~ 6 ~ When 4 wheels are too many!

An Austrian collector sold off his incredible collection of vintage scooters at auction. ‘Decades of scooter history unwound before our very eyes,’ said an auction house representative at the Dorotheum in Austria. The auction was held on Friday, April 6th, and starting bids were very tempting, ranging from 50 to 500 Euros. Bidders were able to snatch up everything from a baby blue Labretta, to the very first Innocenti scooter!

~ 13 ~ Qld Air Museum – Sunday 15 April

We had a total of 41 Members and friends arrive on a sunny, warm morning at the Air Museum. The museum provided perfect parking spaces beside the external plane displays and also allowed us to sit under the wings of the aircraft in Hanger 2 for morning tea. It was very pleasant. A most informative 2-hour tour was given by 2 guides, who gave us the history and antidotes of many craft as we moved amongst the exhibits. We all agreed it is an amazing collection of planes. The museum is run purely by volunteers and the acquisition, restoration and conservation of exhibits are entirely self-funded through visitor’s fees, unique events and member’s contributions. My favourite exhibits were the following:  The F-111 Jet. 24 first ordered by Sir Robert Menzies in 1963 and delivered in 1973. In 2013 this jet arrived at Caloundra Air Museum, one of 7 which are owned and on loan from the Australian Air Force. In total 45 were imported to Australia, 8 were lost in accidents and 23 were interred (buried) at the Swanbank Burial Site near Ipswich. To find out where the others are, please go to the QAM web site for more info.  Douglas DC3 – over 80 years old, first used by KLM in Holland. Used during the 2nd world war by General MacArthur, purchased by ANA and Airlines of NSW. Air Museum procured the plane in 1994.  Westland Wessex Helicopter with huge rotary blades and looking like a large dragon fly! This one is on loan from the Fleet Air Arm Museum Nowra.  DE Havilland Canada Caribou A4-173, I liked this one because of its shape and our guide flew it in Vietnam, New Guinea and Australia. First Delivered to Vietnam in 1964 and the last operation was in 1972. Two serious accidents in Vietnam saw it returned to Australia wearing a replacement Right Wing bearing the marking ‘US Army’. In 1974 it was sent to Darwin after Cyclone Tracy, and then stationed at Townsville. Purchased by the Queensland Air Museum in 2001.

After our visit to the Air Museum, lunch was really lovely at the Caloundra Power Boat Club not far up the road, where we sat on the deck overlooking Pumicestone Passage with a cooling breeze. It was very comfortable and enjoyable, most members left around 3pm! Annie Jennings

This car had had extensive renovation, body parts removed for repaint, but not body off chassis, I have heaps of pics showing the progress. There was no rust anywhere, all original parts were sourced in the rebuild, new wheels, the chrome bits were re-chromed, the upholstery is original and in very good condition.

It has full covers, the only real damage is to the very corner of the roof cover, it has a little tear. We’ve hardly ever had the roof up. Engine, transmission and brakes have been refurbished. It is one of only a handful that came to Australia fully assembled and has the Abingdon factory I.D. plate to confirm. For additional information please call Dave:  0438 351 199

APOLOGIES: Jeff Fisher, Julie Dickson, Michelle Mugliett, Max Parnell, Carol Croucher

Acceptance of the Minutes of last Meeting of 21 March 2018:

MOVED: Peter Quinn SECONDED: Mike Rider

Business Arising from Minutes – Nil

CORRESPONDENCE: 11 items circulated to committee. Business Arising from Correspondence: Nil Correspondence acceptance: MOVED: Allan Ryan SECONDED: Mike Rider

Committee Position:

MEMBERSHIP OFFICER – Carol Croucher has been appointed as Membership Officer.

CONCESSIONAL REGISTRATION OFFICER – Peter Quinn has been appointed as Concessional Registration Officer.

REPORTS: PRESIDENT’S REPORT – Mike Rider I have pretty much spent the last month continuing to work on previous issues. I thank the committee for their ongoing support shown to the Executive. I must inform the committee that a number of office holders who resigned their positions have not been able or not willing to give their replacements a ‘handover’. There are also a number of documents, files etc. ‘missing’.

I regret to have to announce the following resignations. Graeme Adams from Membership + his other roles, on April 12th. Julie Dickson is unable to continue to edit ‘Classic Lines’ after the next edition, being May. I am pleased to announce that Carol Croucher has taken over as Membership Officer, by a unanimous vote of the executive conducted by email on April 15th.

I would like to thank all the club members who have expressed their support in our efforts.

~ 31 ~ Website A work in progress. Issues are being resolved as they appear. Still a long way to go. We have had a number of members & non- members express an interest in the Webmaster position. This is under consideration. I would like to thank Paul at AIS for his ongoing support, he has been incredibly helpful & understanding & so far no additional costs. The Car show entry & enquiry issues have now been fixed & I think Dave is happy with it. The Hill Climb has no issues at this point. The Membership system is now being implemented & Carol is quite happy with the new system. This system ‘Membership Pro’ is a commonly used data base for clubs & as such it is very easy to resolve any issue that may appear. It is a good mature product that offers support if required. Unfortunately there is a gap from the time of the implementation of the new website to last week when Carol took over that needs to be updated. Carol is working on this with Randall & hopefully this will be fixed soon.

Email System These issues are now largely resolved. Most of the multitude of web addresses are no longer being used. This has resulted in far more privacy & the lessening of emails going to unintended recipients. We can set up some of these again if there is a demand or desire to do so. There have been a number of ‘mail outs’ to all members, it all works well.

VICE-PRESIDENT’S REPORT – Greg Croucher Clubrooms – I had a meeting with a Council representative regarding guttering and water leak outside the clubrooms. This is a Navy Cadets problem not ours as they hold the head lease. Council are looking at doing upgrades to their leased buildings in the Noosa area and the clubrooms may be included. Council advised that they are in negotiations with the Cricket Club about water usage at the grounds and how much they should be contributing towards the amount used. The result should be that they pay a large percentage of the water used. Clubrooms Car Park – The Council have advised that they are looking at upgrading the car park outside the clubrooms. Permits – Permits for traffic control for the Classic Car Show and the Winter Hillclimb are under way and we are waiting for a reply from one of the traffic controllers so that we can finalise the plan for traffic flow at these events. Mowing at clubrooms – We’re wanting to draw up a roster for mowing at the clubrooms so that this doesn’t fall on one person all the time. Prior to a change in Navy Cadets management, the Navy Cadets were doing it, but it has become our responsibility. Please contact me if you’re prepared to be included on the roster. Committee meetings - I’ve been asked why we intend using other venues for some of our committee meetings. This is because some of our Sponsors have noted that we’re no longer having meetings at their venues. If we wish to keep their sponsorship and support for our events, I feel it’d be wise to have some of our meetings at sponsors’ venues.

~ 36 ~ Classic Lines Printed Version – Progress Report

At the March General Meeting an overwhelming response was given to the suggestion that we revisit a printed version of our Club Magazine. A Cost Benefit Analysis is in progress with quotations being requested for the printing of 200 Magazines in full colour and A4 size. We are proposing a bi-monthly issue rather than monthly which will reduce our Editor’s preparation time and lower the printing costs. We believe members would appreciate a higher quality magazine every two months rather than an economic A5 version monthly. The electronic version will still be available to all members as usual. The NBCCC is a reputable Car Club with a distinguished record in the industry and need a product which members and sponsors will be proud to be part of. The programmes produced by the Hill and Classic Management last year were very well presented and of excellent quality and graphically represented the professionalism of the NBCCC. We will keep you updated on our progress. Allan Treasurer

Resolution To Restore Partner’s Voting Rights

Management are pleased to advise that a Resolution was presented and passed unanimously by the Management Committee to restore present and past Partners to their rightful status with all the privileges of membership. This corrects an administrative error on the Membership Application Form which now reads Member 1 and Member 2 rather than Member & Partner. Our data base is to be amended such that Member 2 (was partner) can nominate their own email address to receive bulletins and notices if they wish. Allan Treasurer
