  • Cinemeducation Movies Have Long Been Utilized to Highlight Varied
Cinemeducation Movies have long been utilized to highlight varied areas in the field of psychiatry, including the role of the psychiatrist, issues in medical ethics, and the stigma toward people with mental illness. Furthermore, courses designed to teach psychopathology to trainees have traditionally used examples from art and literature to emphasize major teaching points. The integration of creative methods to teach psychiatry residents is essential as course directors are met with the challenge of captivating trainees with increasing demands on time and resources. Teachers must continue to strive to create learning environments that give residents opportunities to apply, analyze, synthesize, and evaluate information (1). To reach this goal, the use of film for teaching may have advantages over traditional didactics. Films are efficient, as they present a controlled patient scenario that can be used repeatedly from year to year. Psychiatry residency curricula that have incorporated viewing contemporary films were found to be useful and enjoyable pertaining to the field of psychiatry in general (2) as well as specific issues within psychiatry, such as acculturation (3). The construction of a formal movie club has also been shown to be a novel way to teach psychiatry residents various aspects of psychiatry (4). Introducing REDRUMTM Building on Kalra et al. (4), we created REDRUMTM (Reviewing [Mental] Disorders with a Reverent Understanding of the Macabre), a Psychopathology curriculum for PGY-1 and -2 residents at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. REDRUMTM teaches topics in mental illnesses by use of the horror genre. We chose this genre in part because of its immense popularity; the tropes that are portrayed resonate with people at an unconscious level.

SILENCIO: THE SPECTRAL VOICE AND 9/11 Lloyd Isaac Vayo A Dissertation Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY August 2010 Committee: Ellen Berry, Advisor Eileen C. Cherry Chandler Graduate Faculty Representative Cynthia Baron Don McQuarie © 2010 Lloyd Isaac Vayo All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Ellen Berry, Advisor “Silencio: The Spectral Voice and 9/11” intervenes in predominantly visual discourses of 9/11 to assert the essential nature of sound, particularly the recorded voices of the hijackers, to narratives of the event. The dissertation traces a personal journey through a selection of objects in an effort to seek a truth of the event. This truth challenges accepted narrativity, in which the U.S. is an innocent victim and the hijackers are pure evil, with extra-accepted narrativity, where the additional import of the hijacker’s voices expand and complicate existing accounts. In the first section, a trajectory is drawn from the visual to the aural, from the whole to the fragmentary, and from the professional to the amateur. The section starts with films focused on United Airlines Flight 93, The Flight That Fought Back, Flight 93, and United 93, continuing to a broader documentary about 9/11 and its context, National Geographic: Inside 9/11, and concluding with a look at two YouTube shorts portraying carjackings, “The Long Afternoon” and “Demon Ride.” Though the films and the documentary attempt to reattach the acousmatic hijacker voice to a visual referent as a means of stabilizing its meaning, that voice is not so easily fixed, and instead gains force with each iteration, exceeding the event and coming from the past to inhabit everyday scenarios like the carjackings.

  • Rock Album Discography Last Up-Date: September 27Th, 2021
Rock Album Discography Last up-date: September 27th, 2021 Rock Album Discography “Music was my first love, and it will be my last” was the first line of the virteous song “Music” on the album “Rebel”, which was produced by Alan Parson, sung by John Miles, and released I n 1976. From my point of view, there is no other citation, which more properly expresses the emotional impact of music to human beings. People come and go, but music remains forever, since acoustic waves are not bound to matter like monuments, paintings, or sculptures. In contrast, music as sound in general is transmitted by matter vibrations and can be reproduced independent of space and time. In this way, music is able to connect humans from the earliest high cultures to people of our present societies all over the world. Music is indeed a universal language and likely not restricted to our planetary society. The importance of music to the human society is also underlined by the Voyager mission: Both Voyager spacecrafts, which were launched at August 20th and September 05th, 1977, are bound for the stars, now, after their visits to the outer planets of our solar system (mission status: https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status/). They carry a gold- plated copper phonograph record, which comprises 90 minutes of music selected from all cultures next to sounds, spoken messages, and images from our planet Earth. There is rather little hope that any extraterrestrial form of life will ever come along the Voyager spacecrafts. But if this is yet going to happen they are likely able to understand the sound of music from these records at least.

Read Ebook {PDF EPUB} Mental Hygiene Better Living Through Classroom Films 1945-1970 by Ken Smith Mental Hygiene: Better Living Through Classroom Films 1945-1970 by Ken Smith. An often effective but critically oversold low-budget shocker that’s mostly hypnotic. and frequently gimcrack goofy. The Criterion Collection has released on Blu-ray CARNIVAL OF SOULS, the 1962 indie supernatural ghost story originally released by Herts-Lion International Corp., directed by Herk Harvey, written by John Clifford, and starring Candace Hilligoss, Frances Feist, Sidney Berger, Art Ellison Stan Levitt, Tom McGinnis, Bill De Jarnette, Pamela Ballard, and uncredited Herk Harvey as “The Man.” Conceived by Centron industrial shorts producers Harvey and Clifford as exploitation horror with a hoped-for art house sheen, CARNIVAL OF SOULS was buried on a third-rate drive-in double bill in ‘62, where it promptly disappeared. However, a devoted cult following grew (due to public domain showings on late-night TV), and in 1989, it was “rediscovered”. It’s spookily evocative on the whole, and a definite must-see for fans interested in the evolution of the ghost/zombie horror subgenre. Criterion has upped the game for this Blu release with a new, scintillating 4K transfer (although an on-screen blurb in one of the tab descriptions states it’s 2K—maybe a leftover menu detail from their previous release?), a new interview with Dana Gould (fun) and a new “video essay” by David Cairns, along with all the ported-over extras from the previous Criterion edition. except for the longer director’s cut. Pretty blonde Mary Henry (Candace Hilligoss, THE CURSE OF THE LIVING CORPSE) goes for a joy ride with a couple of her female friends when some punks challenge them to a drag race.

Murphy Trinity College Dublin This article argues that Carnival of Souls (1962), is a foundational text in the ‘Highway Horror’ sub- genre. It directly confronts one of the most pervasive taboos in modern American life: the horrific death toll associated with mass automobility. In Herk Harvey’s cult film, the protagonist is killed but finds herself unwilling to accept her fate. As in the many similar films that followed, the highway becomes a purgatorial space between life and death. The blindness of the protagonists is linked to society’s collective willingness to overlook (or tolerate) the devastating frequency of the fatal car crash.

In 1962, he produced and directed his first and only feature film: a low-budget horror film starring Candace Hilligoss entitled Carnival of Souls. Since its initial release and failure at the box office, Carnival of Souls has become a cult classic; it is one of those films that surfaces at film festivals or on late-night Halloween TV-specials every now and then. Accompanied by a new, frenzied, original score composed and performed live by Invaders (a duo created solely to work on Carnival of Souls), the screening in La Rochelle turned out to be a full-blown sensory experience.
