Logan Hospital is now seeking to appoint an inspirational and resilient leader as its new Director of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The new Director will co-lead the maternity service with the Nursing and Midwifery Director, Women’s and Children’s Division. The Director will have a demonstrated track record of senior clinical leadership and the ability to lead and manage change and foster collaborative working relationships in a collegial environment.

The successful candidate will strengthen clinician engagement and gain the support of all stakeholders for contemporary models of care to improve health outcomes for the local community. The successful candidate will be an active, outcomes-focussed clinical leader with the ability to contribute to clinical governance as well as organisation-wide, effective, and timely strategic change within agreed financial targets. The new Director will also actively contribute to the achievement of the Logan and Beaudesert Health Service’s strategies, plans and key performance indicators.

Logan Hospital is a 436 bed hospital within the Metro South Health Service in Brisbane, Queensland. It is a major teaching hospital for one of the fastest growing regions in the state of Queensland. It provides acute medical, surgical, rehabilitation, maternity, , orthopaedics, renal and other specialty services for children and adults. A major expansion of Logan Hospital is underway to provide new beds and treatment spaces to meet the demand for clinical services into the future. This work includes construction of new floors for clinical services, a major refurbishment of the hospital’s maternity and neonatal services, a new general medical ward with 28 beds and a new multi-storey car park for staff, patients and visitors.

Logan Hospital is a ‘digital hospital’ with a fully integrated electronic medical record, supporting improvements to the quality and efficiency of healthcare services for patients and the community. Logan Hospital also operates the second busiest emergency department in Queensland.

The successful applicant will be registered, or have the ability to be registered, as a medical specialist in Obstetrics & Gynaecology with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). The successful applicant will be required to hold a Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, or an equivalent qualification.

Logan Hospital is the major health centre for one of the fastest growing regions in the Queensland. The emergency department is one of the busiest in the state, seeing more than 88,000 presentations each year Logan Hospital has grown from a 48-bed community hospital in 1990 to a 436-bed hospital today, mirroring the rapid growth in population in the Logan region.

Logan Hospital Expansion

Logan Hospital, with more than 2400 staff, is one of the fastest growing regions in the state with more than 70,000 people expected to move to the area within the next decade. The Logan Hospital expansion is one of the state’s largest ever hospital expansions. It will deliver a 48 per cent increase on the existing bed capacity, significantly increasing the size of the Logan Hospital to meet the needs of its community. The expansion will be a significant transformation for Logan Hospital. In addition to a vertical expansion (new floors), the program of work includes the refurbishment of the original hospital buildings which are nearly 30 years old.

Ultimately, the expansion will allow Logan Hospital to provide a range of new and expanded healthcare services with new beds and treatment spaces to meet the demand for clinical services into the future. The work includes:

• Provide expert clinical services at Logan Hospital and support clinical services at the Beaudesert Hospital through the provision of authoritative advice and clinical guidance, in line with the CSCF for each hospital.

Educational Responsibilities

• Oversee the provision of high-quality Obstetrics and Gynaecology education and training for medical students and junior medical staff, including Interns, Resident Medical Officers and Registrars / PHOs

• Support the ongoing education for midwives, nurses and allied health staff.

• Promote patient and staff safety, effective teamwork, collaboration and respectful professional relationships by maximising opportunities for interdisciplinary education and training

• Ensure that all senior medical staff, including themselves, maintain their professional competency and development through appropriate continuing educational activities.

Research

• Initiate, encourage and participate in research, evaluation and evidence-based treatment aimed at achieving demonstrable improvements in clinical and service outcomes, whilst complying with local Ethics & Research Committee requirements.

Maintenance of Professional Standards

• Maintain professional standards within the Department as well as contribute to this within the wider hospital.

• Ensure patients and other staff are treated fairly and with mutual respect and understanding, regardless of cultural, religious, ethnic and linguistic backgrounds.

• Follow defined service quality standards, occupational health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

• All relevant health professionals, who in the course of their duties formulate a reasonable suspicion that a child or youth has been abused or neglected in their home/community environment, have a legislative and a duty of care obligation to immediately report such concerns to Child Safety Services, Department of Communities.

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS, PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATION AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration or membership with the appropriate registration authority or association within Australia. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties. • Fellowship with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, or equivalent qualification, and registration or ability to be registered as a medical specialist in Obstetrics & Gynaecology with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). • The appointee will be required to undergo a credentialing process and will be granted appropriate scope of clinical practice. • This position may be required to undertake shifts in an extended span of ordinary hours to meet clinical need. • This position requires the incumbent to operate a class C motor vehicle, and an appropriate licence endorsement to operate this type of vehicle is required. Proof of this endorsement must be provided before commencement of duty. • Pre-employment screening, including criminal history and discipline history checks, may be undertaken on persons recommended for employment. Roles providing health, counselling and support services mainly to children will require a Blue Card, unless otherwise exempt.

SUPERANNUATION

Most employees make a compulsory contribution of 5% of their superannuable salary into their Superannuation fund, for which their employer will contribute 12.75% of the employee’s superannuable salary. The Employee contribution of 5% of their salary is also able to be salary sacrificed, i.e. paid from pre- tax income, which effectively reduces the employee’s taxable income.

Your key responsibilities . Fulfil the accountabilities and responsibilities of this role in accordance with Metro South’s purpose and objectives, as outlined below.

Leadership responsibilities . Lead and collaborate for the delivery, development and redesign of clinical services to meet the specific needs of the communities served by the Logan and Beaudesert Health Service, in line with MSH strategic priorities

. Champion and role model a culture that delivers efficient, women and family centred services, professional excellence, collaborative interdisciplinary practice, personal commitment and physical and psychological safety and wellbeing . Actively promote the organisational values . Lead the ongoing development of the workforce with a focus on commitment to clinical excellence, effective interdisciplinary teamwork and continuous, rigorous improvement . Develop and lead an effective, sustainable system of clinical governance that demonstrates the safety and quality of services and is sensitive to clinically relevant variance. . Lead for the successful delivery of strategic and operational initiatives that meet key priorities and performance indicator requirements, including timely patient access, activity, efficient resource utilisation and budget integrity . Participate in own annual performance and professional development review and manage these reviews for medical staff in the department

Clinical Responsibilities . Actively participate in the provision of clinical services including the Consultant after-hours on call roster and weekend roster for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. . Provide expert clinical services at Logan Hospital and support clinical services at the Beaudesert Hospital through the provision of authoritative advice and clinical guidance, in line with the CSCF for each hospital. . Provide clinical services in line with expected standards of the speciality, organisation and profession . Provide clinical supervision for registrars and junior medical staff

Educational Responsibilities . Oversee the provision of high-quality Obstetrics and Gynaecology education and training for medical students and junior medical staff, including Interns, Resident Medical Officers and Registrars / PHOs . Support the ongoing education for midwives, nurses and allied health staff. . Promote patient and staff safety, effective teamwork, collaboration and respectful professional relationships by maximising opportunities for interdisciplinary education and training . Ensure that all senior medical staff, including themselves, maintain their professional competency and development through appropriate continuing educational activities.

Research . Initiate, encourage and participate in research, evaluation and evidence-based treatment aimed at achieving demonstrable improvements in clinical and service outcomes, whilst complying with local Ethics & Research Committee requirements.

Maintenance of Professional Standards . Maintain professional standards within the Department as well as contribute to this within the wider hospital. . Ensure patients and other staff are treated fairly and with mutual respect and understanding, regardless of cultural, religious, ethnic and linguistic backgrounds. . Follow defined service quality standards, occupational health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces. General Responsibilities . Perform duties as determined by the Service; . Perform any other duties directed by the Service which are within their scope of practice and for which they

are registered in the State; . Perform other provisions related to the duties of the Medical Officer as agreed by the parties; . Implement and support clinical models of care and patient safety initiatives as required; . Support alternative revenue sources and maximise funding for the delivery of service (where appropriate); . Lead and manage staff by fostering and committing to patient safety and quality in the delivery of health care by maintaining and evaluating safety and quality practices and initiatives. . All relevant health professionals, who in the course of their duties formulate a reasonable suspicion that a child or youth has been abused or neglected in their home/community environment, have a legislative and a duty of care obligation to immediately report such concerns to Child Safety Services, Department of Communities.

Mandatory qualifications, professional registration and other requirements . Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration or membership with the appropriate registration authority or association within Australia. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties. . Fellowship with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, or equivalent qualification, and registration or ability to be registered as a medical specialist in Obstetrics & Gynaecology with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). . The appointee will be required to undergo a credentialing process and will be granted appropriate scope of clinical practice. . This position may be required to undertake shifts in an extended span of ordinary hours to meet clinical need. . This position requires the incumbent to operate a class C motor vehicle, and an appropriate licence endorsement to operate this type of vehicle is required. Proof of this endorsement must be provided before commencement of duty. . Pre-employment screening, including criminal history and discipline history checks, may be undertaken on persons recommended for employment. Roles providing health, counselling and support services mainly to children will require a Blue Card, unless otherwise exempt. . It is a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment:

o measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) o varicella (chicken pox) o pertussis (whooping cough) o hepatitis B o tuberculosis

Granted Private Practice Granted Private Practice option Assigned or Retained or Not Applicable (VMOs).

The Service nominates if the Medical Officer is granted permission to participate in Granted Private Practice. Where the Service grants the Medical Officer the opportunity to participate in Granted Private Practice, the Medical Officer must perform Granted Private Practice in accordance with their Granted Private Practice Agreement.

Where the parties agree that the Medical Officer exercises Granted Private Practice the Medical Officer provides a professional service to a Private Patient during the Medical Officer's hours of work in the public hospital system.

Effective time management skills and reliability in meeting deadlines and commitments. . o lead a team consisting of clinical staff of various ages, skills and knowledge, o mediate concerns and facilitate problem-solving between various stakeholders o counsel patients and o appropriately and sensitively manage complaints from both staff members and patients.
