Wednesday 1St April 2020 (Prime Lambs and Cull Wednesday 1st April 2020 Morgan Evans & Co Ltd Gaerwen Auction Centre Easter Prime Lamb Show & Sale Messrs Morgan Evans & Co report an entry of 110 New Season Lambs, 100 Old Hoggets and 150 Cull Ewes & Rams in the Easter Show & Sale. The sale was kindly sponsored by Mr Geraint Evans of Tiethbarn Ltd and the show was judged by Phillip Smith Esq, Cefn Ynysoedd. Under challenging circumstances the Coronavirus outbreak restricted attendance to a minimum at the market. All sections sold to a fast trade with a total clearance to the satisfaction of all producers with stock forward. The award for the best single spring lamb was given to Mr H A P Jones, Penhesgyn for a 34kg lamb which was later bought by the judge for £120 at 352 pence per kilo. The best pair of Spring Lambs was awarded to a pair of 38kg Texel Lambs owned by Mr E I P Jones, Gwenfro with the pair realising £106 (279 pence per kilo), with the judge also purchasing these prize winners. It is rather at odds that the Anglesey Local Access Forum (a subcommittee of the Council) who we presented our scheme to in November which gave Lôn Las Môn a unanimous vote of approval. As have three Community Councils along its route. As this is a scheme to be run by Lôn Las Môn CIC, we are not looking for Isle of Anglesey to run or manage the project, we just need their support and not to oppose clearly what would be a benefit to the island and a whole. 2. We are aware of the consultation between Network Rail & the Welsh Government on the proposed lease of the railway in June 2016 with an associated 3 month rolling termination provision.

    ISLE OF ANGLESEY COUNTY COUNCIL COMMITTEE: COUNTY COUNCIL DATE: 14TH SEPTEMBER 2010 TITLE OF REPORT: GAERWEN TO AMLWCH RAILWAYLINE PURPOSE: TO CLARIFY THE COUNCIL’S POSITION REPORT BY: HEAD OF SERVICE (HIGHWAYS AND WASTE MANAGEMENT) ACTION: TO ACCEPT THE RECOMMENDATION 1.0 INTRODUCTION 1.1 The railway line from Gaerwen to Amlwch was closed to passenger transport in 1964 as part of Dr Beeching’s railway cuts, with the line kept open for freight traffic to Octel at Amlwch until 1993. 2.0 DEVELOPMENTS SINCE CLOSURE 2.1 Since 1993 the disused line has been the subject of various proposals to open the whole or part of it to either a heritage railway or as a cycle track. However, there have been no developments and the line remains the property of Network Rail, whilst the track is overgrown and the boundary fences and structures, such as bridges and retaining walls, continue to deteriorate with little or no maintenance work undertaken. 2.2 The County Council’s meeting of the 6th March 2007 resolved “that this Council’s preferred options for the Line is that of a cycle, walking and bridlepath route”. 2.3 Since that date there has been renewed hope of reopening the railway line with the Welsh Assembly Government commissioning a feasibility study for a train service between Bangor and Gaerwen and the potential for external private funding for a heritage railway between Llangefni and Amlwch. 2.4 At their meeting of the 7th September 2009 the Executive Committee unanimously resolved in favour of a train service between Gaerwen and Llangefni and that the matter should be taken to the County Council to review its original decision.
