Godfather of Harlem Godfather of harlem Continue Epix Forest Whitaker under the direction of the godfather of Harlem will return to another circle. Epix has renewed the drama series, from ABC's signature, for a 10-episode second season. Production for Season 2 will begin in New York later this year. While Epix doesn't release audience data, The Godfather of Harlem, spurred by a strong word of mouth, was a breakout hit, becoming the network's top series. Epix president Michael Wright showed some ratings data by announcing the resumption of the drama. The Godfather of Harlem season one has been a remarkable success, three times the previous viewing numbers for the network and earning acclaim from both critics and viewers alike, Wright said. We couldn't wait to reunite with Chris, Paul, Forest and the team at ABC Signature to continue telling this compelling and extremely relevant story. While never in doubt, the Season 2 update for the godfather of Harlem took some time; it comes more than two months after Season 1 ended its run on the net. Created by Chris Brancato and Paul Eckstein, Harlem's godfather tells a story inspired by notorious crime boss Bambi Johnson (Whitaker), who in the early 1960s returned from an eleven-year prison sentence to find the area he once ruled in ruins. With streets controlled by the Italian mafia, Bambi must take over the Genoese criminal family to regain control. During a brutal battle, he forms an alliance with radical preacher Malcolm X - catching Malcolm's political rise in the crosshairs of social upheaval and a mob war that threatens to tear the city apart. The Godfather of Harlem is clashing the underworld and the civil rights movement in one of the most tumultuous times in American history. The first season also includes Vincent D'Onofrio, Ilfenesh Khadira, Nigel Tutch, Giancarlo Esposito, Lucy Fry, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Rafi Gavron and Antoinette Crowe-Legacy. The Godfather of Harlem is produced by ABC Signature Studios, part of Disney Television Studios. Brancato and Eckstein executive productions with Whitaker and Nina Ian Bongiovi, along with James Acheson, Markoanne Smith and Joe Chappelle, Swizz Beatz serves as executive music producer. Admissions aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes reported a 92% approval rating with an average rating of 7.44/10, based on 24 reviews. The critical consensus of the website reads: As sharply dressed as it is smartly written, the Godfather of Harlem walks familiar blocks to its own rhythm and makes a strong first impression. Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned a season-high 72 points out of 100, based on 10 critics, indicating generally favorable Cheryl Kala of South African said: The Godfather of Harlem is a perfect example of what modern television is capable of today. Whitaker Bumpy's character is a drug lord, but also just a man trying to make sense of the world and connect with his family.
