He previously played for Lüneburger SK, VfL Osnabrück, SC Paderborn 07, Arminia Bielefeld, SV Werder Bremen, Borussia Dortmund and Hamburger SV II. He has been capped by Germany at international level and was a member of the squad at the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup. Club career Owomoyela, a right-sided defender/midfielder, began his career in lower league German football. In 2003, he made the step up to Arminia Bielefeld, then in the 2. Bundesliga.[2] Great performances for Bielefeld in the 2004–05 season earned Owomoyela interest from German top clubs, and in 2005, he joined SV Werder Bremen.[3] In his first season, Owomoyela was the undisputed starter at right back and helped Bremen reach second in the league. With the arrival of Clemens Fritz the following season, however, he lost his starting position due to injuries and bad displays. Owomoyela was finally transferred to Borussia Dortmund at the beginning of the 2008–09 season,[3] where he looked to reestablish himself in German top-flight football. International career Owomoyela debuted for Jürgen Klinsmann's national side in an Asian tour, playing 90 minutes in a 3–0 win over Japan, on 16 December 2004, in Yokohama.[4] He later was selected in the Bundestrainer's team for the Confederations Cup in 2005, but was unused there and was finally overlooked for Germany's World Cup final squad. Sylwia Klose ist seit 2003 die Ehefrau von Starstürmer Miroslav Klose, welche Klose einst im Fanshop des 1. FC Kaiserslautern kennen gelernt hat. Ursprünglich kommt sie aus Polen, wie Star-Fußballspieler Miroslav Klose, aber mit zwei Jahren ist sie nach Deutschland gekommen, und spricht mal Polnisch mal Deutsch. Das Liebespaar lebt in München und fühlt sich dort sehr wohl. Sylwia war schon hochschwanger und verfolgte das Spiel im VIP- Bereich des Weser-Stadions, als sie plötzlich von der einsetzenden Geburt überrascht und sofort ins Krankenhaus transportiert wurde. In Absprache mit Gattin und Trainer spielte Miroslav das Spiel zu Ende und unmittelbar nach Abpfiff, sprintete der Profi-Fußballer vom Feld um sich auf den Weg zu seiner Geliebten ins Bremer St. Joseph-Stift Krankenhaus, zu machen. Das Spital ist bei Familien der Werder-Profis ein beliebter Ort für Entbindungen: Hier kamen schon Kinder mehrerer Spieler auf die Welt, unter anderem der Nachwuchs von Marco Bode, Dieter Eilts, Claudio Pizarro, Oliver Reck und Rudi Völler. Große Freude bei Werder Bremen: Ehefrau Sylwia bekam Zwillinge, Sohn Noah (2400 Gramm) und Luan (2060 Gramm. „Wir sind überglücklich, alle sind wohlauf, ich bin froh, dass ich dabei war, es war ein überaus bewegender Moment für mich“, sprach der erleichterte Vater damals. Die Geburt der beiden stellte für Miroslav Klose den Höhepunkt eines turbulenten Abends dar. Sylwia zieht ihr Kinder bilingual auf, hier und da spricht sie polnisch mit ihnen. Als Haustier hat sich die Familie einen Dobermann zugelegt, in der Freizeit spielt die Familie gerne Tennis und die Eltern hören gerne Hip Hop. Bei der WM 2006 in Deutschland hat sie ihn sehr unterstützt. Jedoch ist das Verhältnis zwischen Spielerfrau Sylwia und ihren Schwiegereltern nicht unbedingt das Beste, so kann es schon vorkommen, dass Klose sein Trainingsprogramm unterbricht für einen Abstecher, um nach Hause zu fliegen um die Probleme aus der Welt zu schaffen. In den letzten Jahren kursierten schwerwiegende Gerüchte, dass Frau Klose ein außereheliches Verhältnis zu einem anderen Spieler, Patrick Owomoyela gehabt haben soll. Durch diese Lügen brach die für die Öffentlichkeit aufgebaute private Scheinwelt zusammen. Kloses Anwalt Burkhard Westerhoff sprach für die Familie, diese Gerüchte entsprachen nicht der Wahrheit auch der angebliche Liebhaber wehrt sich vehement gegen dieses Gerücht. Doch aus dieser Krise ging die Familie Klose nur gestärkter hervor. Könnte neben seinen Vertragspokern sicherlich ein Grund für seinen Leistungseinbruch sein. Ich halte das eher für ne ganz miese Stimmungsmache gegen ihn, was haltet ihr davon?!? was sollen wir davon halten? Meinste einer von uns war dabei und kanns bezeugen? Klose-Anwalt Burkhard Westerhoff ist über die abenteuerlichen Gerüchte unterrichtet, wonach Kloses Frau ein außereheliches Verhältnis zu einem anderen Spieler, namentlich Patrick Owomoyela, habe und sogar schwanger sei. Außerdem solle Miro Klose von daheim ausgezogen sein. Westerhoff zu BILD: „Diese Gerüchte entsprechen nicht der Wahrheit!“ Wer versucht Klose da zu verleumden? Ist das die Rache für seine Geheim-Verhandlungen mit Bayern? Auch Kloses Kumpel und Werder-Kollege Patrick Owomoyela wehrt sich vehement gegen die Unterstellungen. Owomoyela gestern zu BILD: „Ich habe Interesse daran zu erfahren, woher so etwas kommt. Es ist erstunken und erlogen. Eine Frechheit. Traurig, dass so etwas passiert. Schlimm, dass der Familie Klose so etwas angetan wird.“ Gut, dass mit den fiesen Gerüchten jetzt endlich aufgeräumt wurde. On the other hand, this research also represents my personal journey to understand better my role as a citizen, a man, a father and a husband, while covered by a given aura of otherness, always reminding me of my permanent foreignness in the country I decided to make my home. In this sense, this has been a personal journey to learn how to cope with my new ascribed identity as an alien (my ‘labelled forehead’) without losing my essence in the process, and without forgetting who I also am and have been. To overcome this challenge, we use data from professional soccer, where employees of the same club face different external career opportunities de- pending on their nationality. We test whether the career prospect of being selected to a Euro Cup national team affects players' pre-Cup performances, using nationals of countries that did not participate in the Euro Cup as a control group. We find that the Euro Cup career prospect has positive effects on the performances of play- ers with intermediate chances of being selected to their national team, but negative effects on the performances of players whose selection is very probable.

Economic theory predicts that agents’ e¤ort incentives in such contests depend non-monotonically on their anticipated winning chances, but empirical ev- idence is lacking. We use panel data to study soccer players’ responses to the (informal) nomination contests for being on a national team participating in the 2008 Euro Cup. The control group consists of players who work for the same clubs but are nationals of countries that did not participate in the Euro Cup. We …nd that nomination contest participation has substantial positive e¤ects on the perfor- mances of players with intermediate chances of being nominated for their national team. Players whose nomination is close to certain perform worse than otherwise, particularly in duels that carry a high injury risk. For players without any recent national team appearances, we …nd no signi…cant e¤ects.
