Lots of our clubs also break during the summer but W. I. and Gardening Club carry on all year round. Great to see some many actors and actresses in Motcombe - do try and pop along to see Abigail’s Party - the scenery certainly brings back memories of the 70’s!! We are a bit concerned that people in the local community are not aware of the proposed changes to the status of the Westminster Memorial Hospital. This is our local community hospital serving Shaftesbury, Gillingham and the surrounding areas. It provides inpatient facilities providing rehabilitation and palliative care for local patients. There is a dedicated nursing and therapy team providing personalised care to sometimes the most vulnerable in our community. The clinical commissioning group are proposing the closure of these inpatient beds and the public need to be well informed. Please visit www.dorsetvision.nhs.uk to have your say, and please share this post. http://www.dorsetsvision.nhs.uk/ Our back page carries a transcript of a recent BBC News story on this topic. Articles can be handed to Gail or Mike or delivered to the following:Winters Grace, Elm Hill, Motcombe or e-mail [email protected] telephone 01747 850865 or Motcombe Community Shop, or Tanders, Elm Hill Motcombe (852545 ) Motcombe Gardening Club Our talk in June by Stephen Griffith (best known as Head Gardener at Abbotsbury Gardens) about the Coastal Plants and Gardens of Croatia, with photographs to set the scene and show off some of the plants, was very interesting and much enjoyed by everyone.

The Villager Edition 284 October 2020 Usually at this time we would be planning for the Villager Coffee Morning but with the Covid regulations we are not able to hold the event this year - so very disappointing! This is the only fund raising event we hold to keep production running and we would be very grateful if any readers would like to make a donation - email [email protected] for donation points. Thank you for your support. Lots of groups and classes are now back in the Hall so we have included the timetable of regular events - but please be aware these could change if the Covid guidelines are altered. Please ensure all articles are sent to the Villager inbox not any other email address as they can so easily be missed. Allistair served on the Parish Council for over eleven years as both a Councillor and Chairman. He was a larger-than-life character with a commanding presence, he used both humour and firmness to keep council meetings under control and working to time. Born in Herefordshire he was however a proud Orcadian, returning to Orkney as often as he could with his wife Anita.
