  • Appendices I
Appendices I. Archival Sources Archival research for this monograph was conducted in Lviv, the former capital of Galicia, in 1983. To orient myself in the rich archival holdings of this city, I benefitted from the unpublished manuscript of Patricia K. Grimsted's forthcoming guide to Soviet Ukrainian archives and manuscript repositories' as well as from a number of published works.' Plans to use archives in Ternopil and Ivano-Frankivsk were frustrated, as was the plan to use the manuscript collection of the Institute of Literature of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR (in Kiev). Work in the Austrian archives in 1982 did not uncover sources of direct relevance to the subject of this monograph, but the Viennese archives remain an important and little-explored repository of historical documentation on Galician history. The richest collection of unpublished sources on the history of Galicia during the Austrian period is located in the Central State Historical Archives of the Ukrainian SSR in Lviv (U Tsentrainyi derzhavnyi istorychnyi arkhiv URSR u rn. Lvovi; abbre- viated as TsDIAL). The Central Archives have inherited the papers of various Galician government institutions and major civic organizations. Unfortunately, there is no published guide to these archives, although a number of articles describe aspects of their holdings.' The papers of the Presidium of the Galician Viceroy's Office (U Haiytske narnisnytstvo, rn. Lviv. Prezydiia) are contained in TsDIAL, fond 146, opysy 4-8 (and presumably others). Particularly valuable for this study were documents dealing with the publication and confiscation of political brochures and periodicals, including , Patricia K.

ROCZNIKI TEOLOGICZNE Volume LXIV, issue 4 – 2017 English version DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.18290/rt.2017.64.4-5en REV. ŁUKASZ KRUCKI * THE ARMENIAN RITE ARCHDIOCESE OF LVIV IN LIGHT OF THE ARCHDIOCESAN SCHEMA FROM 1939 A b s t r a c t. Diocesan schema constitute a valuable source of knowledge on various ecclesial, diocesan or monastic communities. These important publications were also drafted for Eastern Rite Catholic Churches. One of the most interesting documents, albeit largely unknown, is the Armenian Rite Archdiocese of Lviv schema prepared in 1939, currently stored within the Arch- diocese Archive in Gniezno. The information contained within this document reference the period directly preceding the start of the Second World War, which for the Armenian Rite Archdiocese of Lviv was a time of sede vacante after the death of Archbishop Józef Teodorowicz. Thanks to data contained within the schema, it is possible to recreate an image of the Armenian Rite Arch- diocese of Lviv, which in 1939 was divided into 3 deanaries (Lviv, Stanisławów and Kuck), 8 ter- ritorial parishes and 1 personal parish (for the military in Łowicz). It consisted of ca. 5300 fol- lowers and 25 clergymen, of which 17 worked directly as priests. The schema additionally sup- plies a lot of information related to rich Armenian history and culture, their input with regards to propagating education in the Eastern borderlands and to aiding those in need. Key words: Armenian Rite Archdiocese of Lviv, priesthood, organisation of the Armenian Rite Catholic Church, Józef Teodorowicz, Dionizy Kajetanowicz, Armenians. Since King Casimir the Great incorporated Halych Ruthenia into the Kingdom of Poland, the Armenians became an important ethnic group in- habiting Polish lands.

  • Lviv Achievements of Armenian Julian Oktawian Zachariewicz
HistorySocial Philosophyof Ukraine 25 UDC 72(092)(477.83) LEVYK BOHDAN, Regional Scientific-Educational center at Lviv Polytechnic National University e-mail: [email protected], ORCID: 0000-0001-5100-0834 LVIV ACHIEVEMENTS OF ARMENIAN JULIAN OKTAWIAN ZACHARIEWICZ The path of life of Julian Oktawian Zachariewicz (17.07.1837 - 27.12.1898), talented Armenian architect, who dedicated himself to the scientific and pedagogical activities in Lviv Polytechnic National University, then Imperial-royal polytechnic school, was traced within the framework of the study of the topic "Prominent figures in culture and development of Lviv". Having founded the Galician School of Architecture, he implemented his projects in administrative and private buildings of Lviv and crown land of Galicia and Vladimiria (Lodomeria), which remain a decoration and an example of architectural mastery until now. As part of the study, the author introduces to the science newspaper publications of past years (pre-Soviet period, September 1939), dedicated to the solemn dates associated with the name of the prominent architect. The author concludes that Julian Oktawian Zachariewicz's biography can be considered as the historical source of research on the development of "neo" style architecture in the administrative, sacred and private urban buildings of Lviv of the Austro-Hungarian period (1872-1918). Despite the fact that Zachariewicz himself did not focus on his nationality, his relation to the Armenian diaspora, the Armenian ethnic group and Armenian Christianity reflected on his work and this aspect should be researched in the future. Keywords: Zachariewicz Julian Oktawian; Technical Academy on Lviv; Lviv High Technical School; the Tsisar-Royal Polytechnic School; Lviv Polytechnic National University.
