Newsletter 13 2020 NewsWednesday 23letter September 2020 13 Kia ora whānau This afternoon we have sent home the Term 4 calendar for your fridge. On the back is a description of the different events, and which year level will be involved. Fingers Upcoming crossed we can get through a whole term without rescheduling and cancelling! Events Also going home this afternoon is the calendar art order form. The children have been working very hard on their art for this and the results are stunning. You can Term 3 order either a calendar, diary, or set of cards via School Shop. The closing date for this is Friday 16th October (Week 1). This will give us a chance to sort and send the Last Day of Term 3 art so that you have it back early enough to send overseas as Christmas presents. Friday 25 September 3pm finish We had the team from Tree Tech in today to prune the large trees that overhang the astro-turf, in preparation for our new astro-turf which will be installed in a few Term 4 weeks. The children (and adults) were intrigued by the whole event. First Day of Term 4 Lost property will be sorted and donated at the end of this week, so please take the Monday 12 October time to look through this before then. Ag Day On Friday we will be meeting in the hall at 2:30pm to sing a few songs, present some Saturday 7 November netball certificates, listen to the amazing speeches from Arthur and Lilly, and say a Last Day of Term big farewell to Mr Drummond. With such an exciting term coming to end it is nice to share some of the Fairy Tale learning we have done this term since we have not been able to have you in the classroom to show you. We read, retold and acted out many fairy tales. We grew beans when we read Jack and the Beanstalk. Made gingerbread men to eat. Designed and made bridges inspired by the Three Billy Goats Gruff. We Huffed and Puffed different materials around like the Big Bad Wolf using our own breath or hairdryer power. We have finished the term up with making Dioramas about our favourite fairy tale. Here are just a few. We also rewrote a different ending to the Gingerbread Man story, and created and wrote some encouragement for Gerald, the giraffe who couldn’t dance. Sports News Katikati Cricket Club Katikati Cricket invites registrations for the 2020/21 season for all juniors from Year 3 to Year 13 who wish to play Saturday cricket in Term 4 and Term 1. We are also looking to form an Intermediate Girls Cricket team this year. We require another 5 girls from Year 6 through to Yyear 9. There is $15 per child a cost of $20 per player that has to be paid to Katikati Mondays - 2nd November – 7th December 2020 Hockey, either cash or into their bank account. There is a mixed Grade and a single gender Boys/ Girls Years 5-8, Mixed grade Years 1-8 When: Tuesdays’ starting 20th/10 to 1st/12 (total 7 We will be making up teams when we see how many weeks) children want to play. Where: Multi-purpose Astro-turf back field Katikati College What: 6 aside hockey competition Floorball Term 4 What divisions: All teams’ must have at least 2 beginners Trustpower Arena or new players to hockey.     November 2016 Volume: 14 Issue: 09 Omokoroa Community Board Report by Murray Grainger Chairman The structure of the Omokoroa Community Board for the next triennium was ratified at the formal swearing in ceremony, held in Te Puke on 10th November. After all the newly elected Council and Community Board members were sworn in, a brief first meeting was held to appoint the Chairman and Deputy. I was elected as Chairman and Teresa Sage as Deputy along with Peter Presland and Derek Sage. We are joined by John Palmer and Margaret Murray-Benge, the Councillors appointed by the Mayor to work with us. John, of course, served on the Community Board before stepping up to Councillor level and Margaret has a wealth of experience at Councillor level. We are keen to engage with our community and it was made abundantly clear in our initial induction sessions that our new Mayor, Garry Webber, wants future plans for WBPDC to be led from the ground up, not the top down. To that end, we are exploring ways and means of making it easy for the residents and ratepayers of Omokoroa to engage and feel involved in what happens in the next three years and to steer the vision for the future of Omokoroa over the following 10 – 20 years. Although we may have a higher proportion of retirees than the national average, there are others here with commitments that make it hard for them to get along to meetings or to put in submissions etc. so we have created an online forum to assist.

    NewsWednesdayletter 29 July 2020 9 Upcoming Kia ora whānau Events It was wonderful seeing so many familiar faces at the Pahoia Markets Term 3 here at school on Sunday. There were lots of past students here who look like they have doubled in height! Book Week Monday 3 - Friday 7 August We are truly lucky to have such an amazing facility such as our hall and BOT Meeting Apata Room that can be used for large community events like the Monday 3 August market. The market takes place on the last Sunday of every month, so if you didn’t get a chance to come to this one, August 30th is the next Book Fair date. The gym club that runs on Tuesday after school is also very well Tuesday 4 - Monday 11 August attended, with children from a wide variety of different schools coming here. We have the Science Roadshow using our hall for two days next Science Roadshow week, which gives us another opportunity to showcase our school and Wednesday 5 - Thursday 6 facilities.     NewsWednesdayletter 26 August 2020 11 Kia ora whānau Today, and tomorrow, we have the team from Road Safety here working with our Year 5 and 6 students on bike road safety. The Tuhua students have had some classroom time and then out on the turf, grass and then "the road" aka our carpark. As a rural community, so many of our children don't get the chance to Upcoming practise road safety so this is a fantastic opportunity for them, one that we will continue to be part of over the coming years. Events Building on our desire to become an even more community spirited school, our amazing Mrs Meder has been working her grant application magic again. This Term 3 time we are the lucky recipients of grants from NZ Community Trust and the Lion Teacher Only Day Foundation. This money has been approved to replace our nearly 15 year old School Closed astro turf. The turf area is well utilised during school time, after school and at Monday 31 August weekends by members of our community. The weather turned it on (second time around), and it was a great family day out. I would like to thank all of the volunteers that made this experience possible for our children. This is an Teacher Only Day opportunity to meet in the hall and talk about whole school initiatives, Monday 18 March communication, curriculum, how you can get involved at Pahoia School or anything that you would like clarified.
