TWO-DAY AUCTION - Fine Chinese Art / 中 國藝術集珍 / Buddhism & Hinduism (CA0321) Fri, 5th Mar 2021 Lot 90 Starting price: €500 Estimate: €1000 A BEIGE JADE ‘BAT AND COIN’ CARVING, QING DYNASTY 清代玉蝙蝠五銖幣 China, 18th century. Masterfully carved as a bat resting with its wings spread out over a Wu Zhu cash coin. The semitranslucent stone of an even, pale beige color with cloudy white and russet inclusions as well as scattered grayish black patches. Note the finely incised detail work. Provenance: From a notable English private collector of Chinese jades. Condition: Good condition, one small chip and few minuscule nibbles to edges, the stone with natural fissures, some of which have developed into small hairline cracks over time. Weight: 20.9 g Dimensions: Width 4.2 cm Wu Zhu is a type of Chinese cash coin produced from the Han dynasty in 118 BC when they replaced the earlier San Zhu coins, until they themselves were replaced by the Kaiyuan Tongbao coins of the Tang dynasty in 621 AD. The name Wu Zhu literally means ‘five zhu’, which is a measuring unit officially weighing about 4 grams. In reality however, the weights and sizes of Wu Zhu cash coins varied significantly over the years. During the Han dynasty a large quantity of Wu Zhu coins were cast, but their production continued under subsequent dynasties until the Sui. Minting definitively ended in 618 with the establishment of the Tang dynasty. Wu Zhu coins were cast from 118 BC to 618 AD, having a span of 736 years, the longest for any coin in the history of the world. -

Insights for Intra-Party Tensions?
Hong Kong as a proxy battlefield Insights for Intra-Party tensions? Zhang Xiaoming 张晓明, the director of the State Council Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office 国务 院港澳办, was replaced a few days ago, as vice-director of the small leading group of the same name, by the current Minister of Public Security, Zhao Kezhi 赵克志. That said, it seems Hong Kong’s issues run deeper than just a few personnel appointments. Is the special administrative zone becoming a proxy battleground for opposing political forces inside the Party? The timeline and people involved suggest that parts of the ongoing crisis might have been made by design by outgoing political networks amid the anti-corruption campaign. From the selection of Carrie Lam 林郑月娥, the underpinnings of the Hong Kong and Macau affairs system, to the bid for the London Stock Exchange, there is more than meets the eye. The “Manchurian” Candidate and the Jiangpai From the beginning, the opinion was that Madame Lam would be a short-live replacement for Liang Zhenying 梁振英. Carrie Lam, who actually joined the protest – even for a brief moment – for universal suffrage back in 2014, stayed close to the negotiation with Beijing, unlike some of her counterparts who were refused entry in Shenzhen back in 2015. She then became one of the favorite faces of the administration, especially in late 2016, when Liang Zhenying1 announced he would not be running for re-election. Summary Report on the Crime of Live Organ Harvesting in China by the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (WOIPFG) Table of Contents Chapter 1: The Explosive Growth of China’s Organ Transplantation since 1999 13 I. The number of hospitals in China that perform liver transplants has increased 20 fold since the persecution of Falun Gong launched in 1999 13 II. Comparison of annual national liver transplant figures show that transplant surgeries have increased 180-fold since 1999 14 Chapter 2: Existence of a nationwide living organ bank of prisoners of conscience 14 Evidence I: Reverse matching – organs are waiting for patients. The average waiting time for an organ transplant is 1-2 weeks in China 15 1) Shanghai Changzheng Hospital Transplant Center states on its liver transplant application form that the average waiting time for a liver transplant is one week. 2) Oriental Transplant Center of Tianjin First Central Hospital 3) Replacement organs are easily found, and another surgery can be performed within one week 2.
