Information Note for Participants 2016 OECD-IOPS Global Forum on Private Pensions “Making Private Pensions Work Better” 9-10 November 2016 Hong Kong, China Information Note for Participants Organisation The OECD-IOPS Global Forum, organised by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the International Organisation of Pension Supervisors (IOPS) and Hong Kong’s Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA), will take place from 9 to 10 November 2016 in Hong Kong, China. Registration Please note that participation in the Forum is by invitation only. Transportation from the Airport The Hong Kong International Airport is located at Chek Lap Kok on Lantau Island, which is approximately 36 km (45 minutes drive) from the Conference Venue. Delegates can travel to Kowloon by public transport (e.g. on the MTR’s Airport Express Line), take a taxi, or arrange for a transfer with the hotel where they are staying. Approximate fares for different types of transportation from the airport to the Conference Hotel are as follows: 1. The average low and high temperatures range from 19°C (66°F) to 24°C (75°F) . Currency The legal tender in Hong Kong, China is the Hong Kong Dollar (https://currency-converter.net/). Most major bank branches offer currency exchange services. Foreign currency exchange are available at the airport and throughout the city centre. Electricity Local voltage is 220 volts, and the city uses type G power plugs/sockets. Medical Services There are a number of government hospitals and private medical clinics located near the Conference Venue from which medical assistance is available. It also summarizes the major views and concerns expressed by Legislative Council ("LegCo") Members on the subject. Background 2. AEL provides a dedicated express railway service linking the city centre with the Hong Kong International Airport ("HKIA") and the AsiaWorld-Expo ("AWE"). It commenced operation in July 1998 to tie in with the opening of the new airport, and has been extended to AWE since December 2005 to serve passengers patronizing the exhibition centre. AEL is operated by the MTR Corporation Limited ("MTRCL"). At present, there are five stations along AEL, namely, AWE Station, Airport Station, Tsing Yi Station, Kowloon Station and Hong Kong Station. Patronage 3. As the clienteles of AEL are mainly passengers travelling to and from HKIA, MTRCL advises that its patronage fluctuates and is affected by various factors such as travel season and overall economic conditions. From 2006 to 2016, the average daily patronage of AEL increased from around 26 200 to around 44 100. Having regard to the growing loading in recent years, MTRCL has enhanced train frequency of AEL from 12 minutes to 10 minutes since January 2012, with a view to providing a better travelling environment for passengers. The patronage figures for the past decade are at Appendix I. - 2 - Fares 4. According to the Operating Agreement signed between the Government and MTRCL ("OA") upon the rail merger in 2007, AEL is not a public transport mode for daily commuting, but mainly for business and travelling.

Winter Season (December - March) is the most relaxing and comfortable time to go to Hong Kong but besides the weather, there's little else to do since the "Sale Season" occurs during Summer. There are some sales during Christmas & Chinese New Year but 90% of the clothes are for winter. Hong Kong can get very foggy during winter, as such, visit to the Peak is a hit-or-miss affair. A foggy bird's eye view of HK isn't really nice. Summer Season (May - October) is similar to Manila's weather, very hot but moving around in Hong Kong can get extra uncomfortable because of the high humidity which gives the "sticky" feeling. Hong Kong's rainy season also falls on their summer, July & August has the highest rainfall count and the typhoons also arrive in these months. The Sale / Shopping Festival is from the start of July to the start of September. If the sky is clear, the view from the Peak is great. Avoid going to Hong Kong when there are large-scale exhibitions or ongoing tournaments like the Hong Kong Sevens Rugby Tournament because hotel prices will be significantly higher.     PRESS STATEMENT 1 September 2019 MTR Strongly Condemns the Continuous Vandalism at MTR Stations Apart from the damage of varying extents caused at multiple MTR stations which resulted in the suspension of service on five railway lines yesterday (31 August 2019), some people once again vandalised station facilities today (1 September 2019). These acts have endangered the safety of staff and passengers, as well as station and train operations. The MTR Corporation strongly condemns these acts and has reported the cases to the Police. A number of stations including Tung Chung, Tsing Yi, Lam Tin, Kwun Tong, Diamond Hill, Lok Fu, Tsuen Wan, Lai King, Sha Tin, Sha Tin Wai, Siu Hong and Tin Shui Wai stations were damaged today (as at 10:00pm). Some people damaged CCTVs, ticket issuing machines and add value machines, took away fire extinguishers and defaced stations, etc. In addition, a large group of people trespassed into the area of the Station Control Room at Tung Chung Station which threatened the safety of the station staff. The staff therefore were required to evacuate. In addition, a door at the Station Control Room of Tsing Yi Station was also damaged. Accordingly, it was necessary for the station staff to summon Police to handle the situation. The station was closed afterwards with assistance from the Police. Besides, there were people trespassing and throwing objects at a section of track near Airport Station on the Airport Express. Stones and steel bars were also thrown onto the tracks. These acts posed high risks to safe train operations. The service on the Airport Express was therefore suspended due to safety considerations.

The AsiaWorld-Expo is developed and operated by Hong Kong IEC Limited, a joint venture formed by the Government, the Airport Authority and IEC Holdings Ltd. It is the world’s first exhibition and event venue that is fully integrated with an international airport and an in-venue railway station. In 2004, MTRCL reached an agreement with Hong Kong IEC Limited for the design, construction, financing and operation of a new AEL station to serve the AsiaWorld-Expo. Construction works of the station commenced in June 2004. The works are anticipated to complete by end 2005 to tie in with the opening of the AsiaWorld-Expo. 1 AsiaWorld-Expo Station (AWE) 4. AWE, which is a new AEL station located approximately 1 km away from the Airport Station, will become the new terminus of AEL.
