This adoption and appropriation of Jewish culture can be fit into three phases. The first phase regarded Jewish religion and philosophy. From the eighth century to the thirteenth century, Christians borrowed Jewish religious exegesis and beliefs in order to expand their own understanding of Christian religious texts. -

I am Senator Tom Brewer from Gordon, Nebraska, representing the 43rd Legislative District. I serve as the Chair of this committee. Because of the COVID situation, we're going to go through a number of COVID specific things and then we'll get into the Government Committee intro here. For the safety of our committee members, staff, pages, and the public, we ask those attending our hearing to abide by the following procedures. Due to social distancing requirements, seating in the hearing room is limited, very limited. We ask that you only enter the hearing room when it is necessary for you to attend your hearing. The bills will be taken up as posted outside the hearing on the wall. The list will be updated after each hearing to identify which bill is the current bill up, so the number will be up there and then the pages will then post outside. The committees will pause between each bill to allow enough time for the public to move in and move out. Keep in mind that after each testifier, we'll need a slight delay in order to clean the table, clean the chair. So just understand we'll have some pauses. But those pauses are not for senators to start talking because the mikes will be on and it will still be getting recorded. -

ABSTRACT This study examined the extent to which the use of cooperative learning in the Islamic Saudi Academy (ISA) in Washington, DC had an impact on the reading performance of grade four and five students in the standard reading curriculum. The ISA is a bilingual English-Arabic school with dual American and Saudi Arabian curricula. The Arabic language arts (including reading) and religion curricula follow the Saudi Arabian education system, while the remaining curricula such as math and science reflect the American education system. The study used a quasi-experimental design. Four groups of ISA male students participated in the study: two fourth grade classes, and two fifth grade classes. The researcher developed and administered pre- and post-measures for reading performance, which designed vocabulary, reading comprehension, and fluency. -

The Muslim-American Muddle
The Muslim-American Muddle Peter Skerry decade after 9/11, America has reached a political and in- A tellectual stalemate regarding the Muslims in its midst. Many Americans continue to fear their Muslim neighbors and fellow citizens, if not as potential terrorists then as terrorist sympathizers — or, more generally, as the bearers of an alien culture shared by America’s enemies. Stoking these fears are a handful of zealous investigative journal- ists and bloggers who recycle a body of facts about the Islamist origins of most Muslim leaders and of virtually all major American Muslim organizations. Largely taken from the federal government’s successful prosecution of the Holy Land Foundation, a Hamas front group, this evidence is incontrovertible — yet its implications are far from clear. As critics repeat and re-examine them, the facts take on a frozen-in- time quality, like artifacts of political archeology never put into any wider context. The critics fail to acknowledge that individuals who once espoused Islamist views do not necessarily remain committed to them over time. People do mature beyond youthful folly and rage, and America causes immigrants to change. On the other hand, our political, media, and intellectual elites rou- tinely dismiss these findings as irrelevant ancient history. This, too, is a mistake, both substantively and politically: Though these Muslim leaders and organizations do not represent all (or even most) Muslim Americans, they do dominate the relevant political space. Moreover, their Islamist ideology has had, and continues to have, a formative influ- ence on how Muslims think of their place in America and of America’s relationship to the Islamic world. -

INTRODUCTION Ancient religious law continues to influence the laws of many na- tions, especially Israel and Saudi Arabia where the laws are often explic- itly taken from religious legal systems.1 Israel and Saudi Arabia continue to use ancient laws and precepts that are of dubious value in the twentieth century.2 Aside from the purely personal issue of the religious justification for the use of religious law, use of religious law creates many problems for the governments of Saudi Arabia and Israel. Further, the use of religious law infringes on the basic civil liberties of freedom "of" and "from" religion: Are the people of Saudi Arabia and Israel being denied the inalienable right of freedom from religion?3 As a result of Saudi Arabia and Israel's use of religious law, the two states experience many of the same difficulties and some of the same ben- efits. -

The reason is, they want to rip the 50th star off the American flag and return Hawaii to its former status as an independent nation. And through this resolution they want to enlist you legislators as collaborators in their treasonous propaganda campaign. The strongest evidence that this is their motive is easy to see in the "whereas" clauses of this resolution and in documents provided by the NEA and the HSTA which are filled with historical falsehoods trashing the alleged U.S. "invasion" and "occupation" of Hawaii; alleged HCR179, HR148 Page !1 of !10 Conklin HSE EDN 031821 suppression of Hawaiian language and culture; and civics curriculum in the early Territorial period. Portraying Native Hawaiians as victims of colonial oppression and/or belligerent military occupation is designed to bolster demands to "give Hawaii back to the Hawaiians", thereby producing a race-supremacist government and turning the other 80% of Hawaii's people into second-class citizens. -

THE STATE OF CURRICULAR REFORM IN THE KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA JUNE 2012 INTERNATIONAL CENTER FOR RELIGION & DIPLOMACY INTERNATIONAL CENTER FOR RELIGION & DIPLOMACY WASHINGTON DC COVER PHOTO COURTESY OF AL JAZEERA ENGLISH THE STATE OF CURRICULUM REFORM IN THE KINGDOM OF SA UDI ARABIA EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is making measurable progress in reforming its textbook content, but still has much to do. Before assessing the current status of this effort and the way ahead, a look at the context in which these reforms are taking place is very much in order. Background Recent education reform in Saudi Arabia began in the shadow of tragedy. The public outcry inspired by the 2002 Meccan girls’ school firei led to the abolishment of the General Presidency for Girls’ Education dominated by the conservative religious establishment and a transfer of the responsibility for girls’ education to the Ministry of Education.ii Later that year, the royal advisory council – the Shura Council – recommended a new national strategy on technical and vocational education, finally addressing Saudi business’ complaints about the lack of qualified Saudi applicants for jobs.iii Reform priorities changed again after May 2003, when an al-Qaeda-led wave of terror attacks rocked the country. National Dialogue Forums convened by then-Crown Prince Abdullah featured expert testimony in December of 2003 that the Kingdom’s Islamic curriculum “encourages violence towards others.” This precipitated the first steps toward meaningful reform, intended to excise some of the more controversial passages from Saudi textbooks.iv Parallel to these efforts, Saudi de-radicalization programs were initiated in 2004.
