Bouncers is a challenge and requires a performance style that depends as much on energy as it does technique, a cast of four male actors twenty to fortyish who are versatile and above all flexible. This flexibility also applies to the script, allowing us to incorporate modern, social and global events keeping the play alive and current. It contains many truths about human nature, but we don’t need to show them all at once. We can make it work well for our cast and audience, in our space. The play was conceived for an audience that regards the theatre as box sets, big red curtains and tedious actors. The theatre can certainly be all that – but it can also be Bouncers. Shakers, is a companion piece to Bouncers that uses a humorous and observational approach to illustrate female issues.
