Rotary Bulletin33 – January 2015 ‘…read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest once a month for full satisfaction’

President Gill’s Journal

Halfway through the Rotary year already! Where has the time gone? However, we have achieved a lot during that time and look forward to more to come - have a look at the list of upcoming events further on in this Bulletin. We have a great mix of fun and fundraising lined up! Our annual joint meeting with Inner Wheel takes place on 9 February - and this year includes Rotaract - Professor Joy Carter, Vice-Chancellor of Winchester Rotary is our speaker and will talk about the University and the community. Before then, on 15 January, the first round of Youth Speaks takes place at Kings School - and an audience is needed. Many thanks to Maggie Hastie for her efficient organisation. Our exchange visit to Calcutta is underway and we look forward to the team's safe return and report back.

All that remains is for me to wish you all a very happy and peaceful 2015 - some of you will have seen the New Year greeting from District Governor Mike Jackson, which seems to me to say it all very well:

"Rotary and Peace the world over. Rotary is a non-religious and non-political organisation.

Now is the time to really think about those words we often repeat. To achieve peace we really need to look beyond religious and political beliefs. They so often cloud the real issue which is living in harmony with each other and helping out those less well off than ourselves. Rotary, and our 4 way test really does say it all:

Is it the truth, is it fair to all, will it spread goodwill and understanding and will it be beneficial to all concerned.

As we move from 2014 into 2015 let us let those thoughts guide our actions". Gill Russell

Real (Mock) Interviews Service Wednesday 10 December

Mock or Real? - that is the question. Perhaps the term 'Mock Interviews' is a misnomer because, for those taking
