(1) Joss Whedon has often stated that each year of Buffy the Vampire Slayer was planned to end in such a way that, were the show not renewed, the finale would act as an apt summation of the series so far. This was obviously truer of some years than others – generally speaking, the odd-numbered years were far more clearly possible endings than the even ones, offering definitive closure of a phase in Buffy’s career rather than a slingshot into another phase. Both Season Five and Season Seven were particularly planned as artistically satisfying conclusions, albeit with very different messages – Season Five arguing that Buffy’s situation can only be relieved by her heroic death, Season Seven allowing her to share, and thus entirely alleviate, slayerhood. Being the Chosen One is a fatal burden; being one of the Chosen Several Thousand is something a young woman might live with. (2) It has never been the case that endings in Angel were so clear-cut and each year culminated in a slingshot ending, an attention-grabber that kept viewers interested by allowing them to speculate on where things were going. Season One ended with the revelation that Angel might, at some stage, expect redemption and rehumanization – the Shanshu of the souled vampire – as the reward for his labours, and with the resurrection of his vampiric sire and lover, Darla, by the law firm of Wolfram & Hart and its demonic masters (‘To Shanshu in LA’, 1022).

    Francesco Parisi1 ENTROPY IN PROPERTY ABSTRACT: The title of this article suggests that property is subject to a fundamental law of entropy, namely that it is affected by a one-directional bias leading towards increasing fragmentation. The application of the laws of entropy to property further indicates that one can avoid this tendency only in the purely abstract world of zero transaction costs. Building upon this consideration, I consider the choice of remedies in property law, focusing on legal rules that are designed to promote (a) functional, (b) legal, and (c) physical unity in property. I provide examples drawn from both common law and civil law systems, supporting the hypothesis that legal rules are instrumental in combating entropy in property. Legal historians occasionally overlook the existence of the economic forces that account for the historic evolution of law. While we have a relatively well developed record of the historical transformations and comparative variations in the law of property, we tend to give only marginal consideration to the important dynamics that determined such transformations and differences. In this paper, I wish to provide an economic theory to explain some of the apparent anomalies in the evolution of property law. Building upon the recent literature on property fragmentation (Heller, 1998; Buchanan-Yoon, 2000; Parisi-Schulz-Depoorter, 2000) this article suggests that property is subject to a fundamental law of entropy.2 In the property context, entropy induces a one-directional bias 1 Professor of Law & Co-Director, J.M.     Mythmoot III: Ever On Proceedings of the 3rd Mythgard Institute Mythmoot BWI Marriott, Linthicum, Maryland January 10-11, 2015 "Live in the Lie for a While”: Closure in Angel: After the Fall Thomas Johnson Abstract: In Understanding Comics, Scott McCloud argues that comics is "a medium where the audience is a willing and conscious collaborator" in the process of "closure" (65), wherein the "human imagination takes two separate images and transforms them into a single idea" (66). This presentation examined how issue eight of the Angel: After the Fall miniseries, written by Brian Lynch and with art by Nick Runge and colors by John Rauch, is a prime example of this phenomenon. Angel, the television series, leaves the viewer without full closure; "Not Fade Away" ends in medias res as a way of reinforcing the show's central theme that the fight against evil is eternal. In many respects, After the Fall seems to offer the reader the closure that the television finale lacked. However, by bringing Wesley Wyndam-Pryce back from the dead in a non- corporeal form, the comic miniseries also complicates the apparent resolution of the character's arc as depicted in "Not Fade Away."
