Winter Workshop Classes for Grades 1 - 8

An intensive workshop designed to help students prepare for examinations. To take part students should have a working knowledge of the syllabus and chosen dances.

The Royal Academy of Dance Victorian Tasmanian Regional Advisory Panel is delighted to present RAD Syllabus classes for Grade Students (male and female). Classes will be led by RAD examiners and tutors with every class accompanied by a pianist. Places are limited and will fill fast so make sure to book early to ensure a place. Scholarships and encouragement awards will be presented during the last class of the level’s course. Students must have attended class every day to be eligible.

Optional extras include The Nutcracker Repertoire Workshops on Thursday and Boys Only classes on Friday.

• Entries close 10 June or when classes have reached 25 students per class. • Students must not travel to or from the venue wearing only dance clothes - please ensure students are aware of this. • Each student will need to have a name tag (supplied by the RAD) on their at all times. • Unless otherwise directed by the parent/guardian it is accepted that photographs taken during this course may be used for RAD promotional/reporting purposes. • Course fees are non-refundable unless a written request is made and accompanied by a medical certificate. The Panel reserves the right to change the mix of classes depending on the entries received at the closing date.

There will be ONE opportunity per class for family and friends to view a class in progress. If you would like to watch, you will need to confirm the day and time with your teacher once confirmations have been sent out. The viewing class gives students an opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and technique whilst developing their sense of performance with a supportive audience. Teachers may also view these classes.

The viewing classes will be held in the performance studio, which has tiered seating. Entry is by the glass foyer at footpath level on St Kilda Rd. The entry fee is a gold coin donation. Please do not bring small children who cannot sit quietly for approximately 1.5 hours. RAD merchandise (water bottles, towels, bags, hair accessories) will be on sale all week.

AWARDS: All students will be presented with a certificate for having successfully completed the course. A scholarship, encouragement awards and honorable mentions will be awarded in each class (the faculty for the class will make the scholarship decisions and their decisions are final, no discussions will be entered into). These awards must be used within the next two calendar years i.e. 2019 – 20, and will be awarded as follows:

Scholarship: The most outstanding student, showing technical skill, musicality and artistry. This is funded by the RAD VIC TAS Panel and entitles the recipient to free enrolment in a Royal Academy of Dance Victorian Tasmanian Panel course – one to be awarded in each class.

Encouragement Awards: Students who have listened to and applied corrections consistently and shown the ability to benefit from the experience. This will give the recipient a discount of 25% on a Royal Academy of Dance Victorian Tasmanian Panel course. A maximum of two will be awarded in each class.

Honorable Mentions: Students who have listened, applied corrections and deserve encouragement. The student will receive a certificate. A maximum of 4 will be awarded in each class. Why come to the Winter Workshop?

Jane Inglis-Keen Jane Inglis-Keen has been a dance teacher specialising in Classical since 1997. Jane trained at the Victorian College of Arts and School graduating with a Diploma of Dance She received a scholarship to the Princess Grace Ballet School in Monaco where she was coached by Marika Besobrasova. She danced with the Australian Ballet Dancers Company then joined The Australian under Maina Gielgud performing roles including ‘Peasant Pas’ from Giselle and ‘Cupid’ from Don Quixote. After her dancing career, she obtained an Advanced Diploma of Dance Teaching (High Distinction) from the Australian Ballet School under the directorship of Gaileen Stock. Jane has been a Registered RAD teacher for 20 years + and she travels extensively as an Examiner and Teacher for the Royal Academy of Dance. She has taught at many dance schools in Melbourne, including the Australian Ballet School. She loves to coach dedicated young dancers and has a firm philosophy for her teaching which includes passing on her love and joy for dance and to encourage the pursuit of excellence. Jane is a current member of IADMS and Australian and holds a Fitness Instructor Certificate with a special focus in the Pilates method.

Julie-Anne Kerr RAD RTS and RAD Examiner

Julie-Anne is a registered teacher of The Royal Academy of Dance and has enjoyed teaching and inspiring young dancers for over 35 years. She taught for over 30 years with Tanya Pearson and from 2011 – 2013 Julie-Anne was Co Owner and Co Director of the TPCCA. She is now a Freelance Teacher in Sydney and has worked at many prestigious schools preparing students for RAD Exams and Holiday Workshops. Julie-Anne has also enjoyed her time as a volunteer on the NSW Advisory Panel and has been Vice Chairperson for the past 5 years. She has recently taken on mentoring young teachers through the CBTS course. She has travelled with students to compete at the Genee International Ballet Competition, AHA Awards, Youth America Grand Prix and the . Julie-Anne is passionate in her work and has an excellent reputation as a teacher.

Susan Sargison RAD Examiner Dip ABS, ARAD, RTS RAD Susan Sargison holds a Diploma of Dance from the Australian Ballet School having danced with both the Australian Ballet Company and the Dancers Company under the direction of Dame Peggy Van Praggh. Her professional stage appearances included productions of Coppelia, Giselle, Carmen, Three Musketeer’s, Robert Rays Poems and City Dances. Susan has had an extensive performing career in both classical ballet and musical theatre spanning over fifteen years which has taken her to Asia, and the United Kingdom. For over twenty years Susan has been teaching and operating a ballet school in Melbourne from Primary to Vocational Level. She has also been choreographing and teaching classical ballet at tertiary level and adjudicating at Eisteddfods throughout Australia. Ms Sargison has had a long association with the Royal Academy of Dance being a Panel Member for the VIC TAS Panel, Mentor on the RAD CBTS program and recently appointed to the Board of RAD Examiners. Ms. Sargison continues to be a passionate teacher in her role as the Associate Artistic Director of the National Theatre Ballet School.
