Russel & Aitken Papers finding aid (3): Maps & Plans

The finding aid for the Russel & Aitken Papers has been divided into 63 parts. This part contains a list of the maps and plans held by the firm of Russel & Aitken.

Maps & plans The plans held by Russel & Aitken were either related to work on behalf of clients (such as property transactions, sequestrations and boundary disputes) or were related to the property and mineral rights and interests of members of the Aitken and Russel families. Most of these were separated from the legal papers and while it is possible to make connections to some surviving papers, these maps and plans have been retained in a separate series.

Note on custodial history and arrangement The maps and plans consist of two separate deposits. Maps and plans with the reference code A1802 were originally deposited in the National Library of in the 1970s and were given the references NLS Deposits 240 and 250, and were subsequently transferred to Falkirk Council Archives in August 2004. Maps and plans with the reference code A1803 were deposited by Russel & Aitken in Falkirk Council Archives between 1999 and 2005. The maps and plans transferred from the National Library of Scotland had been grouped into Transport, Architectural, Estate and Mineral plans and this arrangement has been retained, and four further groups added for municipal works, gas manufacture designs, ordnance survey maps and miscellaneous maps and plans.
