Crousey, counsel for the defendant Adam Patrick Christman, One E. Main Street, Amelia, Ohio 45102. This case came before the court for trial on January 20, 2015. At the conclusion of the trial, the court took the issues raised at trial under advisement. Upon consideration of the record of the proceeding, the evidence presented for the court’s consideration, the oral arguments of counsel, and the applicable law, the court now renders this written decision. The defendant is charged in a one-count indictment with Gross Sexual Imposition in violation of R.C. 2907.05(A)(1), a felony of the fourth degree. 1 FINDINGS OF FACT On June 11, 2014, Kimberly Barber took her daughter and the defendant Adam Christman’s son to vacation bible school. Around noon that day, Barber picked the two children up from the church and drove to the defendant’s house. The defendant’s son exited the car and ran inside the house, yelling to his father that he was home, and Barber followed him into the house. The defendant came from the hallway into the front room of the house and Barber handed the defendant his son’s papers from the bible school. Barber bent down and took off the VBS T-shirt the defendant’s son was wearing because Barber took the shirts to and from the church. -

The FACTS about the Sex Ed Mandate Bill SB 2128: “An Act Relative to Healthy Youth” This bill needlessly eliminates existing local controls over sex education curricula, exposing young children to inappropriate and offensive sexual material. There is simply NO NEED to change current law and force new standards on every school in the Commonwealth. Here’s how SB 2128 would work: 1. This is a MANDATE: According to SB 2128, every public or charter school “that offers a comprehensive sexual health education curriculum [which is the overwhelming majority of schools in MA] shall provide medically accurate, age-appropriate… education.” SB 2128 Section 1 (pg. 3, lines 37-39) (emphasis added) “Age appropriate” is vaguely defined to include the “developing cognitive, emotional and behavior capacity typical for the age or age group.” SB 2128 Section 1 (pg. 2, lines 29-31). “Medically accurate,” teachings need only be “supported by peer-reviewed research” and “if relevant, published in peer-reviewed journals.” SB 2128 Section 1 (pp. 2-3, lines 33-36) 2. BUREAUCRATS decide what is taught: The role of local parents and educators in deciding curricula is instead given to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (“DESE”). The commissioner of DESE is granted authority “to update the health curriculum framework…” SB 2128, Sec. 2 (pg 4, lines 67-70). Current law, developed in the late 1990s, allowed parents, educators and legislators to review the frameworks. Under this bill, DESE can rewrite the standards unilaterally AFTER SB 2128 is passed, effectively mandating a sex ed program that doesn’t even exist yet! 3. -

Consultation on Ministry To and With Youth Summary Report August 2007 Greetings! Since October 2004, when the UUA Board of Trustees called for the Consultation on Ministry To and With Youth, we have engaged thousands of Unitarian Universalists. Youth have dialogued with their peers and in intergenerational groups about their hopes for youth ministry. Surveys, congregational conversations, district gatherings, and conversations with numerous stakeholders and UU communities have taken place. The key findings gathered in these steps are included in this packet. As the Task Force on Youth Ministry met, worked closely with districts and stakeholders across the Association, and designed the Summit on Youth Ministry, we consistently revisited our visions for youth ministry and sought to incorporate what we learned from the wisdom of Unitarian Universalists throughout the Association. These visions have continued to shape our thinking and were crucial to the Summit on Youth Ministry. We would like to share them with you here: Strong and healthy youth self-identity: Communities encourage youth to explore and develop their faith and to grow spiritually. Love and sharing among youth and adults: Congregations are intergenerational communities that play important roles in the lives of youth. Sense of belonging, freedom, and responsibility: Youth are welcomed, supported, and given a voice in their congregations and in the Association. Youth are in community with their peers and integrated in Unitarian Universalist communities. Adults and youth practice forgiveness and learn from their mistakes as well as from each other. Purpose and choice: Youth are able to fundamentally transform congregations and the larger world by practicing and living out their faith. -

The prevailing androcentric model of sex focuses on the promotion of male pleasure, specifically ejaculation, a necessary component of reproduction. Women’s pleasure and biological reproduction is then either completely misconstrued or construed to be an accessory to the same reproductive acts. At one point in time, the belief was that both the man and woman had to orgasm to successful produce a child; moreover, the one-sex and the androcentric model combined has allowed psychologists and biologists to conceptualize women’s sexual anatomy as reciprocal to men’s. -

Summit on Youth Ministry Report July 16–20, 2007 Simmons College Boston, Massachusetts Greetings! We are delighted to share with you a new imagination of Unitarian Universalist youth ministry and multigenerational faith community. This vision comes from a diverse group of youth and adult stakeholders who gathered at Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts, for the Summit on Youth Ministry. Our task was to imagine and shape a youth ministry that serves all Unitarian Universalist youth. Our work was grounded in the two-year Consultation on Ministry To and With Youth, a process that engaged more than five thousand Unitarian Universalists in conversations about the role and direction of youth ministry in our Association. Thousands of Unitarian Universalists have contributed to this new vision. We envision a youth ministry that is central to the articulated mission of Unitarian Universalism, offers multiple pathways for involvement in our faith communities, and is congregationally based; multigenerational; spirit-centered; counter-oppressive, multicultural, and radically inclusive. Numerous factors impact our ability to serve the members of our congregations. Our programming, worship, social justice work, and resources work for some, but do not effectively minister to and with all Unitarian Universalists. The issues facing youth ministry reflect the forces and trends affecting our movement as a whole. This report offers recommendations for strengthening and broadening our ministry throughout our faith communities. The publication of this report does not mark the end of a process. It marks a beginning. Now is the time to create the ministry our youth deserve. REVISED: January 9, 2011 1 Synopsis Sexuality education comprises the lifelong intentional processes by which people learn about themselves and others as sexual, gendered beings from biological, psychological and socio-cultural perspectives. It takes place through a potentially wide range of programs and activities in schools, community settings, religious centers, as well as informally within families, among peers, and through electronic and other media. Sexuality education for adolescents occurs in the context of the biological, cognitive, and social-emotional developmental progressions and issues of adolescence. Formal sexuality education falls into two main categories: behavior change approaches, which are represented by abstinence-only and abstinence-plus models, and healthy sexual development approaches, represented by comprehensive sexuality education models. Evaluations of program effectiveness, largely based on the outcomes of behavior change models, provide strong evidence that abstinence-only programs are ineffective, and mixed
