Ever since I was child, I remember the impact that movies had on me. As I grew up, people would always ask me what my favorite inspirational movies were. I had my favorites. We all do. Several years ago, my wife and I started an Inspirational and Self Improvement website, http://www.SelfGrowth.com. It was and still is loaded with tons of information on Inspirational Books, Quotes, Articles, Experts, Seminars, Newsletters, and Products to inspire you and help you improve your life. But there was always a piece missing. The missing piece of the Inspiration Puzzle was Inspirational Movies; we never included any information on Inspirational Movies. This e-book is my attempt at remedying that situation. We faced several challenges. 1. How do we decide what is an Inspirational Movie? 2. How do we rank the top Inspirational Movies? 3. What information should we include on each of the movies in the book? To answer the first two questions, we decided to go to our “Readers.” Our Internet business includes websites and newsletters on Self Improvement and Personal Growth. Our main Self Improvement newsletter has over 200,000 subscribers interested in Self Improvement and Inspiration. (See http://www.SelfImprovementNewsletters.com.) I decided to let our newsletter subscribers answer the first two questions. I sent out a survey to over 200,000 people asking them to tell me their favorite Inspirational Movie. I received thousands of responses that included over 800 different Inspirational Movies. The Top 101 Inspirational Movies – http://www.SelfGrowth.com We counted the votes and ranked these movies based solely on the number of times a movie title was voted on by our readers. This book contains the Top 101 Inspirational Movies based solely on our Survey. The movies are ranked in order from 1 to 101. And the Survey says (that the Most Inspirational Movie of All Time is)… “It’s a Wonderful Life,” starring Jimmy Stewart. Are these actually the most inspiring movies off all time? In truth, only you, the reader, can answer that, but we believe that this list provides you with a great start. The survey answered the first two questions for us: What are the Top 101 Most Inspirational Movies and how should they be ranked? The only question left unanswered was, “What information should we include about each of the movies?” I decided to keep it simple. Each movie chapter contains a short synopsis, information about the main cast, memorable quotes, and a few links for additional information about the movie quickly. WHAT LINKS ARE INCLUDED? For each movie: • I included a link to The Internet Movie Database (http://www.IMDB.com). I believe that this is the best movie website on the Internet. • I included a link to Roger Ebert’s movie reviews. I believe he is one of the best movie reviewers alive today. • I also included a link to Amazon.com for anybody interested in purchasing a copy of the movie. The Top 101 Inspirational Movies – http://www.SelfGrowth.com Spiritual Cinema This e-book includes many of my favorite inspirational and spiritual movies, including It's a Wonderful Life, Forrest Gump, Field of Dreams and Rudy. However, these are not the ONLY Inspirational Movies available to the general public. The biggest challenge with the movie industry today is that many inspirational, spiritual-oriented movies never make it to your local theater or video store, and they are difficult to find. The Spiritual Cinema Circle is changing that, though. See http://www.selfgrowth.com/spiritualcinema.html There are many profound, heartfelt, mindful movies that not only provide us with healthy entertainment and education, but that also truly help raise the consciousness of our world. “The best movies made every year go virtually unseen, because the big theaters don't think they’ll bring in big business,” says Stephen Simon, one of the founders of the Spiritual Cinema Circle. Stephen is the director and producer of James Twyman's new film, Indigo and has also produced many wonderful movies like Somewhere In Time and What Dreams May Come. He is a pioneer of spiritual cinema and has been working to get more movies for people like you and me to see. When you subscribe to the Spiritual Cinema Circle, you’ll receive 3-5 inspiring features, shorts and documentaries each month on DVD...and you get to keep them forever! These are enlightening, inspiring and deeply moving movies that ask (and answer) the big questions about life. There is also no long-term commitment required. You get to keep the DVDs no matter what. In the event you decide to no longer be a member, you can The Top 101 Inspirational Movies – http://www.SelfGrowth.com easily unsubscribe at any time, no questions asked...and you don't have to return any of your DVDs. • Black Soldiers in Liberal Hollywood
Katherine Kinney Cold Wars: Black Soldiers in Liberal Hollywood n 1982 Louis Gossett, Jr was awarded the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Gunnery Sergeant Foley in An Officer and a Gentleman, becoming theI first African American actor to win an Oscar since Sidney Poitier. In 1989, Denzel Washington became the second to win, again in a supporting role, for Glory. It is perhaps more than coincidental that both award winning roles were soldiers. At once assimilationist and militant, the black soldier apparently escapes the Hollywood history Donald Bogle has named, “Coons, Toms, Bucks, and Mammies” or the more recent litany of cops and criminals. From the liberal consensus of WWII, to the ideological ruptures of Vietnam, and the reconstruction of the image of the military in the Reagan-Bush era, the black soldier has assumed an increasingly prominent role, ironically maintaining Hollywood’s liberal credentials and its preeminence in producing a national mythos. This largely static evolution can be traced from landmark films of WWII and post-War liberal Hollywood: Bataan (1943) and Home of the Brave (1949), through the career of actor James Edwards in the 1950’s, and to the more politically contested Vietnam War films of the 1980’s. Since WWII, the black soldier has held a crucial, but little noted, position in the battles over Hollywood representations of African American men.1 The soldier’s role is conspicuous in the way it places African American men explicitly within a nationalist and a nationaliz- ing context: U.S. history and Hollywood’s narrative of assimilation, the combat film.

  • Katyn Crime Had Been Committed
Katyń 80th anniversary a reminder of the crimes of Soviet Russia committed against Poles in 1937-1941 Created by: Andrzej Burghardt Zbigniew Koralewski Krzysztof Wąż © COPYRIGHT 2021 Coalition of Polish Americans Knowledge of the history of Poland, our country of origin, including the tragedies of which Katyn is a symbol, is an extremely important element of the sense of national community. For a numer of reasons, the history of Poland, especially the period of World War II, is distorted and deformed, also in the United States, so we must strive to learn the truth about these events. This presentation will acquaint you closer with: Polish Operation; secret protocol between Germany and Russia; Hitler's orders; methods of extermination of the Polish nation; the Katyn massacre; deportations of Poles to Siberia; hiding and falsifying the truth about the Katyn genocide and deportations to Siberia. Polish Operation by NKVD in 1937 „Polish Operation” was carried out by the NKVD (communist secret police) two years before the Second World War. It consisted in arresting of people of Polish origin who lived within the domain of Soviet Russia. According to the documents, almost 240,000 people were imprisoned at that time, of which almost half were murdered, the rest were sentenced to stay in labor camps or deported to Kazakhstan and Siberia. Victims of the NKVD „Polish Operation” The action covered all suspected of Polish origin. Poles were killed or deported for only one reason: because they were Poles. This served as a model for organizing later mass arrests, forced resettlements and murders such as in Katyn.

  • Logging Into Horror's Closet
Logging into Horror’s Closet: Gay Fans, the Horror Film and Online Culture Adam Christopher Scales Thesis submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy University of East Anglia School of Art, Media and American Studies September 2015 © This copy of the thesis has been supplied on condition that anyone who consults it is understood to recognise that its copyright rests with the author and that use of any information derived there from must be in accordance with current UK Copyright Law. In addition, any quotation or extract must include full attribution. Abstract Harry Benshoff has boldly proclaimed that ‘horror stories and monster movies, perhaps more than any other genre, actively invoke queer readings’ (1997, p. 6). For Benshoff, gay audiences have forged cultural identifications with the counter-hegemonic figure of the ‘monster queer’ who disrupts the heterosexual status quo. However, beyond identification with the monstrous outsider, there is at present little understanding of the interpretations that gay fans mobilise around different forms and features of horror and the cultural connections they establish with other horror fans online. In addressing this gap, this thesis employs a multi-sited netnographic method to study gay horror fandom. This holistic approach seeks to investigate spaces created by and for gay horror fans, in addition to their presence on a mainstream horror site and a gay online forum.
