EXPERIENCE ConservArt, LLC, 1999-Present Sculpture Conservator Francis Miller founded ConservArt LLC in 1999 to provide professional conservation treatments that uphold the conservation standards and ethics as outlined by the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works. Conservation Technical Associates, LLC (Formerly Fine Objects Conservation) 1995-1999 Assistant Conservator Examined and conserved notable bronze, copper, steel, stone and terra cotta sculptures and fountains. In addition to outdoor artworks, museum objects and sculpture were also treated, including: 20th century plaster, bronze and stone sculptures, and the West Wall of the Tomb of Kapura, an Ancient Egyptian wall relief and false door complex constructed of carved and painted limestone. -Managed all aspects of large scale projects from coordinating research, acquiring materials, to managing staff and subcontractors -Removed bronze corrosion products using water jet systems and the JOS vortex system -Patinated bronze sculptures with hot and cold patinas -Applied protective wax and acrylic coatings to bronze to reduce environmental weathering -Removed soiling and crusts on stone sculpture using nebulous misting systems, poultices, chelating agents, ProSoCo products, and the JOS vortex system. -Sculpted marble losses and repaired cracks using color and aggregate matched cementitious fills -Analyzed pointing mortars and developed new mortars of appropriate composition and aggregate -Tested surfaces for solubility and cleaned with the appropriate solvent or solution -Removed adhesives with organic solvents

-Consolidated fragile surfaces and paint layers, applied plaster fills and in-painted losses

-Designed salt extraction systems utilizing poultices and pressure chambers 1

Chicago Park District, 1991-1995 Conservation Assistant Maintained and provided complete conservation treatments, prepared reports, and photographically documented artworks in Chicago’s parks under the direction of conservator Andrzej Dajnowski -Acted as liaison between the CPD and Save Outdoor Sculpture! -Created and maintained conservation archives for the collection -Managed summer interns -Removed bronze corrosion products with bronze wool, bronze brushes and pressurized walnut shell systems -Repaired bronze casting flaws with lead fills and threaded bronze inserts -Cleaned stone monuments of graffiti with organic solvents, solvent based strippers and poultices -Consolidated broken sections of granite with stainless pins and epoxy -Assisted with Dutchman repairs -Cleaned, consolidated, and in-painted wooden sculptures

Chicago Historical Society, 1994 Volunteer Assisted the chief conservator, Carol Turchan in the photographs and paper lab -Removed unstable backing material from gelatin photographs -Mended tears with Japanese tissue and wheat starch paste

Oriental Institute Museum, 1994 Volunteer Assisted the conservator with the rehousing of the ancient Egyptian and Nubian collection -Rehoused organic artifacts into acid free containers in vapor sealed cases -Constructed supports for fragile artifacts using archival materials
