Brief Introduction to Speakers Brief introduction to speakers Name Expertise and Research interests Dr. Harvey Borovetz is a Distinguished Professor and former Chair (2002- 2013) in the Department of Bioengineering, Swanson School of Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh, the Robert L. Hardesty Professor in the Department of Surgery, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, a Professor of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering, a Professor – Clinical and Translational Science Institute and a University Honors College Faculty Fellow. In McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine, Dr. Borovetz holds Dr. Harvey Borovitz the position of Deputy Director of Artificial Organs and Medical Devices. Prof. Sonia Suchday is a clinical psychologist, chairperson of Department of Psychology, at Pace University. Prof. Suchday directs the The Heart, Mind, Spirit & The Globe Research Institute. Her work emphasizes the mind-body- spirit and culture connection and the impact of stress on the mental, physical, spiritual health of individuals; Beginning with her early studies on anger, her research incorporates effects of chronically stressful circumstances such as immigration, low socioeconomic status, resource-poor urban neighborhoods, Dr. Sonia Suchday and globalization anger and hostility. Prof. Kapur is a Senior Professor from Department of Biological Sciences at BITS Pilani Hyderabad campus. Her research interests are Genetic markers for vulnerability to chronic human diseases, screening strategies for low-cost settings, medical devices for field deployment in low resource settings and disease prevention through herbal/natural products. Prof. Kapur holds several patents, has published and/or edited several books, has published >200 peer- reviewed scientific articles, has delivered > 200 invited/keynote lectures and Dr. Suman Kapur has organized several scientific meetings, workshops and dedicated trainings. Dr. L.T. Kishore is a Radiologist in Gachibowli, Hyderabad and has an experience of 31 years in this field. Dr. L.T. Kishore practices at Continental Hospitals in Gachibowli, Hyderabad. He completed MD - Radio Diagnosis/Radiology from Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad in 1984,DNB - Radiotherapy from DNB board, New Delhi in 1986 and MBBS from Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad in 1981. Some of the services provided by the doctor are: Eye ultrasound, Radiotherapy, Angiography Radial Approach, Interventional Neuroradiology and Panoramic radiology etc. Dr. L T Kishore Dr. Srinivas Pentyala is a faculty member of anesthesiology, urology, health sciences, physiology and biophysics at Stony Brook Medical Center, NY. He is also the Director for Translational Research in Stony Brook's Anesthesiology Department where he is working on several applied projects, including drug discovery, diagnostic markers, and devices for health care settings. His research has received funding from both public and private sources. Dr. Pentyala has several publications and patents to his credit. Dr. Pentyala received several honors and awards not only for his role as a researcher but also as an educator. Dr. Srinivas Pentyala Professor of Epidemiology and Community Medicine, has active interest in Geriatrics and Gerontology. His work focuses on ageing and health, research studies involving physical as well as mental health of the older people, aged 60 years and more. He is the Principal Investigator of Mobility and Independent Living in Elders Study (MILES), a Longitudinal Study, initiated in 2012 by SHARE INDIA-Mediciti Institute of Medical Sciences in collaboration with University of Pittsburgh, funded by University of Pittsburgh, USA and NIH, Dr. Pawan K. Sharma Fogarty International Centre, USA. Professor of Community Medicine, Mediciti Institute of Medical Sciences. Dr Ganguly works in the area of Awareness regarding fever which is reportedly low among Indian urban parents, leading to its over- management among under five children. She also works in the area of Hypertension, pain management, and health perspectives related to occupation such as in truck drivers, etc Dr. Enakshi Ganguly A Biochemist and Microbiologist by training, her research interest lies in understanding basic and translational aspects of infectious diseases, tuberculosis in particular, disease pathogenesis, immunology, vaccines and therapeutics. As a faculty at BITS, Hyderabad, is diversifying into studying the role of Mucosal Associated Invariant T cells and its association with changes in microbiome in infectious and non-infectious disease settings such as genito- urinary tuberculosis, reproductive disorders including infertility, preterm birth, neonatal infections, sexually transmitted diseases and gynecological cancers Dr. Ruchi Jain Dey and liver and pancreatic diseases. Doctorate in Pharmacology (faculty of medicine), serving at FDTRC, NIN for over 32 yrs in various capacities. As a Pharmacologist associated in establishing State-of-Art facility at Centre for Advanced Research for Preclinical Toxicology (PCT) established in 1999 by ICMR at NIN with team of other scientists. His areas of work include i. Preclinical safety / efficacy evaluation of Biopharmaceuticals, GMOs, etc., ii. Social Drug Epidemiology, iii. Detection of early Lead toxicity & prevention. Dr. Dinesh K. Bhardwaj Rashmi Jaipal, an emeritus professor of psychology at Bloomfield College, N.J., specializing in cross-cultural psychology. Her areas of interest are immigration and acculturation, psychology and sustainable development, cultural conceptions of health and healing, indigenous psychologies, cross- cultural communication and implicit culture. Dr. Jaipal is the founder and director of the Center for Cultures and Communication at Bloomfield, as well as a Diversity Internship program and Diversity Training Certificate at the college. She received her PhD in clinical psychology from the New School for Social Research, New York, & as clinical coordinator in a rehabilitation Dr. Rashmi Jaipal program for the homeless mentally ill on the east side of Manhattan Initiated the Undergraduate Medical Conference for and by students as an annual activity–with participation from Medical Students from India and abroad with an objective to bridge the great void in the present educational system in teaching Basic Research Methodologies and provide a platform specifically for the Under Graduate Medical Students. Dr. Pariplavi Dr. G V Rao is a Gastroenterologist in Asian Institute of Gastroenterology Hyderabad. A graduate from Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad, he did his MS - General Surgery from Madras Medical College, Chennai. He is a member of National Academy of Medical Sciences. Dr.G.Venkateshwara Rao Mr. Rajat is a dual degree student at BITS Pilani, Hyderabad campus. He heads the Innovation Cell at BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus, and is actively involved in Automation and Robotics Club, and Aero Club BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus. Mr Rajat has developed a UV based automated system for sterilization of operation theater and this technology has wide applications in the food industry Mr. Rajat Bansal Dr. Karthik Chetan’s research interests include development of Biomaterial based formulations for 3-D printing and electrospinning techniques. The work involves product development and process optimization for adhesive/binder, food/gels, 3-D printing, microencapsulation and tissue engineering applications. Real-time investigation of processes such as, polymerization, protein denaturation, liquid-liquid phase separation, glass formation, annealing, physical aging and corresponding secondary relaxation processes by using dielectrics, calorimetry, ultrasonics and thermal conductivity techniques. Dr. Karthik Chetan V Dr. Sairam Reddy is vice president at Tidas Agrotech Pvt Lt. Sincere seeker of spirituality and practicing Heartfulness way of meditation since the year 2000, under the guidance of able Masters in Sri Ram Chandra Mission. Dr. Indira Pavan, a Trichologist and Pediatric Dermatologist in KPHB, Hyderabad with an experience of 16 years in these fields. Dr. Indira Pavan practices at Omega Clinics in KPHB, Hyderabad. She completed MBBS from Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad in 2001 and MD - Dermatology, Venereology & Leprosy from Gandhi Medical College, Hyderabad in 2004. She is a member of Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists (IADVL) and Indian Society for Pediatric Dermatology.
