Please note that the Closing Date is set for the 18th December or when Brithdir Hall’s capacity is reached i.e. whichever is the sooner. The Welsh National appears to be continually ever more popular and is now a very large show for everything to be done in one day. (Other large shows spread the work load over two!) Getting all exhibits judged and onto Championship Row for the Championship Judge to sort along with all Main Awards and Trophy winners to be identified is no easy task when the work has to be done in a very short time. Last year, we only managed to sort the trophies by the skin of our teeth due to lack of help. Some fanciers, noticing we were short of Stewards, have since kindly offered their services for the forthcoming show. If there is someone else out there who could help on Show Day then it really would be appreciated if you could get in touch. Our Show Committee’s average age is over 70, therefore it would be super if some younger fanciers began to become involved. Regrettably, a thief took advantage of the fact that Stewards were under pressure at the last show - the situation being compounded by some exhibitors boxing their birds before having the all-clear to do so! As a result, for the first time in the Show’s entire history, an exhibit along with its Prize Card was stolen – a Black East Indian Duck. Psychologically, such a person cannot possibly experience the pleasure and pride genuine exhibitors experience when they achieve due to their own efforts. In view of this occurrence, all exhibitors in the future are requested to be on the alert for something untoward going on. No boxing of exhibits, please, before the announcement is made to do so by the Show Manager. Exhibitors are welcome, also, to padlock or cable-tie their pens after judging has taken place. CCTV will be operational. Hopefully, our 42nd Welsh National will be one that we will all enjoy. Best wishes, Alan (Davies) Hon. Sec. THE WELSH NATIONAL SHOW DINNER The Show Dinner is once again at the popular Beggars Reach Hotel just south of Haverfordwest. The hotel’s website is at www.beggars-reach.com. Kindly use the code ‘poultry’ if making a booking on this site. The menu can be found at the rear of the schedule and is priced at £19.50 per person. Please mark your choices on the entry form. CLEANF npip! ^H^IPB^pV BJ B* The National Poultry Improvement Plan became operative July 1, 1935, and the National Turkey Improvement Plan became operative September 25, 1943, with the approval of the Secretary of Agriculture. On December 3, 1971, the two Plans were combined under one title, "The National Poultry Improvement Plan," with separate provisions applicable to the different types of poultry. The Plan operates under the authority of an appropriation made by Congress to the United States Department of Agriculture to be used in cooperation with the State authorities in the administration of regulations for the improvement of poultry, poultry products, and hatcheries. Authority for the administration of the Plan is now contained in the Department of Agriculture Organic Act of 1944, as amended (7 U.S.C. 429). Provisions of the Plan are changed from time to time to conform with the development of the industry and with new information as it becomes available. These changes are based on recommendations made at the Biennial National Plan Conferences by official delegates representing participating breeders, hatcheries, and flockowners from all cooperating States. Current provisions of the Plan are described in a publication entitled "The National Poultry Improvement Plan and Auxiliary Provisions." The publication is available from Official State Agencies or on request to the National Poultry Improvement Plan, APHIS-VS, Building 265, BARC- East, Beltsville, Maryland 20705.

THE CORNISH FOWL PREFACE My viewpoint of Cornish may be slightly different from that of some present-dajr fanicers, on account of long association with the breed and the fact that I watched it emerge from a mass of nondescript fighting fowls bred originally for pit use in natural spurs, and for that purpose first brought to America. Many kinds of grade Orientals—some English-made crosses, others of pure East Indian blood—were bred in England as " In- dian Game " when the first club was organized and an effort made to establish certain features and colors as the proper thing for exhibition purposes.

  • The Guide to Acquiring Chickens
The guide to buying chickens The eglu is fantastically well equipped: it has an eggport, nesting box, roosting bars and a dropping tray but there is something missing – the chickens! It’s great to choose your own chickens but to make it easier we’ve put together a guide covering the different breeds available, what to look for in a healthy chicken and a comprehensive list of breeders across the country. The chickens that we supply have been carefully chosen for a variety of reasons. Miss Pepperpot and the Gingernut Ranger are great egg layers as well as being hardy and docile. As a general rule hybrid hens (like Miss Pepperpot and the Gingernut Ranger) combine the qualities of two or more pure breed hens to create a better all round chicken. Hybrid hens are justifiably popular because they lay consistent numbers of delicious eggs, are very easy to look after and make excellent pets for children. Beside the pictures below we have given their pseudonyms as well as some other very similar suitable breeds.
