By 2040, the expectation is that the number of passengers transported by air around the world will double, reaching 8,900 million people. For Latin America and the Caribbean, the most recent Panel of Experts Report (ICAO IATA, ACI), projects an annual growth of 3.8% of passenger and cargo traffic over the next 25 years. This implies that as a country we must prepare for an increase in traffic with significant improvements in technological aspects and facilitating air cargo. Connecting with destinations such as Asia, west coast and central of the USA, is a priority of our administration with the objective of reaching a passenger with a higher purchasing power and spending, on one hand, and facilitating air trade on the other. As a result of that decision, in 2019, we signed legal documents with the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, and with the People's Republic of China, which was subsequently formalized by the President of the Dominican Republic, Mr. Danilo Medina on his first official visit to that country ; the definitive agreement with the State of Israel, the Republic of Peru, the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Netherlands Antilles with respect to San Martín and Curaçao. Similarly, with Portugal, Antigua and Barbuda; Seychelles, Rwanda, Kuwait, Poland, Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Kingdom of Belgium, Malaysia, Guatemala, Saudi Arabia, the Sultanate of Oman and the Kingdom of Spain, in addition to the progress in negotiations with the Republic of the Congo and the Government of the United States of America. Twelve legal instruments were signed in the 12th ICAO Air Services Negotiation Event (ICAN 2019). All these agreements facilitate the air transport of cargo and passengers between our business partners and greatly benefit our country, which is enhanced by its unique geographical position and excellent business and investment climate. In that same sense, the signing of 13 commercial codeshare agreements between different international airlines throughout these three (3) years running this Board, for a total of 27, facilitates the arrival of visiting passengers from a greater number of destinations and is a clear signal of the confidence of these operators for our market. Boosting air connectivity is a strategic pillar of the Civil Aviation Board. Every day there are more Dominicans that access this safe mode of transportation, shortening the distance between family and loved ones. Today, 636 thousand Dominican residents fly to different destinations
