10 Book Reviews from Borzoi Books This morning the sun poured into the office for an hour or so - long enough to lift spirits and generate a positive burst of pre-print energy’. British Summer Time is waiting is in the wings, just an hour ahead, on 1st April. 14 Crossword Mothering Sunday poems - we received a number of poems to forward to 17 Local Authority Information, Blood Donor our judges, who were delighted to read this unique collection of ‘HUG - style’ Sessions, Community Notices poems. They came back to us with thoughtful and experienced feedback and two outstanding winners – see p16. Thank you to all our poets for sharing their 18 Local Elections ‘hugs’, and to our judges for their wise words. For over a week the office has been busy with local election issues, mostly 18&22 District Council traffic and parking but I’m sure that other ‘highlights’ will spark a few lively conversations this month! Local elections take place every four years and often 19&21 pass without much fuss, leaving the town or parish short of elected councillors Correspondence to fulfil the important role of councillors. Local councils have a variety of powers and duties which impact directly on the community, including allotments, parks, 20 Planning burial grounds, memorials, bye-laws and boundaries, as well as working with Highways on roads, street lighting and parking, and with District on tourism and planning. A number of these will be key to our communities over the next four 22&32 39-41 Community years. Whether you stand as a candidate or not, you can be involved - by going along to council and/ or committee meetings. Highwaymen, Horses and Hills – Thursday 4 April – Moderate Rissington. Our return leg provides views over the North Cotswolds. Three Churches and a River – Saturday 20 April It’s a hilly walk with much to see along the way. Bring a packed lunch. 5.5 hours: 11 miles. Five units that make up Cotswold North Division Rainbows met on 2nd March to celebrate World Thinking Day. Travelling back in time to when Girlguiding began, in a time machine they built from cardboard boxes and recycled materials, they learned about the history of Rainbows. Apprentice shoemaker George Paish has won a prestigious accolade just fi ve months after joining Bill Bird Shoes in Blockley.
The 26 year old from Moreton in Marsh was named winner of the 2019 David Xavier Student Bespoke Shoemaking Award with his leather Derby boots with suede and zip detailing – the fi rst he has ever made. Beating off stiff competition George said, “I am delighted to have won. I chose the design, as I wanted to create something different and eye catching. As the boots were made to my measurements I was able to experience the whole shoemaking process from both a client and maker’s perspective.”
