Resistance Is Futile Star Trek Adventures Your Ship Is Oursby Colin Resistance Is Futile Assimilated Ships In the Delta Quadrant Sourcebook, official rules are given for including starships assimilated by the Borg into your Star Trek Adventures campaign. These stats are based on the assimilation rules from the Delta Quadrant Sourcebook, NPC starships stats from the core Star Trek Adventures rulebook, and NPC Federation ship stats from the Klingon Empire Core Rulebook. Common Borg Rules: These stat blocks all include the various Borg- specific rules found on page 186 of Image © Eaglemoss Studios the STA core rulebook and page 82- 83 of the Delta Quadrant Rulebook. Advanced Transporters: Borg ships are capable of transporting over longer distances and through shields. Regenerative Systems: Borg ships can actually repair breaches suffered in combat and do so very quickly. Threat Protocols: Borg systems are constantly analyzing and will allow Borg ships to take more turns in a round than most NPC ships can manage. Auto‐Regeneration Units: These small, semi-independent drones will repair the ship quickly and respond to damage. Transwarp Drive: Borg ships have transwarp coils which allow them to travel more quickly than warp coils can manage. Partly‐Assimilated Vessels: As an option, GMs can introduce ships which have been partly assimilated by the Borg but are not yet fully under their control. The Borg are remarkably fast and efficient in all things so this is a very narrow window of time but might be used for a ship which is crippled by a Borg ship during a battle and the PCs have to recapture it after defeating the Borg, or in a scenario where the players’ ship is assimilated and they have to take it back. In this case, it is recommended you use the original ship stats but add the Borg rules above and the Trait Assimilated Vessel. Within a day or so the vessel will be fully under the Borg’s control. Star Trek Adventures Your Ship Is Oursby Colin “Mephit James” Wilson Resistance Is Futile The Federation Akira-Class One of the most powerful ships created by the Federation following the Borg attack on Earth, homeworld of the Human species (Species 5618). After assimilation they will rely on transwarp drives as well but the rare elements in the vessel’s nacelles and warp core will speed up the process of developing transwarp coils and other Borg technologies. The chances that a Constitution-class vessel would be deployed against the Collective and that it would be captured rather than destroyed outright is an unlikely scenario. However, the Borg have used time travel before and any Borg vessel arriving in the 23rd century could capture a Constitution-class ship and use it to get close to Earth fooling Federation sensors. This makes it more likely that the Collective would attempt to disable and capture a Defiant-class vessel and use its technology to improve and adapt their designs. The systems in the Defiant are still inferior to the Collective’s leading technology but understanding the cutting edge of Federation design would help the Collective in future conflicts with Starfleet. Though it was ultimately a failure, the Excelsior-class spaceframe contains enough legacy design that nanites can transform it into Borg transwarp coils in a shorter time. Combined with the opportunity for a combat-ready ship this can be a valuable capture for a Borg ship operating alone. The Enterprise-D was the first Federation ship to confront the Borg and continually stymied the Collective’s attempts to conquer the Federation. Capturing and assimilating a Galaxy-class vessel might be an important step in finally assimilating the Federation. • Ships of the Tzenkethi Coalition
Ships of the Tzenkethi Coalition Diffused Tetryon Beam The Tzenkethi use a diffused beam of tetryons as their primary energy weapons. These weapons resemble phasers but they also are debilitating to deflector systems. Diffused tetryon weapons grant the Versatile 1 and Piercing 1 Qualities. Shuk-din Cruiser In their wars against other forces in the Alpha Quadrant, the Shuk-din-class cruiser is both patrol ship and frontline vessel. Hundreds of these ships move through Coalition space and keep it blocked off from other species. This is the first commission of many Tzenkethi officers but a large percentage choose to stay on Shuk-din vessels rather than be promoted to larger starships. There is an intimacy to the compact Shuk-din that is appealing to communally-minded Tzenkethi. On larger ships and colonies Tzenkethi soldiers will mix with other Echelons but onboard a Shuk-din cruiser they have only other soldiers to interact with. While not for everyone, this is a reassuring situation for many of the Lor Echelon. The smallest of the Tzenkethi capital ships, the Shuk-din-class cruiser is fast and maneuverable but with the powerful tetryon weapons of the Tzenkethi Coalition. Their strong shields and powerful weapon systems allow Shuk-din cruisers to contend with much larger starships, though once their shields fail the Shuk-din has few resources to sustain direct hits. • Creating “Star Trek CATAN – Federation Space”
Creating “Star Trek CATAN – Federation Space” After Star Trek Catan was so well received, and as many of you asked us to take this joint venture of the two franchises Catan and Star Trek even further towards the “Final Frontier,” we thought long and hard about what kind of game expansion you would enjoy. As we knew that a lot of players liked our Catan Geographies™ maps so much, which take the whole Settlers of Catan experience towards a real map to put settlements in, we thought: Let us take Star Trek Catan into a “real” region of space to put our little NCC-1701 spaceships in. The crucial question was: Is there a region of space sufficiently “real” inside the Star Trek – The Original Series time period? After a bit of research, we discovered this wonderful map titled “The Explored Galaxy” over at the Memory Alpha wiki. As it turned out, this was “as real as it could get,” as it had been first shown hanging on a wall in none other than Captain James T. Kirk’s quarters in the Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country motion picture (and subsequently in various episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation). Every true Star Trek fan knows that this particular map depicts a lot of the known and beloved locations shown in The Original Series of the 60s, and some of those from The Animated Series of the 70s. We took great effort to investigate and cross-reference all these depicted celestial bodies with their respective episodes. © CATAN GmbH - Page 1 We then added a couple of planets that were not actually shown on this map but that we would really want to have in our game, and tried to pinpoint their locations according to mostly in-canon and sometimes semi-canon sources.

  • Beyond the Final Frontier: Star Trek, the Borg and the Post-Colonial
Beyond the Final Frontier: Star Trek, the Borg and the Post-colonial Lynette Russell and Nathan Wolski Over the last three decades, Star Trek has become, to use Bernardi's term, a "mega-text" (1998: 11). Star Trek's mega-text consists of much more than the various studio-produced television series and films - it also includes (among other things) novels, Internet chat groups, conventions and fanzines. That Star Trek's premise of space exploration is a thinly disguised metaphor for colonialism has been extensively analysed (see Bernardi, 1998; Hastie, 1996; Ono 1996; Richards, 1997). Boyd describes the utopian future presented in Star Trek the Next Generation (STNG) as based on "nineteenth-century essentialist definitions of human nature, building ... on faith in perfection, progress, social evolution, and free will" (1996: 96-97). Exploration, colonisation and assimilation are never far from the surface of the STNG text. Less apparent, however, are aspects of the series which challenge the hegemonic view of this narrative and which present a post-colonial critique. In this paper we will explore a range of post-colonial moments and an emerging self reflexivity in the second generation series, focusing on those episodes of Star Trek: the Next Generation (STNG) and Star Trek: Voyager which feature an alien race known as the Borg. Others in space Much has been written about the role of the alien in science fiction as a means of exploring issues of otherness. As Wolmark notes: "Science fiction provides a rich source of metaphors for the depiction of otherness and the 'alien' is one of the most familiar: it enables difference to be constructed in terms of binary oppositions which reinforce relations of domination and subordination" (1994: 2).
