Communications:

The Animal Health Board is making steady progress in planning for transition of vector management services from the Hawkes Bay Regional Council which will come into effect from 1 July 2013. A team of three people have been appointed. Negotiations are almost complete to have the team co- located with the Department of Conservation in their “Conservation House” on Marine Parade.

The Central District Field Days were held at Manfield, Feilding in early March. This year, the Animal Health Boards’ stand was co-located with NAIT on a good site in the Straight Furrow tent.

The annual contractors’ meeting was held in Dannevirke this year. This provided a convenient centralised point for the Southern North Island and the East Coast contractors. The programme was varied and interesting and feedback from attendees at the meeting was very positive.

Consultation is due to begin on the Western Tararua Aerial Operation delayed from 2011. This will be completed in the 13/14 FY.

Vector Operations

Of the 271 approved activities in the Manawatu-Wanganui Region, 123 have been completed to date.

The majority of the Southern North Island and East Coast 2013-14 control projects are included in the first tender round which is out with the contractors now and closes on 15 April. The projects have been structured into 26 bundles of comparable dollar and hectare values to make them more attractive for tendering. There are a number of 2nd-year projects continuing into 2013-14.
