Oh, What a Beautiful Day: Creative Team Sing Books with Emily, the Cabaret EMILY LEATHA EVERSON GLEICHENHAUS, Performer E mily Leatha Everson was born in Germany, grew up a Hoosier, became a New Yorker, married a soldier, started a family in DC, and now calls Arlington home. Emily was introduced to the art of cabaret by Charles Nelson Reilly w ho cast and co-directed a show (with Donna McKechnie) as a benefit for HB Studio in NYC. In 2003, Emily was s elected to attend the Cabaret Conference at Yale University. She has performed in group and solo cabarets in m any venues around DC and Arlington, including Signature Theatre, Kennedy Center, Atlas Performing Arts C enter, H Street Playhouse, Warehouse Theatre, Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW), Arts Club of Washington, M aggie's Cabaret and 1409 Playbill. Emily's Capital Fringe Festival cabaret credits include: "Naked Cabaret, E motionally That Is," "Naked Cabaret, Beyond Bare," "Psycho Cabaret," and "Run Away With Me. " Emily’s one w oman shows include “Let Me Tell You” (Parts I and II), “Domestic Disturbances” and “It’s a Jungle Out There.” F avorite musical credits include Jenny in "Three Penny Opera," (JeRM Prod. at Georgetown University), Della in "Gifts of the Magi" (Indiana Repertory Theatre), Frederika in "A Little Night Music" (Starlight Musicals, starring Lainie Kazan). Emily regularly performs SING BOOKS WITH EMILY programs at schools, libraries, bookstores and p rivate events. A LEX TANG, Music Director P ianist ALEX TANG has performed at the Kennedy Center, Smithsonian, Arena Stage, Signature Theatre, Studio T heatre, National Theatre, Warner Theatre, Ford's Theatre, and with numerous other orchestral, opera, chamber, a nd cabaret groups and artists. He has played locally for the national tours of "Mamma Mia!", "Cats," "Cabaret" ( w/Teri Hatcher and Norbert Leo Butz), "Big River," "Hairspray," "Wicked," "The Lion King," and "Legally Blonde," fo r world premieres of works by Broadway composers Kander & Ebb ("Over & Over") and Michael John LaChiusa ( "The Highest Yellow," "Giant"), and for Broadway performers and Tony winners including Debbie Allen, Michael Rupert, John Raitt and Laura Benanti. He was the music director of the Smithsonian's gala concert for the centenary of Broadway composer Richard Rodgers, and a staff accompanist and member of the Opera House Orchestra for the Kennedy Center's acclaimed Sondheim Celebration. He was a pianist-conductor for the area premieres of "Last Five Years" (Metrostage), the Helen Hayes Award-winning production of "Urinetown" (Signature), and "Adding Machine: A Musical" and "Passing Strange" (Studio). For nearly eight seasons, he served as accompanist for the Lesbian & Gay Chorus of Washington, and produced their premiere CD, and regularly plays open mics and singers' showcases for the D.C. Cabaret Network. In his other life, he is a full-time lawyer who has also served on the advisory boards of the Thomas Circle Singers (Washingtonians of the Year), Liz Lerman Dance Exchange (MacArthur Foundation Award), and GAYLAW.
