KNEZ SMITHSONIAN CONTRIBUTIONS TO ANTHROPOLOGY • NUMBER 39 SERIES PUBLICATIONS OF THE SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION Emphasis upon publication as a means of "diffusing knowledge" was expressed by the first Secretary of the Smithsonian. In his formal plan for the institution, Joseph Henry outlined a program that included the following statement: "It is proposed to publish a series of reports, giving an account of the new discoveries in science, and of the changes made from year to year in all branches of knowledge." This theme of basic research has been adhered to through the years by thousands of titles issued in series publications under the Smithsonian imprint, commencing with Smithsonian Contributions to Knowledge in 1848 and continuing with the following active series: Smithsonian Contributions to Anthropology Smithsonian Contributions to Botany Smithsonian Contributions to the Earth Sciences Smithsonian Contributions to the Marine Sciences Smithsonian Contributions to Paleobiology Smithsonian Contributions to Zoology Smithsonian Folklife Studies Smithsonian Studies in Air and Space Smithsonian Studies in History and Technology In these series, the Institution publishes small papers and full-scale monographs that report the research and collections of its various museums and bureaux or of professional colleagues in the world of science and scholarship. The publications are distributed by mailing lists to libraries, universities, and similar institutions throughout the world. Papers or monographs submitted for series publication are received by the Smithsonian Institution Press, subject to its own review for format and style, only through departments of the various Smithsonian museums or bureaux, where the manuscripts are given substantive review.

  • Wedding Guidelines
Wedding Guidelines Congratulations on your engagement! We are pleased that you have selected St. Joseph Parish to be a part of your special day. We want to help you plan a wedding ceremony that is spiritual and sacramental in accordance with the Catholic belief that marriage is a lifelong commitment and that it is a sacrament. Parish Registration: The exchange of wedding vows in the Catholic Church is a sacrament (Holy Matrimony) when it is between two baptized Christians. All sacraments, including marriage, are celebrated in the presence of a faith community. Also, registration as a member of our faith community signifies your commitment to practicing the Catholic faith which includes regular attendance at Sunday celebrations of the Eucharist, receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation on a regular basis, and living other basics of the Catholic faith. For these reasons, we require that at least one member of the engaged couple (or one of their parents) be a registered parishioner at least 6 months prior to the wedding. Children of St. Joseph’s parishioners who are members of another parish must provide us with a letter showing that we have that parish’s permission to perform their marriage. Non-parishioners can also be married here at St. Joseph Parish but either the bride or the groom must be a registered member at a Catholic parish and must receive permission from that parish to hold the wedding here. Days and Times of Weddings: Wedding ceremonies may take place at St. Joseph Parish on Friday or on Saturday. To accommodate liturgical schedules, Saturday weddings can be held at 1:00 in the afternoon or earlier.

  • Bridal Shower Drawing Game
Wedding DRAWING GAME start ♥ finish ♥ ♥ ♥ WHAT YOU NEED: White boards or drawing pads, Markers, 1 Dice, 2 Objects for Game Pieces, Timer HOW TO PLAY: Divide into two equal teams. Roll the dice to see who goes first (highest roll wins). Place game pieces on start box. The first team picks a card from the pile, silently reads the word(s) on the card and then draws the word for his/her team to guess. The team has one minute to guess the correct word. If they do so, they then roll the dice and move as many spaces as shown on the dice. If they land on a heart, it is an “all play” and both teams draw the same word and whomever guesses it first gets to roll the dice. Play continues until one team reaches the final box. ©2017 THE TOMKAT STUDIO For personal use only tomkatstudio.com ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ BRIDE GROOM BRIDESMAID GROOMSMAN ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ USHER FLOWER GIRL RING BEARER OFFICIANT ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ FATHER OF THE MOTHER OF THE MAID OF HONOR BEST MAN BRIDE BRIDE ©2017 THE TOMKAT STUDIO For personal use only tomkatstudio.com ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ WEDDING VOWS I DO FIRST KISS FIRST DANCE ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ WEDDING CAKE TOAST RINGS FLOWERS ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ GARTER BOUQUET BOUTONNIERE HONEYMOON ©2017 THE TOMKAT STUDIO For personal use only tomkatstudio.com ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ WEDDING DRESS AISLE KISS THE BRIDE CHAPEL ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ VEIL TUXEDO GIFTS CARDS ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ INVITATION SAVE THE DATE PHOTOGRAPHER FLORIST ©2017 THE TOMKAT STUDIO For personal use only tomkatstudio.com .

  • Catholic Weddings
Salve Regina University Handbook and Policies for Catholic Weddings You must arrange for a priest or deacon to preside at your marriage, if you are able to arrange this, you may proceed to our handbook and policies Your Marriage is Holy The wedding you are now beginning to plan is, in the view of the Catholic Church, a significant religious event. Your wedding will engage your guests in celebrating your love as it is consecrated and sealed in the Rites of the Catholic Church. Before God’s altar, the priest or deacon, and the Church, you will pledge your love to each other in the bond of life-long fidelity. This is the beginning of your journey together through life in the Sacrament of Marriage. It is important from the very early stages of the wedding preparation to focus as much attention on the details of the wedding ceremony in our Chapel as on the other important aspects of your wedding day. Our Catholic Wedding Coordinator is available to assist you in preparing for your wedding. Your local priest or deacon, our Ceremony Coordinator, and your musicians will help make your wedding beautiful and meaningful. We will help you create a ceremony that will be joyful and dignified, and that will speak clearly to your guests of the religious nature of the wedding celebration. Our goal is to ensure that your wedding ceremony runs smoothly and to help you to prepare for the sacrament of marriage. Our Chapel is Sacred and it is our requirement that your ceremony be dignified.

  • Pocahontas If I Never Knew You
Pocahontas if i never knew you Continue The romantic love song was originally developed for the prison scene where Pocahontas visits John Smith before he is to be sentenced for the alleged murder of Kokum, a trusted Powhatan warrior who asked to marry Pocahontas. The musical number, which was about 90% animated, was supposed to be a duet performed by the couple as they acknowledge their strong romantic love for each other. During test screenings with a children's audience their attention seemed to wander out of the film, Alan Menken, the songwriter for Disney's Pocahontas, offered to cut it because he also felt he had slowed the tempo of the film, with another song, Savages, about five minutes after that. Although cut out of the movie itself, if I never knew you still performed John Secada and Shanice at the end of the credits and released as a single. John Sekada and Shanis also sang the song in Spanish, and John Sekada also sang it in Brazilian Portuguese, not with Shanice, but with Daniela Mercury. In 2005, Disney released the tenth anniversary edition of Pocahontas, in which the song was fully animated and integrated into the film, but was an additional feature from which it was possible to opt out and watch the original theatrical version instead, due to seamless branching. It was performed by Mel Gibson (John Smith) and Judy Kuhn (Pocahontas) in the film's narration. It was recorded for the original film in 1995. This song shows the meaning, if both Pocahontas and John Smith had not met, they would never have fallen in love, and they would never have known each other without hatred and disgust on both sides; Native Americans and English settlers.
