Established 1990 PLANT LIST 2016 European mail order website www.crug-farm.co.uk CRÛG FARM PLANTS • 2016 Welcome to our 2016 list hope we can tempt you with plenty of our old favourites as well as some exciting new plants that we have searched out on our travels. There has been little chance of us standing still with what has been going on here in 2015. The year started well with the birth of our sixth grandchild. January into February had Sue and I in Colombia for our first winter/early spring expedition. It was exhilarating, we were able to travel much further afield than we had previously, as the mountainous areas become safer to travel. We are looking forward to working ever closer with the Colombian institutes, such as the Medellin Botanic Gardens whom we met up with. Consequently we were absent from the RHS February Show at Vincent Square. We are finding it increasingly expensive participating in the London shows, while re-branding the RHS February Show as a potato event hardly encourages our type of customer base to visit. A long standing speaking engagement and a last minute change of date, meant that we missed going to Fota near Cork last spring, no such problem this coming year. We were pleasantly surprised at the level of interest at the Trgrehan Garden Rare Plant Fair, in Cornwall. Hopefully this will become an annual event for us, as well as the Cornwall Garden Society show in April. Poor Sue went through the wars having to have a rush hysterectomy in June, after some timely results revealed future risks. -

We studied epidermal protuberances that have been found on the L. canum to identify the constituents of the glandular surfaces of aerial organs of most terrestrial plants, including trichomes and investigate their possible function in plant angiosperms, gymnosperms, and bryophytes.[1] Glandular defense. trichomes of plants often produce copious secondary metab- Numerous gray or yellowish trichomes, both glandular olites with a wide range of structures and biological proper- and nonglandular, cover the buds, flowers, and especially the ties, including alkaloids, phenolics, and terpenoids.[2, 3] These leaves of L. canum (Figure 1A and B). This paper presents a review of scientific studies analyzing the biological properties of different species of Cistus sp. Materials and methods. Forty papers that discuss the current research of Cistus sp. as phytotherapeutic agent were used for this discussion. Literature analysis. The results of scientific research indicate that extracts from various species of Cistus sp. exhibit antioxidant, antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, cytotoxic and anticancer properties. These properties give rise to the pos- sibility of using Cistus sp. as a therapeutic agent supporting many therapies. Shrub, summer-deciduous, not spinescent, branching open with long shoot-short shoot organization, 150–300 cm tall; shoots with leaves crowded on short shoots, densely puberulent and with stalked glandular hairs, aromatic. Stems: young stems green and hairy aging dark reddish orange and glabrescent, nodal spines absent; young bark brown, old periderm falling in plates exposing brown stem. Leaves: helically alternate, shallowly palmately 3(5)-lobed, petiolate, with stipules; stipules 2, attached entire length at base of petiole, 1.7–4.2 mm long, pale green to greenish but translucent or whitish and fringed on outer margin, the fringe narrowly tapered and mostly to 2.5(−4) mm long increasing upward, with stalked glandular hairs at base, on margin, and at tip, fine-hairy; petiole 5–25 mm long, pubescent to short-villous and densely stalked-glandular; blade roundish (oblate) or ± pentagonal in outline, 8–32(–40) × 8–36 mm, cordate to slightly truncate at base, lobes rounded to obtuse, regularly to ± irregularly dentate on margins with cuts between teeth of varying depths, palmately veined with 3(5) principal veins at base and pinnately veined in lobes, the principal veins sunken on upper surface and conspicuously raised on lower surface, puberulent and densely stalked-glandular, upper surface cobblestonelike, dark green, each glandular hair formed on a domed sector of the blade, lower surface lighter green.
