The Doo-Wahs are an amazing band with a unique, original sound using guitars, fiddles, harmonica, accordion and of course, their voices! They define their sound as "high energy country with a cajun twist". Their tight musicianship and powerful arrangements of classic and original songs have made them favorites everywhere they go! BACKGROUND INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS Country Music has its origins in the folk music of Great Britain and Ireland. The music changed and grew in America because of the influence of music brought from other parts of Europe, Latin America and Africa. Country Music moved from the farm to modern America due to radio. Artists became professionals, but the simple harmonies and themes of writing about working people has never changed. In the 1950’s country Music started to become strongly influenced by cross over artists like Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley. Today, Country Music is being strongly influenced by pop music. VOCABULARY WORDS Cajun music The music of Louisiana. Strongly influenced by the local French descendants. The predominant instruments of Cajun music are the fiddle and the accordion. Country music An American musical style with roots in the South. It is also strongly influenced by Western cowboy music and folk music. Most of the instrumentation country music is in string instruments such as banjos, guitars and violin, and a non-string instrument such as the harmonica. -

Deana Carter Danny Myrick
Deana Carter DEANA CARTER, the daughter of famed studio guitarist and producer Fred Carter, Jr., grew up surrounded by musical greats, including Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, Waylon Jennings, and Simon & Garfunkel. She developed her songwriting skills at writer’s nights throughout Nashville, but her real break came when one of her demo tapes fell into the hands of Willie Nelson, who remembered Deana as a child. Impressed with how she’d grown as a songwriter, Nelson asked Deana to perform along with John Mellencamp, Kris Kristofferson, and Neil Young, as the only female solo artist to appear at Farm Aid VII in 1994. Her 1996 debut album Did I Shave My Legs for This? quickly climbed to the top of both the country and pop charts, quickly achieving multi-platinum status. "Strawberry Wine,” the first single from the album, was awarded CMA's 1997 Single of the Year. Seven albums and a decade later, Deana is still writing and producing for both the pop/rock and country markets when not on the road touring. Her superstar success continues to be evident. Her chart topper “You & Tequila,” co-written with Matraca Berg and recorded by Kenny Chesney, was nominated in 2011 as CMA’s “Song of the Year” and received two Grammy nods. Carter also recently co-wrote and produced a new album for recording artist Audra Mae while putting the finishing touches on her own Southern Way of Life that hit the shelves last December. LIVE CONTINUING THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BIRTH OF LEGENDARY GRAMMY®-WINNING BLUESMAN JOHN LEE HOOKER, TRAVELING EXHIBIT WILL FEATURE RARE RECORDINGS AND UNIQUE ITEMS FROM THE HOOKER ESTATE; HOOKER'S DAUGHTERS, DIANE HOOKER-ROAN AND ZAKIYA HOOKER, TO APPEAR AT MUSEUM FOR SPECIAL OPENING NIGHT PROGRAM LOS ANGELES, CALIF. (MARCH 6, 2018) —To continue commemorating what would have been legendary GRAMMY®-winning blues artist John Lee Hooker’s 100th birthday, the GRAMMY Museum® will open John Lee Hooker: King Of The Boogie in the Special Exhibits Gallery on the second floor on Thursday, March 29, 2018. On the night of the opening, Diane Hooker-Roan and Zakiya Hooker, daughters of the late bluesman, will appear at the GRAMMY Museum for a special program. Presented in conjunction with the John Lee Hooker Estate and Craft Recordings, the exhibit originally opened at GRAMMY Museum Mississippi—Hooker's home state—in 2017, the year of Hooker's centennial. On display for a limited time only through June 2018, the exhibit will include, among other items: • A rare 1961 Epiphone Zephyr—one of only 13 made that year—identical to the '61 Zephyr played by John Lee Hooker. Plus, a prototype of Epiphone's soon-to-be-released Limited Edition 100th Anniversary John Lee Hooker Zephyr signature guitar • Instruments such as the Gibson ES-335, Hohner HJ5 Jazz, and custom Washburn HB35, all of which were played by Hooker • The Best Traditional Blues Recording GRAMMY Hooker won, with Bonnie Raitt, for "I'm In The Mood" at the 32nd Annual GRAMMY Awards in 1990 • Hooker's Best Traditional Blues Album GRAMMY for Don't Look Back, which was co-produced by Van Morrison and Mike Kappus and won at the 40th Annual GRAMMY Awards in 1998 • A letter to Hooker from former President Bill Clinton • The program from Hooker's memorial service, which took place on June 27, 2001, in Oakland, Calif. -

(Signature, Date) Abstract This thesis aims to provide a comprehensive and systematic analysis about the growing popularity of Korean pop music (K-pop) worldwide in recent years. On one hand, the international expansion of K-pop can be understood as a result of the strategic planning and business execution that are created and carried out by the entertainment agencies. On the other hand, external circumstances such as the rise of social media also create a wide array of opportunities for K-pop to broaden its global appeal. The research explores the ways how the interplay between external circumstances and organizational strategies has jointly contributed to the global circulation of K-pop. The research starts with providing a general descriptive overview of K-pop. Following that, quantitative methods are applied to measure and assess the international recognition and global spread of K-pop. Next, a systematic approach is used to identify and analyze factors and forces that have important influences and implications on K-pop’s globalization. The analysis is carried out based on three levels of business environment which are macro, operating, and internal level. PEST analysis is applied to identify critical macro-environmental factors including political, economic, socio-cultural, and technological. -

Elvis Costello began writing songs at the age of thirteen. 2017 marked the 40th anniversary of the release of his first record album, My Aim Is True. He is perhaps best known for the songs, “Alison”, “Pump It Up”, “Everyday I Write The Book” and his rendition of the Nick Lowe song, “(What’s So Funny ‘Bout) Peace Love and Understanding”. His record catalogue of more than thirty albums includes the contrasting pop and rock & roll albums: This Year’s Model, Armed Forces, Imperial Bedroom, Blood and Chocolate and King Of America along with an album of country covers, Almost Blue and two collections of orchestrally accompanied piano ballads, Painted From Memory - with Burt Bacharach and North. He has performed worldwide with his bands, The Attractions, His Confederates - which featured two members of Elvis Presley’s “T.C.B” band - and his current group, The Imposters – Steve Nieve, Pete Thomas and Davey Faragher - as well as solo concerts, most recently his acclaimed solo show, “Detour”. Costello has entered into songwriting collaborations with Paul McCartney, Burt Bacharach, the Brodsky Quartet and with Allen Toussaint for the album The River In Reverse, the first major label recording project to visit New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and completed there while the city was still under curfew. In 2003, Costello acted as lyrical editor of six songs written with his wife, the jazz pianist and singer Diana Krall for her album, The Girl In The Other Room. He has written lyrics for compositions by Charles Mingus, Billy Strayhorn and Oscar Peterson and musical settings for words by W.B.
