They are doing this by identifying 3 locations on a map of the United States and constructing the perpendicular bisectors to each side of the triangle that is formed by the 3 locations. They will conclude by writing a story of why this point is of significance to the locations they chose. Students in level 1 Algebra 2 just completed a project that tasks them with maximizing profits or minimizing costs based upon a set amount of restrictions that a business would encounter. Students create the entire hypothetical scenario, establish inequality-based restrictions on the variables as it pertains to the business and will choose either maximizing profits/salary or minimizing costs. ENGLISH Chrissa Kuntz reports that her ninth-grade students are writing essays/poems/stories for FIVE writing contests this month and one next month! “Let’s hope they win $ or gain notoriety!” WORLD LANGUAGE The World Language Department is pleased to announce that the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) has awarded four Penncrest students scholarships for summer study abroad. She is a recent graduate of West Chester University, graduating Magna Cum Laude with degrees in History and Special Education. A life-long learner and school enthusiast, Ms. Skinner is thrilled to begin her teacher career at the incredible, Penncrest High School. The start of the school year has been busy and exciting, but Ms. Skinner has loved having the opportunity to get to know students during the school day, as well as at events like the Marching Band Festival, Homecoming Dance and Student Leadership retreat! Outside of the school setting Ms. Skinner is passionate about music, having participated in marching band, choral and the performing arts since a young age. Additionally, she loves spending time outdoors hiking and camping, serves on the music team at Providence Church, is active in weightlifting and the Crossfit community and most of all enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Black raspberry ice cream, history channel documentaries and board games are a few of her favorite things! A West Chester gal through and through, on weekends you can find her on her favorite park bench in Everhart Park with a cup of coffee and a good book. Ms. Skinner is so grateful to be a part of the Rose Tree Media family and looks forward to continuing to foster community with faculty, staff, and most importantly, students at Penncrest High School. Principal’s Report: Mr. Ralph Harrison: Mr. Harrison was not present however the following items were passed on for the meeting: -He will be meeting with counselors to discuss the possibility of summer availability. Two games will be played at Penncrest High School and one at Interboro High School. They are also preparing for “Ridley Winter Games” where they play games/sports with many other districts. Superintendent’s Advisory Board (SAB) Report: Sue Scanlon and Jenny Dresden attended the most recent SAB Meeting and the following items were noted: -Graduation is now and will remain on a Friday at Neumann College. Same number of tickets (5) will be distributed to each family. -Teacher contract negotiations are complete and all items are settled. All district contracts with the various unions are expiring at the same time and the district wants to adjust this so that the contracts will expire at the end of different years. They do not want to negotiate contracts with everyone at the same time. • Teacher contract details and salaries are available on line. • Teacher prep time more strictly defined in new contract. • Changed period of time for the transfer of teachers (3 years, now 1 year). • Teacher medical insurance went from a high deductible HSA (Health Spending Account) to a high deductible HRA (Health Reimbursement Account). -Mr. Wigo said there is a possibility that the Vice Principal job at Springton Lake Middle School will be posted again. They are looking for an interim vice principal from among the current staff. -Watch for information regarding elementary school renovations versus a new elementary school and school renovations project, within the next few weeks. The committee is preparing a presentation for the school board and the public. -The Board took a vote to not take the extra ½% tax increase (exception). The budget will be balanced. -Number of days on school calendar remains the same. - The new "Future Ready Index" (a PA assessment) will measure college/job/trade readiness for students at all levels. -Question from a parent regarding Chromebooks: asked whether the district could provide cases with the Chromebooks to help protect them, or at a minimum, to offer the purchase of decent cases at a discount to families. The district currently does not provide any cases. Another parent questioned why the district wouldn’t protect their investment of the Chromebooks by purchasing the cases, as the District owns them, not the families, so the district should provide the cases.

It is now time for students who will attend Penncrest next year to choose their courses for 2020-2021. The Guide has been designed to assist students in this process. We urge all students to refer to the Guide when selecting their courses and to consult with their counselors, teachers, and families. Our high school program permits a variety of course choices. We cannot overstate the importance of students’ taking the time to choose their courses carefully and choose course alternates with care. • At a Meeting at Lima, June 20, 1952, Dr. Carl Leech Proposed a Seven District Jointure As Recommended in the Survey Made by the Pennsylvania Economy League
At a meeting at Lima, June 20, 1952, Dr. Carl Leech proposed a seven district jointure as recommended in the survey made by the Pennsylvania Economy League. The purpose of the jointure was to provide a unified administration to carry out common objectives and policies in the school program, kindergarten through twelfth grade. On July 15, 1952, Dr. Leech set forth plans for the jointure to include Media, Chester Heights, Bethel, Concord, Edgmont, Middletown, and Upper Providence. Members of the Jointure Committee were to be Leedom Tuckerman, Media; William Willits, Concord; George W. Feldman, Bethel; Harold Hormann, Edgmont; Robert F. Engle, Middletown; John Burkland, Upper Providence; Mrs. Oleta Ramage, Supervising Principal, Concord; Dr. Fred Tanger, Superintendent, Media; J. Earl Mast, Supervising Principal, Middletown; and Donald Snively, Supervising Principal, Upper Providence. At this July meeting, Dr. Leech called attention to a chart which indicated that the population of the area according to the 1950 census was 21,934: 1,960 were of elementary school age, 672 of junior high school age, and 484 of senior high school age. The projected school figures for 1956 were 1,030 junior high pupils and 763 senior high pupils. As the seven‐district committee studied the cost of a new high school, lack of accord among the members of the committee became increasingly apparent, and Upper Providence went on record as favoring a jointure with Middletown even if the other five districts failed to reach an agreement. On April 21, 1953, at Media High School, the master agreement involving 2,600 pupils in seven districts was signed.

  • Community Facilities & Services
Chapter 18 Community Facilities & Services Introduction & Purpose Community facilities are the public and quasi-public properties that accommodate municipal operations or provide some service to the public that contributes to the functioning of the Township or to the quality of life generally. Examples include the Township Building and the services provided directly by the municipality, schools, emergency services (police and fire protection, ambulance service), parks and other recreational facilities, libraries, and hospitals. The original purpose of township government was to build and maintain roads. While this remains a significant responsibility, many other duties are now included. Increasingly, local governments are finding that there are able to provide municipal services more efficiently by joining with surrounding communities in multi-municipal associations. This chapter is organized by type of service, with special notice of ownership and access where applicable. Figure 18.1 shows the locations of the described facilities. Township Office and Administration The Upper Providence Township Building is located along Providence Road just north of the Media Borough line and contains the Township administrative offices, the Police Department, the offices of the Township Sewer Authority, and meeting space for the various municipal agencies. Pennsylvania Act 62 of 1972 (the “Home Rule Act”) enabled municipalities to develop systems of local government apart from the system of first- and second-class townships, boroughs, and cities that was in effect in most of the state. In 1974, Township residents approved a proposal to form a Government Study Commission for the purpose of examining local governance and considering if some other form should be considered.
