  • Western Springs Speedway
IN THE MATTER of Section 16 Resource Management Act 1991 A N D IN THE MATTER of the WESTERN SPRINGS SPEEDWAY ________________________________________________________________ REPORT OF INDEPENDENT COMMISSIONER HON PETER SALMON Q.C. ________________________________________________________________ INTRODUCTION 1. There has been a speedway at the Western Springs Stadium since 1929. Originally it was used for motor cycle racing. From about 1937 it began to be used for midget car racing. After a break during World War II, speedway racing has continued on a regular basis up to the present time. It seems that the intensity of the operation at the Stadium has varied over the years. 2. From time to time there have been complaints concerning the noise from speedway activities. At least since the early 1990s there have been regular complaints about noise but according to local residents, complaints to the Council in fact go back over decades. In December 1994 an Independent Hearings Commissioner heard submissions on the proposed Concept Plan for the Stadium and gave his decision in March of 1995. That decision, which became part of the Auckland City District Plan (Isthmus section) operative 1999, recommended certain noise limits and progressive reductions which have not been met and which it is claimed, cannot be met. 3. A group of residents incorporated themselves as the Springs Stadium Residents Association Inc. They made an application for an Enforcement Order to the Environment Court. In October 2005 the parties to that application, which included Springs Promotions Limited, the promoter of the speedway, and the Auckland City Council, participated in a mediation and reached agreement on various issues set out in a record of mediated agreements dated 5 October 2005.

  • New Zealand Athletes Who Have Set World Records and World Bests
New Zealand Athletes who have set World Records and World Bests Compiled by Steve Hollings The first New Zealand athlete ever to hold a World Record (World Best) was John Hempton who ran 9 4/5 seconds for the 100 yards on what is now Waitangi Day (6 February) 1892 at the New Zealand Championships at (the then) Lancaster Park in Christchurch. The difference between a World Record and a World Best performance is that the former is a performance that is ratified by the International Association of Athletics Federations, or its predecessor the International Amateur Athletics Federation (IAAF) where the performance was achieved using strictly enforced regulations at the time the performance was achieved. These regulations have changed over time and the list of events where World Records can be achieved has also changed over time. For example, the Marathon has only recently – 2004, become an event where a World Record can be established and set. Previous to this date performances in the Marathon were regarded as World Best performances. Between 1921 and 1935, Women’s performances were recognized by the Women’s World Federation (FSFI), but after that time the ratification of Women’s records fell under the auspices of the IAAF. A World Best performance is determined as being a performance that was achieved in an event that was/is not on the list of events recognized for World Records or was achieved prior to the establishment of the IAAF or was never ratified because of certain circumstances. Only six New Zealand men - Peter Snell (800m, 880 yards, 1000m, 1 mile – twice), Jack Lovelock (1500m, 1 mile), John Walker (1 mile, 2000m), Murray Halberg (2 miles, 3 miles), Dick Quax (5000m) and William (Bill) Baillie (20 kilometres, 1 hour) have held World Records that were ratified by the IAAF.

  • Section 92 Response Attachments Attachment 1
Section 92 Response Attachments Attachment 1 - Auckland Council s92 further informaton request letter Memo 18/09/2012 To: Paulette Gagamoe - Project Management Support Projects, Practice and Resolutions From: Vanessa Tanner – Senior Archaeologist Environmental Strategy and Policy Subject: Central Interceptor review of archaeological reports for the Central Interceptor Main Project Works and CSO Collector Sewers I have read the Clough and Associates (July 2012) Central Interceptor Project: Archaeological Assessment and the Clough and Associates (August 2012) Auckland Central Interceptor – CSO Collector Sewers: Preliminary Archaeological Assessment. The reports are an assessment of pre- 1900 archaeological values only; they do not address other types of historic heritage such as wahi tapu or sites of significance to Maori, historic structures, post 1900 infrastructure or historic trees. I understand that wahi tapu and Maori cultural values are addressed in a separate section of the AEE which is appropriate. According to the AEE (p. 5) the Auckland Isthmus is serviced by the older components of Watercare’s wastewater network. Much of this network was constructed in the earlier part of the 20th century to support a developing Auckland. The AEE does not supply any further information on the historic values associated with this infrastructural component of Auckland’s development history; nor are the effects of the present proposal on the historic heritage values of this system, which will be connected to or decommissioned assessed. The proposed Central Interceptor is a 13km gravity tunnel with three sewer tunnels extending from the main tunnel westwards requiring a series of connections to the existing trunk sewer network to pick up wastewater flow.

  • Chief Executive Report – December 2019 Report to Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development Chairperson and Board
OPEN December 2019 Chief Executive Report – December 2019 Report to Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development Chairperson and Board Chief Executive Overview We have received the Mayor’s Letter of Expectation for 2020/21 (attached). In addition to a number of common expectations across all CCOs, the four key areas of focus for ATEED, signalled by the Mayor are: 1. The council expects ATEED to continue implementing its strategy which focusses on quality jobs for all Aucklanders, through its economic development and destination activities. This includes the following priority projects: • planning and preparation, in partnership with the council group and others, for the successful delivery of Auckland’s 2021 events year, including the leverage and legacy components • delivery of a coordinated Auckland Investment Story (InvestAKL) • south and west regeneration, in partnership with the council group and others. 2. ATEED should ensure that where not already captured, the SOI three-year work programme includes at a high level the planned priority initiatives, deliverables or projects for each major programme area, to facilitate enhanced alignment with the performance reporting process. 3. ATEED should continue to embed its SOI key performance indicator framework within the organisation, with a view to establishing numeric targets for, KPI1, KPI3 and KPI5 through the development of the 10-year Budget 2021-31. 4. ATEED should complete a board performance review in the next 12 months. Such a review was postponed for 2019. This review should be undertaken in line with the board performance review process adopted by the council. These points, in addition to the broader CCO expectations, will be incorporated (as appropriate) into our draft Statement of Intent 2020-23 which will be presented to the Board at the February meeting for delivery to Council by 1 March 2020.
