December 2016 / January 2017, Polish American News - Page 11 Boothwyn man recognized for preserving Polish culture and heritage Delaware County is a community of rich diversity and culture and, at the November 16th Council meeting, County Council recognized the contributions of the Polish American community, particularly Boothwyn resident David Chominski, 2016 Grand Marshal of the Pulaski Day Parade in Philadelphia. “Many people know that I am proud of my Irish roots, but not many know that I am one-quarter Polish,” said Councilman John McBlain who joined Chominski in this year’s parade. Since the fi rst Polish settlers arrived in America on October 1, 1608, Polish Americans have been a vibrant part of America’s history, culture and communities. In fact, the histories of the United States and Poland are Polish Roman Catholic Union of America. intertwined as adopting the fi rst and second democratic constitutions in the world. In May there was a ceremony at the historic Chester Courthouse when Delaware County residents commemorated the Polish Constitution. In 2016, Polish-Americans celebrate the 237th anniversary of the death of General Casimir Pulaski, father of the American Cavalry. “In Delaware County, we are proud to have a very active and proud member of the Polish American community, David Chominski,” McBlain said. David currently serves as the president of the Polish American Heritage Association of Delaware County, St. Hedwig’s Society, the Delaware County representative to the Polish American Congress and a member of the Polish National Alliance. This year, he also served as the Grand Marshal of the Pulaski Day Parade held on Oct. 2 in Philadelphia. When he’s not promoting the Polish tradition and culture, he works in the Durable Medical Equipment business. A native of Rev. Andrew Bilinski and members of St. Valentine Polish National Catholic Chester, he now lives in Boothwyn. Church. “Not only does he believe in preserving the rich traditions of his heritage for future generations, he also feels it is important to remind people what happened in Poland in 1939. He has visited Auschwitz- Birkenau, the largest of the Nazi extermination camps,” McBlain noted. “In Delaware County, we are fortunate to have people like David who help today’s generation learn about the past. He is also a civic leader who gives much time to many causes.”
