoutout City and the surrounding counties.

The Primary Care guide is a great tool for specialty physicians who want to refer their patients to a PCP based upon the patient’s preferred location. With a drop-down menu organized by borough and county, it’sit’s easy to find a practice nearby. And like the subspecialistalist guide, new physicians, who are building their practice,ce, are always featured at the top of the page.

So now every Department of Medicine physician hass an easy-to-use, electronic reference guide to all our doctors at their fingertips. The primary care guide canan be accessed at www.mountsinai.org/pcdocs and the subspecialist guide can be accessed at www.mountsinai.org/domdocs. Berson Award: On July 7, Chief Residents Rafael Harari, MD, and Yasmin Hernandez, MD, presented the Department of Medicine’s 42nd Annual Solomon Berson Award to Victor Schuster, MD, Baumritter Professor of Medicine and Senior Vice Dean, Albert Einstein School of Medicine for his lecture entitled, “Jack Sprat Growing Fat: Obesity Past, Present, Future.” The Berson lectureship is awarded to a physician- scientist who embodies the extraordinary investigative, selflessness and wonderful vitality of it’s namesake - Dr. Solomon Berson. Dr. Berson’s work in radioimmunoassay was the forerunner to modern nuclear medicine. He received the Nobel Prize in 1977, posthumously, for his work with Rosalyn Yallow, PhD. Dr. Schuster received the award for his discovery of prostaglandin transporter (PGT) and it’s impact on human and mouse genetics and drug discovery. New Faces Anthony V. Hall, JD, RN will serve as Manager, Performance Improvement and Quality Initiatives, for the Samuel Bronfman Department of Medicine. In this newly created position, Anthony will work with Dr. Beth Raucher, Vice Chair for Quality and Clinical Affairs and Julie Pearson, MPH, Quality Monitor Analyst on improvement projects and clinical quality initiatives in the department across the system. Before joining the Department of Medicine, Anthony had been a Clinical Risk Manager for The Mount Sinai Hospital and Risk Manager/ Quality Assurance Coordinator with our Mount Sinai Affiliate at Elmhurst Hospital Center. He also has prior experience as a clinical nurse director and attorney at law.

Anjali Nigalaye, MD, joins the Division of Hospital Medicine at Mount Sinai Beth Israel providing daytime coverage. Dr. Nigalaye received her medical degree at the Pritzker School of Medicine, University of Chicago and did her residency training in Internal Medicine at Medical Center. Prior to Mount Sinai, Dr. Nigalaye was a Clinical Instructor in Hospital Medicine at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Masih Shinwa, MD, joins the Division of Hospital Medicine at The Mount Sinai Hospital providing daytime coverage. Dr. Shinwa received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School in . He did his Internal Medicine internship and residency training at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.

Berestrand W. Willams, MD, joins the Division of General Internal Medicine at Mount Sinai Beth Israel. Dr. Williams received his medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and did his internship and residency training at Boston City Hospital/Boston University Medical Service. Dr. Williams will also be a Site Medical Director at the Beth Israel Medical Group on 14th Street.
