You may sing acapella, or bring a piano accompanist (optional). The use of other instruments or pre-recorded accompaniments is not allowed. Audition Details Date Sun, 29 Sept 2019* Time 10:00am onwards Venue Will be announced with your audition timeslot via email *A second audition date may be assigned when audition vacancies are filled Process 1. The audition may include singing back several intervals or short melodic fragments as played on the keyboard, singing scales and sight-singing. 2. Auditionees will be assessed on vocal quality, ability to sing in tune, match pitch, attentiveness & diction. A shared warmup room will be available for all auditionees as they wait their turn. Kindly use the warmup room as required, we will call for the auditionee when his/her turn is next. Parents and families of the auditionees will not be allowed in the audition room, nor to view the process of the audition. Please wait in the holding area while the audition is in progress. No external photography and/or videography is allowed at any time during the auditions. For internal review and qualitative purposes, we will be taking 1 photo of the auditionee and will be videographing a portion of the related audition to ensure fairness in the audition process. Results All auditionees will be notified of the status of their auditions. With the number of auditionees expected, the audition results will be consolidated and released only at the end of November 2019. All succeeding decisions on audition outcomes will be made with extensive review and are final. Tips 1. Drink lots of water and avoid heaty food before your audition. 2. Do warm up before your audition! 3. Choose a piece you like and are familiar with. Be confident and enjoy the song! The panellists just want to get to know you better, so sing your heart out! .

During the auditions, you will be asked to do a cold-read from a script for the artistic director. This means you will likely be given a short time (after you arrive for audition) to glance over a section of script and read with others also auditioning. We may have something different for young non-readers for this part. We attended the Midwest Theatre Auditions at Wehster University in St. Louis where 55 different theatres auditioned over 400 young actors and actresses and interviewed about 100 theatre technicians. 84 children auditioned here in Sullivan for the children's roles in THE SOUND OF MUSIC and over 65 adults attended our Sullivan auditions. And ... we saw another 87 people at our Actors' Equity Association audition call in Chicago. (In addition, Seth Reines attends other auditions in his role as Artistic Producer for the Prather Family Dinner Theatres and has seen over 700 people.) From all of this, we will assemble a company of approximately 100 people including only 30-35 different actors. I am sure that we have found talented performers who will produce the quality productions that you have become accustomed to here at The Little Theatre On The Square. We are glad you are here and we know you will enjoy the show.

I found myself alone in my empty dorm room, having moved back to Scripps early. I had no friends back on campus yet, and nothing on my schedule. All I had, it seemed, was the infectious soundtrack of the musical The King and I stuck in my head, and a nagging ​ ​ curiosity that refused to leave me. I had seen a revival production of the show on tour the week prior, and still I could not forget its strong affective power, nor the bizarre sense of its relevance, despite the show being over sixty years old. As I went about my room, whistling a happy tune and miming the sweeping polka steps of “Shall We Dance?” I wondered how it was that this dated musical continued to appeal so powerfully to modern audiences.
