Tips & Tricks and Discounts Introduction The new Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Diagon Alley™ puts you in the middle of your favorite Harry Potter movie or book. From the main entrance from London to the Butterbeer to Hogwart’s Express, and Escape from Gringotts, it is an amazing new place with magic around every corner. One of the best things about the new Diagon Ally park is that the show never seems to end. Everywhere you look, there's some moving animatronics character, live character shows and performances, a ride, scenes from the books, and so on. This includes both inside the retail locations and attractions, but also out in the "streets." You're continually entertained and made to feel like you've truly entered the world of Harry Potter. In this book, we’ll explore Diagon Alley™, all of the shops, dining, rides, and attractions. You’ll have a wand selected for you, cast a few spells with it, drink some Butterbeer, and escape from Gringotts Bank; the most secure place in the world. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Diagon Alley™ is located at ’s Universal Studios park between the San Francisco area and Fear Factor Live! When you walk into Diagon Alley™ through a secret entrance in a brick wall, you are immediately immersed into the world of Harry Potter. You will not see any of the attractions outside this area or even hotels around Orlando. Once you walk through the wall, you are fully immersed in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. AT T R A CT I O N S

Hogwarts Express Start off your Wizarding World of Harry Potter experience right. Grab a ride aboard the Hogwarts Express! To do this, start at Universal’s Islands of Adventure and make your way to the Lost Continent. Inside the Lost Continent, just before you go into the Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Hogsmeade, you’ll find the gates to the Hogwarts Express train station. You must have a 2 park pass to enjoy this attraction, so please keep that in mind when planning your visit to the Wizarding World! To get your tickets, visit WizardingWorldPark.com

Once you enter the station, you will wind around next to and underneath the Challenge roller coaster. Once inside the station building, you may catch your first glimpse of the Hogwarts Express. It’s absolutely magical! Smoke billows out from the smokestack and wheels as the engine rolls into the station. A conductor will guide you to your car and cabin where you will join your friends and family for an amazing ride from Hogwarts to London! While on your journey, be sure to watch out the window and the door to the hallway! You never know what you may see on the trip!

TIP: Be sure to ride the Hogwarts Express in both directions, as the show is very different, each way!

After a short ride, you’ll arrive at King’s Cross Station in London.

King’s Cross Station For anyone that has been to London, King’s Cross Station will amaze you! It’s like you’re actually at the station in London!….only cleaner. :) As you make your way out of the station, you’ll see luggage strewn all over the place, a shop for departing guests to grab a quick drink or snack, and maybe even a few hidden gems taken directly from the Harry Potter movies!

Near the exit of the station, you’ll encounter local artists playing music to entertain travelers before they hit the streets of London. When exiting, you miss many of the attractions of King’s Cross Station. Be sure to come back and ride the Hogwarts Express back to Hogsmeade to get the full experience, including running through the brick wall at Platform 9-3/4! TIP: Watch for a special billboard advertisement on the wall as you make your way through King Cross Station to board Hogwarts Express back to Hogsmeade.

London As you exit King Cross Station, you will find yourself in the middle of London with a view of The Simpsons ride. As you wonder the London streets, you may run into the Knight Bus with an opportunity to talk to the shrunken head.

Also, if you look closely, you will see Harry’s Uncle’s place at 12 Grimmauld Place. Look closely at the window above the door and you may catch a glimpse of the house , Kreacher! Be sure to take a moment to go out into the main area of Universal Studios to see the full panoramic view of the London facade!

TIP: There’s a classic London phone booth on the street. Go in and dial “magic” for a special message. Diagon Alley™ It’s easy to miss the entrance to Diagon Alley™ from the London streets. You will often find a Universal team member guiding the way. You’re looking for a brick wall with a couple of openings on either side, right next to the gates for the underground train station.

As you walk through the openings on either side, you round a corner and see a brick wall that has separated, as though by magic! You can even still hear the bricks moving, if you listen closely! Through the opening of the brick wall, you finally see what you’ve been waiting for; Diagon Alley™!

Immediately in front of you, you will see the Ukrainian Ironbelly dragon perched atop Gringott’s Bank. You may even catch it breathing fire! As you look around, you may see Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes or the Leaky Cauldron. Immediately visible is also the Gregorovitch Wand Store, however, you may wish to wait for Ollivanders, as it’s much more detailed and has the wand selection show for you to have your wand pick you.

Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes Truly one of the most amazing pieces of theming in Diagon Alley™ is the exterior of Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes. This store is immediately to your right as you enter Diagon Alley™ and grabs your attention with a giant man taking off his top hat and a toilet bowl spell in the window.

Inside the store, you will see all manner of activities among the items in the store, including a trapeze act and the naming ceremony for Pygmy Puffs. You will quickly get swept up in all the happenings and items for sale!

Fred and George Weasleys’ colourful shop offers a cornucopia of magical jokes, tricks and toys including Pygmy Puffs, U-No-Poo, Skiving Snackboxes, and more. TIP: The store is quite small and I’ve found that it’s quite fun to find a quiet, out-of- the-way corner to just watch the goings-on.

TIP: Purchase your own Pygmy Puff and enjoy an extra magical experience when you get to name and adopt your new friend. Quality Quidditch Supplies Right next to Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes (it’s actually closer to the entrance to Diagon Alley™, but not as attention-grabbing), is Quality Quidditch™ Supplies. Here, you may purchase your Quaffle balls, Quidditch™ , Quidditch™ apparel and team souvenirs.

Ollivanders™ Wand Shop Right in the heart of Diagon Alley™, you will find Ollivanders™ Wand Shop; Makers of Fine Wands since 382 BC. Here, you can buy your most important wizard supply: your wand.

You may enter Ollivanders™ in a couple ways. You can enter directly into the store and begin your search for your wand. There is a balcony above you with wand covered walls and shelves of wands to your right as you enter. It’s an amazing piece of artwork!

TIP: In the back left of the store, you can find a chart that gives you dates for different wands (for example, the ash wand is from Feb. 18 - Mar. 17 - , ’s first wand). You may wish to use this chart to pick the right wand for you based on your birthday, anniversary, first time you came to Diagon Alley™, or even your favorite Harry Potter character’s birthday.

The best way to enter Ollivanders™ is to go through the show entrance. There may or may not be a queue line to enter this location, but there will always be a team member nearby to direct you to the proper place; either in line or into the Ollivanders™ show entrance.

As you enter the show entrance, you’re see towering walls of crooked shelves filled with wands. It’s really impressive! After being greeted by an Ollivanders™ team member, you will be taken to the wand selection room. The towering walls of wands continue all the way to the room and even get more and more narrow as you progress to the room!

TIP: As you enter the show entrance, be sure to look over your left shoulder to see a magical cleaning up part of Ollivanders™. After being brought into the wand selection room, you will see a wizard toiling away, barely noticing the throngs of new wizards entering the room. A staircase leads to a balcony with wands covering all the walls. The wizard selects a wizard or two for whom he will go through the ceremony of having the wand select the wizard. This involves trying spells with a few wands, watching as the spells go awry, and then ultimately finding the right wand for the wizard.

In addition to the standard wands, you can now purchase an Interactive Wand and cast spells to create amazing magical experiences throughout Diagon Alley™™ and Hogsmeade™.

TIP: If you are a regular guest and are selected more than once, you can swap your old wand out for the new one, for free!

Wands by Gregorovitch In addition to Ollivanders, as mentioned above, you can purchase wands from Wands by Gregorovitch. This shop is located near the front entrance to Diagon Alley™. As you enter Diagon Alley™, take the alleyway to the right and Gregorovitch’s will be on your left. This is a great place to quickly pick up a wand without having to wait in the show line or fight the crowds in Ollivanders. Interactive Wand Spell Locations Throughout Diagon Alley™, you will find 16 interactive wand spell locations. 11 in the greater Diagon Alley™ area and 5 in Knockturn Alley.

The interactive spells are marked with a brass medallion embedded in the ground.

Below, you can find the locations, spells, and the effects produced.

Diagon Alley Locations 1. Pilliwinkle’s Playthings (Tarantallegra): The dancing feet spell causes trolls to dance in Pilliwinkle’s window. 2. Flimflams Lanterns (Incendio): This spell lights the lanterns at Flimflams Lanterns. 3. Umbrella Sign (Metelojinx): Make it rain! 4. Magical Menagerie (Silencio): Causes a creature to stop chirping. 5. Wiseacres Wizarding Equipment (Dark Detectors): This one’s really kind of boring. Wave your wand a bit and eyes open up in the window. Maybe. 6. Wiseacres Wizarding Equipment (Specialis Revelio): This one is pretty cool. It reveals an archer on a star map. He fires an arrow and his dog retrieves it. 7. Scribbulus (Wingardium Leviosa): Levitates a quill above a parchment. 8. Bowman E. Wright Blacksmith (Reparo): Repairs a suit of armor. 9. Bowman E. Wright Blacksmith (Locomotor Bellows): Works a bellows to stock the blacksmith’s fire. 10. Mermaid Fountain (Aquamenti): Creates a stream of water from the fountain. The fun part? Where is the water going to hit?? 11. Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes (Descendo): Flushes a plunger down a toilet!

Knockturn Alley Locations 1. Chimney Sweep Elf Sign (Locomotor Chimney Sweep): This one may be a bit tough to spot. You have to look up! You’re looking for a red sign in the shape of a chimney. The spell causes a little chimney sweep to climb the chimney. 2. Dystal Phaelanges (Moving Skeleton): One of the most popular spells in the new park. Your body motions will be mirrored by the skeleton in Phaelanges’ window. 3. Noggin and Bonce (Mimblewimble): Silences the talking heads in the window 4. Tallow and Hemp Toxic Tapers (Incendio): Has various effects on the bird in the cage. 5. Trackleshanks Locksmith (Alohomora): This one might give you a scare! A gust of wind is the effect.

TIP: There are some “hidden” spell locations! Be sure to ask around to see if you can find some of them. I’ll give you your first one, it’s at Scribbulus in the second window.

Madam Malkin’s Robes for all Occasions If you’re looking for that special Ravenclaw or Slytherin robe, Madam Malkin’s is the place for you. The costumes in this store are simply amazing! Options include Hogwarts school uniforms, ties, scarves, sweaters and cardigans, as well as other apparel and jewelry fashion items. Of course, these items will feature all four school houses of Gryffindor™, Ravenclaw™, Hufflepuff™ and Slytherin™. You will also find wizard hats at this location.

TIP: Oftentimes, you will also find team members dressed as students or wandering the store looking for their own wizard supplies. Scribbulus This is a very small, but cool store right next to Wiseacre’s Wizarding Equipment. They have journals, quills, ink, and cool metal stamps for your parchment paper or journals.

Shutterbutton’s Photography Studio Shutterbutton’s offers guests a unique opportunity to create a moving portrait portraying various experiences from their time in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter™.

Shutter button’s has a still photo experience and a movie experience. The still photo experience costs $24.95 and the movie experience costs $69.95. You will receive a CD and download link from your movie experience visit to Shutterbutton’s.

Gringotts Money Exchange After you pass the show stage, you will find Gringotts Money Exchange. Many guests miss going into this attraction, thinking it’s nothing but a shop and of no interest. Nothing could be further from the truth! This is one of the true hidden gems in Diagon Alley™.

Here, you can exchange your money for Gringotts Bank Notes. These amount to commemorative gift certificates that you can spend in Diagon Alley™ or Hogsmeade. The Money Exchange also has a few souvenirs such as Gringotts wallets and coin purses.

The best part, you can interact with the that mans the Gringotts Money Exchange! It’s a fantastic experience, especially for kids. Don’t miss this one of a kind attraction!

Wiseacre’s Wizarding Equipment At Wiseacre’s Wizarding Equipment, guests will find a variety of wizarding wares and supplies including crystal balls, telescopes, binoculars, armillary spheres, compasses, magnifying glasses and hourglasses.

TIP: Be sure to ask a team member about the hidden “Easter eggs” in this store! The upper level houses many of the components from the Jaws ride that used to occupy this space, made into telescopes and various other wizard items!

Magical Menagerie Magical Menagerie may be found just to the left of the Gringotts Bank. Here, you can find a variety of plush toys including Crookshanks™, Fang, Buckbeak™, Fluffy and Scabbers™. Also available are Cornish pixies, ferrets, Pygmy Puffs, and an assortment of owls, including Pigwidgeon and Hedwig™.”

TIP: Be on the lookout for a parseltongue snake in a cage inside the Magical Menagerie! You can see him from inside the shop or outside in the alley. Listen closely and you will here him hiss out some parseltongue! Do you understand it?

Escape from Gringotts The Escape from Gringotts ride is immediately visible as soon as you enter Diagon Alley™. How could you miss the fire breathing dragon perched atop Gringotts Bank? Just below that dragon, you will find the entrance to the ride, itself. TIP: No bags are allowed on the Escape from Gringotts ride. You must stow all bags and loose items in the lockers provided just to the right of the ride entrance.

TIP: Enter the lockers through Wiseacre’s Wizarding Equipment when crowds are high.

As you enter Gringotts Bank, you will enter the GIANT marble and stone lobby with hard at work behind their desks. These goblins are magnificent! The detail is unreal! Careful not to disturb them. They may have a harsh word or two for you!

Once through the lobby, you will progress through the goblins offices, finally entering an office and meeting up with a Weasley. After a brief talk, you will be taken to the bowels of the bank to board your ride vehicle.

Universal calls the ride a “multi-dimensional 3D ride.” It’s very similar to The Mummy, so if you have difficulty with that ride, this one may not be for you. Of course, this ride has a Harry Potter with visits from Ron, Hermione, and Harry…..and some trolls and goblins for good measure. Oh, and you may just run into Voldemort and Bellatrix along the way! This is the only real “ride” in the new Diagon Alley™ area, so it’s often a very long wait. To save some time, you may want to try the single rider line or take advantage of Early Park Admission if you’re staying at a UOR hotel.

Knockturn Alley Knockturn Alley is a unique experience within Diagon Alley™. As many will know from the Harry Potter movies, this is a spooky, dangerous area within Diagon Alley™. As you walk down the tunnel to Knockturn Alley, light begins to dim until you’re shrouded in near complete darkness. You will find special interactive spells for your wands in Knockturn Alley, as well as Borgin and Burkes.

TIP: Be sure to watch for a window full of talking shrunken heads and the magical tattoo parlor, Markus Scarrs

Borgin and Burkes As I mentioned, above, you may access the Borgin and Burkes store from inside Knockturn Alley.

Here, you will find Dark Arts objects, including Eater™ masks, skulls, and costume replicas. The shop also sells apparel, accessories, jewelry, collectibles, and gifts.

TIP: Be sure to listen for the bird inside the wardrobe closet and the quidditch balls trapped in a box.

Carkitt Market Show Stage As you wind your way around to the right as you enter Diagon Alley™, you will find a show stage to your right. It may be empty or you may encounter one of the two shows getting ready to start.

You may see the singing witch, Celestina Warlock and the Banshees in concert. A truly great performance! The second show is the Tale of the Three Brothers told as a puppet show. Also, quite good! There’s rarely a crowd for either show, so no need to get there early. There’s always a great spot available. DINING

Leaky Cauldron The Leaky Cauldron is Diagon Alley™’s only sit-down restaurant and transports you directly to the of the same name in Diagon Alley™. Here, you can enjoy traditional British food including cottage pie, fish and chips, and bangers and mash. You can also order Butterbeer, Pumpkin juice, Wizarding World exclusive beers, and other drinks from the Wizarding World.

As you walk to your seat, be sure to take a look at the giant “leaky cauldron” in the fireplace. It’s quite a sight!

Florean also offers several other unique flavors of ice cream, including Earl Grey Lavender Tea, Salted Caramel, and Chili Chocolate to name a few. The ice cream shop is very colorful and offers and offers an indoor queue line making it a great place to cool off in the summer, as well as get a cool treat!

Florean does offer Continental breakfast items in the morning, if you’d like something quick, so you can get back to exploring Diagon Alley™.

Cuisine: Scoop and soft-serve ice-creams, breakfast items, and drinks Service Type: Quick Service Hours: From park open to one hour before park closing Fountain of Fair Fortune The Fountain of Fair Fortune offers various Wizarding World drinks, including Butterbeer, Pumpkin Juice, Gilly Water, and is one of the best places to get the Diagon Alley™ exclusive beers.

Again, the Fountain of Fair Fortune has an indoor queue line to cool you off before enjoying a cool beverage! Even if you don’t plan to buy a drink here, it’s worth taking a peek inside to see the large kegs and mirrors!

The two Diagon Alley™ exclusive beers are the Wizard’s Brew and the Dragon Scale. Each cost $7.75 (currently). The Wizard’s Brew is a dark, sweet porter, while the Dragon Scale is lighter amber beer. Both are quite good and neither is a very hoppy beer.

Eternelle’s Elixir of Refreshment Just down from Gringotts Bank on your way to the show stage and Gringotts Money Exchange, you will see a big gazebo with a strange looking drink dispenser on the bar. This is where you can buy all the for your Gilly Water. Note: Gilly Water is plain bottled water ($3.99 each).

The potions come in various “flavors” that produce different results for the discerning wizard consumer. The potions include Fire Protection (light red orange), Babbling Beverage (red), Draught of Peace (blue), and Elixir to Enduce Euphoria (green). Each costs an additional $3.99 and comes in a great souvenir vial you can take home with you!

Potion flavors: • Fire Protection Potion: A cool watermelon flavored potion. • Babbling Beverage: A tropical fruit punch style potion. • Draught of Peace: As with most blue colored drinks, this potion produces a blueberry/raspberry flavor. • Elixir to Enduce Euphoria: Pineapple and green apple flavors stand out in this potion.

TIP: Bring your own bottled water from your resort/home and save on that nearly $4 price tag for a simple bottled water!

The Hopping Pot In the Carkitt Market area of Diagon Alley™ (just to your right as you enter Diagon Alley™), you will see several picnic tables in the courtyard in front of The Hopping Pot. Here, you can buy the various forms of Butterbeer (frozen, cold, and hot) and other Wizarding World beverages, including the two exclusive Diagon Alley™ beers.

Taxi Hut The Taxi Hut can be found out in the London street-scape. It’s a quick service food stand that has hot dogs, baked (jacketed) potatoes, shepherd’s pie, and various beverages.

TIPS AND TRICKS! • Use the single rider line at Escape from Gringotts. This can significantly reduce the wait time for this ride. • You don’t have to wait in that line if you just want to buy a wand! I’ve been shocked at the number of people that think you must wait in line to buy a wand. You can go to any of a couple wand kiosks that all have the same wands. Also, as you enter Diagon Alley™, to your right, is a secondary wand store, Wands by Gregorovitch! • You must store all bags to ride Gringotts. Sometimes, getting to those lockers can take as long as a line! Instead, go through the Wiseacre’s Wizard Equipment store and come in the back way to the lockers to avoid the crowds! • Did you know there’s no soda in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Diagon Alley™? That’s right. If you need your soda fix, pick them up in another part of Universal Studios before entering Diagon Alley™ (King Cross Station is a great place to do this). • Butterbeer is available in at least 3 different locations! 1, 2, 3…..find the one with the shortest line to get your Butterbeer fix in a hurry! • Come in the late afternoon and evening. Everyone’s so excited about the new park that it’s packed in the morning. However, it doesn’t take all day to see everything, so most people are moving on to other attractions in the late afternoon. Wizarding World stays open as long as Universal Studios is open, so hit the rest of the park in the morning and come to Diagon Alley™, later. • In line with the previous tip, the shops stay open until the lines for Gringotts close. This means you can shop while everyone’s getting that last ride in, late at night. • Buy your souvenirs before you leave home. This will keep you on budget, deter impulse buying, and you can wrap them up and give them to your kids as gifts when you arrive in Orlando. This really adds a fun dimension to your vacation, rather than fighting over a trinket in the park and ruining the whole souvenir experience. We recommend for these purchases. They have almost everything that you can buy in the park, usually for much less! You can get the very same things at the WB Shop, online. Usually for much less. http://bit.ly/WBHarryPotter • Save $90! If you’re staying at a Disney World resort, you can buy the 1 day/2 park pass with shuttle transfers from DestinationsInFlorida.com that includes a shuttle bus to Universal Orlando. This can save you up to $90 in transportation costs. • Add Universal Express to your tickets. The only way you’ll effectively see two parks in one day is to add the Universal Express option to your tickets. This add-on gives you front of the line access to many of the popular rides at Universal Orlando. Use it effectively and you’ll be done by dinner. Get it early, though. Universal caps the number of Express passes they sell and when they’re gone, they’re gone. • Get free breakfast! If you book the Wizarding World of Harry Potter vacation package with DestinationsInFlorida.com, you get free breakfast at Leaky Cauldron. • Upgrade your tickets to the 14-day Flex Pass. If you’re going to be vacationing for more than 7 days, this pass will bring your daily ticket cost down below $20 per day for Universal Orlando, Sea World, and Busch Gardens. • Staying at a Universal Orlando Resort hotel grants you early admission to both Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Hogsmeade and Wizarding World of Harry potter: Diagon Alley. This is a great way to ride Gringotts before the crowds hit. Contact our friends at DestinationsInFlorida.com to learn more about booking your stay.
