La Moglie se n’è andata. Il Marito, abbandonato, cerca di rimettere insieme i pezzi per capire cosa è successo. Le domande che egli si pone evocano la visione di ricordi che generano altre domande, che risvegliano a loro volta un vortice di immagini ed emozioni che alla fine, inevitabilmente, lo conducono alla verità. Tale processo, il suo viaggio interiore dallo smarrimento alla comprensione, poteva essere narrato in forma di dialogo o di danza. Nata a Milano, ha frequentato la scuola del Teatro alla Scala e quindi la Royal Ballet School di Londra. Nel 1980 ha vinto il prestigioso Prix de Lausanne ed è entrata a far parte del Royal Ballet; nel 1983, all’età di 19 anni, Sir Kenneth MacMillan l’ha scelta per far parte dei suoi balletti Romeo and Juliet, Manon e Mayerling divenendo così prima ballerina della compagnia. In seguito ha coreografato vari ruoli appositamente per lei. Nel 1985 Mikhail Baryshnikov l’ha invitata ad unirsi all’American Ballet Theatre in cui ha ballato come prima ballerina fino al 2007. Dal 1992 al 2007 è stata l’ètoile della Scala. Si è inoltre esibita con le maggiori compagnie di balletto internazionali fra cui il Ballet National de l’Opéra de Paris e il Royal Ballet, nei più importanti teatri delle capitali del mondo. Ha lavorato al fianco dei più grandi coreografi del nostro tempo: Sir Frederick Ashton, Sir Kenneth MacMillan, Jerome Robbins, Roland Petit, Jiri Kylian, John Neumeier, Billy Forsythe e Twyla Tharp. Fra i suoi ruoli più noti ricordiamo Giselle, Juliet, Manon e Carmen. Alessandra Ferri ha ricevuto numerosi prestigiosi premi internazionali, fra cui il Sir Lawrence Olivier Award, il Dance Magazine Award, il Benois de la Danse Prix e il titolo onorifico di Cavaliere della Repubblica che le è stato conferito dal presidente della repubblica italiana Carlo Azeglio Ciampi. È apparsa in numerosi cortometraggi fra cui Carmen e Prelude; in quest’ultimo ha collaborato con Sting. Al di là della danza, ha recitato a teatro, nella produzione dell’opera di Jean Cocteau La voce umana al Piccolo Teatro di Milano. Si è ritirata dalle scene nel 2007 e dal 2008 cura il programma della sezione danza del Festival di Spoleto, presentando importanti compagnie di danza quali il Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, l’Hamburg Ballett_John Neumeier e la Mark Morris Dance Company. The Piano Upstairs segna il ritorno alle scene di Alessandra Ferri. JOHN WEIDMAN John Weidman ha scritto libretti per una nutrita serie di musical di Broadway e off-Broadway, tra cui: Pacific Overtures, Assassins e Road Show, tutti con musiche di Stephen Sondheim; Contact, realizzato con la regista/coreografa Susan Stroman; Happiness, con musiche di Scott Frankel e Michael Korie, diretto e coreografato da Susan Stroman; Take Flight e Big, con musiche di Richard Maltby Jr. e David Shire; e il nuovo libretto, scritto insieme a Timothy Crouse, per i revival del Lincoln Center Theatre e del Roundabout Theater di Anything Goes di Cole Porter, che con una nuova produzione ha vinto il Tony Award 2012 per il miglior revival di un musical. Dal 1999 al 2009 è stato Presidente della Dramatists Guild of America. BOYD GAINES Boyd Gaines è stato di recente co-protagonista della rappresentazione australiana di A spasso con Daisy, al fianco di Angela Lansbury e James Earl Jones. In precedenza, si è esibito a Broadway nelle produzioni del Manhattan Theatre Club di Un nemico del popolo e The Columnist, con John Lithgow. Per il cinema ha diretto: Un cuore semplice, sceneggiatura di Cesare Zavattini dal racconto di Gustave Flaubert, premiato con il David di Donatello, il Premio Rizzoli, il Premio Saint Vincent e il Nastro d’argento; Caccia alla Vedova, sceneggiatura di Enrico Medioli dalla Vedova scaltra di Goldoni; Tosca e altre due di Franca Valeri, sceneggiatura di Enrico Medioli. Per il teatro ha messo in scena spettacoli di autori classici e contemporanei come Pirandello, Strindberg, Goldoni, Carlo Bernari, Francesca Sanvitale, Enzo Siciliano, Franca Valeri, Cesare Musatti, Natalia Ginzburg e Corrado Augias. Per il Festival dei Due Mondi di Spoleto ha messo in scena nel 2010 l’opera Gogo no eiko di Hans Werner Henze, nel 2011 l’opera buffa Amelia al ballo di Gian Carlo Menotti e nel 2012 l’opera The Turn of the Screw di Benjamin Britten.
