Its Labor day weekend and I am having dinner with my family. The conversation is very different. My son and daughter are talking about University! THE ! Yes my Alma Mater. My wife’s Alma Mater too. My son just completed his first year and my daughter will now join him as a freshman. An added bonus is the University is celebrating its 50th year.

The University of Windsor is a great institution. I do not think it gets the recognition it deserves. It’s not like some of the other prestigious high profile universities in the province. But it has produced some great professionals including my wife who has become a Nurse Practitioner. I have met many lawyers and accountants in our industry that have attended my mighty U. The University of Windsor is growing in leaps and bounds. It has an international presence as it is located near the Detroit River and Ambassador bridge. We have a new state of the art engineering building. A new Arts building will open in the downtown area which will revitalize the Windsor core and neighborhood. How about our Ladies basketball team – 3 national titles in a row! I am very proud to be a grad.

When I completed my CIP I did not think it was a big deal at the time. However now that I give it more thought it really should be. The irony is that I used all my bonus money from my employer for completing my Insurance Institute certificates to pay off the remainder of my student loan from the University!

Everyone working in our industry should have completed or be enrolled in the CIP program. It can be argued that in our industry achieving your CIP is more valuable than a university The IIO - Southewestern Chapter would degree. In a recent article in the Windsor Star, retired school of business professor Dr. Alfie like to thank the companies who assisted Morgan criticized students for taking courses such as Criminology, Political Science, Forensics with our fundraising for the new furniture: and History. He felt it would not lead to a career. I think a degree in any discipline completed is better than none. The CIP can complement your under graduate degree and give you the credentials to really be successful in our industry and be a true professional.

Go Blue and Gold!
