Within a given type of product, the cost-weight ratio is generally constant. Purpose

A problem which always exists when a new product is brought out is the price of the unit. Obviously it is ofton not practical to price an item at it8 actual cost plus a reaeonable profit. The first units always cost more to produce, and once quantity production end manufactur- ing experience has beon achieved, production costa will be eubstantially lower. One criteria for aetting the price of a unit is ita weight. Obviously the cost-weight ratio depends upon many variables, such as the relative complexity of the product, quantities manufactured, portability requira- ments, etc. Thie mrvey wae conducted to accumulate data on various types of manufactured products, so ae to sUow comparieons to be made.

Contents Itoms covered in this report are Electric Motore (l/4 to 1s HP), Air Cooled Motor Oenerator Sete (500 to 3500 watts), Outboard Motors, Passenger Cars, Power Saws, Power Lawn Mowers, Refrigerators, Vacuum Cleanors, Washer-Dryer Combinations, Room Air Conditioners, Dishwashers, Washing Machines, Clothes Dryers and Gas Rangea.
