RESET2020 TEACHERS

CATARINA CARVALHO Catarina Carvalho is a based artist. Born in Lisbon, Catarina trained at École Supérieure de Danse de Cannes in France with a scholarship from the Ambrosoli Foundation (Zürich). Catarina’s career began at de L’Ópera National du Rhin, experiencing a broad range of the company’s repertoire under the direction of Bertrand D’At. Catarina danced for Company Wayne McGregor for 10 years and has toured in various company productions around the world. During this time Catarina was also Rehearsal Assistant and assisted Wayne McGregor in several projects. Catarina continues to collaborate with Studio Wayne McGregor as an assistant, restager, dancer and teacher. In 2019 Catarina performed in Tree of Codes at the Bastille, re-staged Pre-Sentient for Rambert and Symbiont(s) for Ballet Central. Most recently as a freelance artist Catarina has performed in ’s productions Contagion and Staging Schiele, and with Tânia Carvalho Company in Onironauta. Catarina’s choreographic work has been present- ed in a wide range of settings. In 2017 she created Grande Fugue for Sadler’s Wells elderly community group Silver Routes and alumni from National Youth Dance Company as part of Dance Umbrella Festival. And in 2020, she created MultiVox for Elmhusrt ’s Synergy programme.

HANNAH KIDD Hannah grew up in Oxfordshire and began her training at and went onto London School where she completed her BA Hons and later MA in dance. Hannah has performed for many leading companies and choreographer’s, notably Merce Cunningham Company, Russell Maliphant, New Movement Collective, Ashley Page, Voxed/Wayne Parsons Dance, Didy Veldman, Yorke Dance Project and Mark Bruce Company. With Richard Alston Dance Company, with whom she performed for six years both nationally and internationally, Hannah was nominated for the National Dance Award’s Outstanding Female Performer in 2012. Hannah was part of the original cast for Bruce’s Dracula which was winner of the Sky Arts South Bank Award 2014 and was nominated for a Critics Circle award for her role as Penelope in Bruce’s Odyssey in 2016. Most recently she performed in A night of 100 solo’s, a centennial celebration for Merce Cunningham at the Barbican, London, the event was live streamed worldwide. Alongside performing Hannah has taught in many of the UK’s dance conservatoire’s on both undergraduate and post- graduate programmes at London Contemporary Dance School, at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance, and at Trinity Laban, as well as for companies Richard Alston Dance Company, Yorke Dance Project, ’s New Adventure’s and Mark Bruce Company.

JOHANNES STEPANEK Austrian choreographer, movement director, assistant director and teacher Johannes Stepanek is a former First Soloist of and has worked as an Assistant Director on several productions for . Johannes was born in Austria and studied at the Ballet School of the , where he joined the company in 1996. In 2000 he became a member of The Royal Ballet. As a First Soloist he performed an extensive repertory including classi- cal and contemporary works. He created roles for choreographers including , , and Wayne McGregor. He also danced as a guest artist in theatres around the world. Since retiring from the stage, Johannes has worked widely as an Assistant Director and Movement Director. He recently returned to The Royal Ballet to revive . He has assisted Javier De Frutos on Les Enfants Terribles with The Royal Ballet at the Barbican, assisted director Barrie Kosky on Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg at Bayreuth Festival, Agrippina in Munich, which he also revived for The Royal Opera, and Prince Igor in Paris. He was Movement Director for the world premiere of GerMANIA for Opéra de Lyon and Movement and Associate Director for Das Rheingold at Longborough Festival Opera. His plans include work for the Royal Opera, Dutch National Opera and Hamburg Opera. Johannes was a Principal Ballet coach for the motion picture and is a regular guest teacher and coach for Studio Wayne McGregor amongst others.

JOSHUA BARWICK Joshua is from Yorkshire and trained locally before joining ’s Academy aged 14. At 16 he started training at Elmhurst - School of the Royal Ballet. Upon graduating in 2010 Joshua moved back to Leeds to join Northern Ballet where he performed extensively throughout the UK and across Europe dancing in many productions by David Nixon and creating a role in Kenneth Tindall’s ‘The Ultimate Form.’ In 2013 Joshua moved to London to perform a guest contract with New English Ballet Theatre for a gala at The in . Joshua then joined Rambert in 2014, where he was part of many creations and re-stagings working with many choreographers including Mark Baldwin, Merce Cunningham, Didy Veldman and Kim Brandstrup, a highlight being - performing a title role in Christopher Bruce’s ‘Ghost .’ In 2019 Joshua joined Company Wayne McGregor where he performed in works - Autobiography, Living Archive and Outlier. He toured globally throughout 2019, some highlights being performing at the Bolshoi Theatre, creating and working with Wayne in the studio and dancing the central duet in ‘Outlier’ alongside . Alongside Joshua’s professional dancing career he is a freelance teacher / rehearsal director and is enjoying growing his experience and passion in this field also. KATE PRICE Kate trained at the and London Contemporary Dance School before joining Rambert. During her time there she worked with many different choreographers including Richard Alston, Christopher Bruce, and Glen Tetley. Following this she worked as a freelance dancer with Michael Clark, Lloyd Newson and Mark Baldwin among others. She has taught extensively in this country and abroad both professional companies and in schools including Richard Alston Dance Co, Rambert, Michael Clark Co, DV8, New Adventures, Charleroi Danse, Paris Conservatoire and Rambert school. Before joining the faculty at LCDS Kate was rehearsal director for RADC.

LUKE AHMET Luke was born in London and trained at the Royal Ballet School from the age of 11. After graduating he joined (soloist) where he danced for 10 years and then went on to dance for Rambert until 2019. In 2004 he performed with K Ballet Company, at the Metropolitan Opera House NYC for the gala. He has danced a range of roles with The Royal Ballet, Scottish Ballet, and Rambert by renowned choreographers such as Balanchine, Ashton, Forsythe, Page, Alston, Macmillan, Wheeldon, Tetley, Christopher Bruce and Matthew Bourne. Luke was an Olivier nominated dancer for outstanding achievements in 2017 for Mark Baldwin’s ‘Creation’. Most recently Luke was a guest dancer with Company Wayne McGregor in ‘Tree of Codes’ in Paris with the Ballet.

MATHIEU GEFFRÉ Graduated from the Paris Conservatoire in 2006, Mathieu has danced across Europe for the past 14 years. As a member of companies such as Dansgroep Amsterdam, Noord Nedelandse Dans and National Dance Company Wales, he collabo- rated with some of the most celebrated choreographers: , Johan Inger, Mark Baldwin, , Christopher Bruce among others. Mathieu Geffré teaches contemporary dance classes and has been developing the content of it in response to his physical needs across his career as a dancer. The class lightly borrows from the fundamental patterns of Cunningham technique, supported by a sensorial approach inspired by Fasciatherapy. “We try to establish our sense of verticality without compromising the notion of movement”. Artistic director of the company Rendez-Vous dance Mathieu’s work has been performed internationally. In 2016 he receives the 3rd Prize during the Copenhagen Internation- al Choreography Competition. Past commissions include National Theatre Mannheim, Boston Dance Theatre, , National Dance Company Wales.

MATZ SKOOG Matz has enjoyed an extensive career at the highest level in both and contemporary dance, working with artists such as Mark Morris, Mats Ek, Jiri Kylian, Glen Tetley, Sir Fredrick Ashton, and Rudolph Nureyev to mention but a few. Companies he has danced with includes The , , Netherlands Dance Theatre, and . In 1996 Matz was appointed Artistic Director of the . From 2001 to 2005 he was Artistic Director of English National Ballet. Since 2006 Matz is pursuing a freelance career as international guest teacher and artistic consultant. Recent guest teaching engagements include Studio Wayne McGregor, the Royal Ballet, New English Ballet Theatre, Junior Ballet Antwerp, , and as Classical Ballet Instructor on the film set of Cats. In addition Matz is a certified Executive Coach and Mentor, accredited by the UK Institute of Leadership and Management, and in this capacity he is working with a wide variety of clients both within the performing arts and with other businesses professionals. MIKAELA POLLEY Mikaela Polley is a UK based Rehearsal Director, Choreographer, Teacher and Mentor with a per-formance and creative career spanning 30 years. Classically trained at The Royal Ballet Upper School Mikaela rose to the rank of Soloist at Bir- mingham Royal Ballet (BRB) before joining Rambert in 2001. She has performed across an extensive array of large-scale classical and contemporary repertory from renowned choreographers such as Sir Fredrick Ashton, Sir Kenneth MacMillan, , Jiri Kylian, , Twlya Tharp, Wayne McGregor, Christopher Bruce, Merce Cunningham and Rafael Bonachela amongst others and has toured extensively worldwide. Between 2008 - 2018 Mikaela worked as Senior Rehearsal Director at Rambert, coaching and as-sisting across a diverse range of repertoire and regularly teaching classical technique to the com-pany dancers. Teaching both classical and contemporary technique Mikaela now works across a variety of com-panies and vocational schools. Credits include Gothenburg Danskompani (Sweden), Company Na- nine Linning (The Netherlands), Michael Clark Company, Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures, Company Wayne McGregor, Debra Colker Company (Brasil), London Contemporary Dance School, Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance, Central School of Ballet, Elmhurst and Tring Park School for the Performing Arts. Mikaela has also created a body of over 20 works which have been performed by dancers from Rambert and and commissioned by Images Ballet Company, Encore Dance, Ballet Central, Royal Opera House 2, Resolution, The Royal Ballet School, English National Ballet School and Elmhurst School of Ballet. In 2019 she also took over the role of Choreographic Course Coordi- nator and Tutor at the Royal Ballet Upper School.

RAYMOND CHAI Choreographer, international and teacher. Lecturer in Dance, London Contemporary Dance School. Choreographic commissions include , National Ballet of Portugal, Sommer Tanz Fest (Switzerland), Na- tional Ballet School (Slovenia), Staatsteater Karlsruhe (Germany), BBC (UK), Ballet Black (Royal Opera House, London) and YourMove Contemporary Dance Festival (New Jersey, USA), Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts, DanceSpace Malaysia. REBECCA SCHEINBERG Rebecca was born in Sydney, Australia. She graduated from Central School of Ballet, receiving a First Class Ba. (Hons) in Dance and Performance. On completion of her studies in 2008, Rebecca travelled to Israel to dance with Batsheva Ensemble. She also participated in the joint project of Riksteatern and Batsheva Dance Company in Sweden, performing ’s Kamuyot. Rebecca has been teaching Gaga since 2009. She regularly teaches in the UK and abroad, and has taught at Greenwich Dance, Danceworks, Tripspace, Fourth Monkey, Siobhan Davies Dance, National Dance Compa- ny Wales, Rambert and The Place. Since 2011 Rebecca has been a photographer, working editorially and commercially in London, UK.
