Royal Academy of Dance Pre-Primary in Dance Class Award All Shore Dance Pre-Primary students have the opportunity to enter in a Royal Academy of Dance Pre-Primary Class Award. This is where the students perform their class work in front of an examiner and receive a certificate and a medal. The class awards are a lot of fun and a great experience for the children. It also gives them something to work towards during the year. While this is not compulsory, we do highly recommend them for all students! Please note that students must be at least 5 years old to sit the Pre-Primary class award. What happens during a class award? Students will enter the Shore Dance studio with their teacher and up to 7 other Pre-Primary students. Their teacher will then conduct their Pre-Primary ballet class as normal and the students will perform the exercises to an examiner who will assess their performance. Student do not pass or fail at this level. When and where will they be held? They will be held in our Shore Dance studios where the students have class every week. They could be any date between the 27th of July and 31st of August (scheduled by Royal Academy of Dance). Please note that exams are often scheduled on week days, and may require students to be taken out of school for a few hours on the day of their exam. What will students receive who participate in a class award? Each student will receive an assessment report, a certificate, and a medal. How much are the fees? The RAD class award fee is $54.00 (which includes a $5.00 administration fee to help towards the cost of running the exams). Please note that this fee is non-refundable (see further details on entry form) What preparation is required for the class award? It is important that all students entering in the class award attend ballet class every week (unless they are sick). Each group will have one extra class in the second week of the school holidays (July 18th – 22nd) so that the students can practice dancing in the groups that they will perform in on the day of the class award. The schedule for these holiday classes will be finalised once exam entries are in. This class will be compulsory so if you are planning on going away in the July school holidays, please schedule this for the first week so they will be available to attend their special class. The students will also have a “mock class award” closer to the time, to practice the exact procedure of the day. The total cost for the extra class and the mock class award will be $15.00 per student. What are the uniform requirements? All students participating in the class award must wear the following uniform items (all available from the Shore Dance shop). • Regulation lilac Chloe leotard • Regulation lilac RAD Wrap Skirt • Leather ballet shoes (full sole) • Pink ballet socks (ballet tights are not allowed for the exam day) • Hair in a classical ballet bun (requires hair tie, nylon bun net (matching hair colour), and hair pins) – please note teachers will be available on the exam day to help with buns It is also very important that all students come to class with their hair pulled back off their face, preferably into a ballet bun (we have bun nets and bobboy pins available to buy at our shop, and there is also a video tutorial on our website (uniform page) to demonstrate how to do a classical ballet bun). When are the fees and entry form due? Entry forms and class award fees must be submitted and paid by the 7th of May. Entry forms may be submitted electronically by completeing the online entry form on our website www.shoredance.co.nz. Please note, if you do not return your entry form or pay the fee by the correct date, your child will not be entered in the exam. No late entries can be accepted.
