    > c g C/l ^ rn H C 1 ^ H 3 C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S A N D HAPPY 80th BIRTHDAY ECS This year marks the eightieth consecutive year that Miss Edgar's and Miss Cramp's School has offered a scholarly education to young women in Montreal. In these changing times it is important for our School Community to be reminded of the stability which institutions such as ECS give to our city. To celebrate this great achievement Miss Edgar's and Miss Cramp's School had a three day 80th Birthday Party during the first weekend in November 1989 culminating in the official opening of the new 12,000 square-foot building extension. The annual Founders' Day service took place on Thursday, November 2. Mrs. Jean Stavert Welsford, Class of 1914 and present when the original school opened in 1909, came to give the students a real sense of tradition and continuity. The audience heard the finalists in the Old Girls' Public Speaking Contest and Miss Maysie MacSporran, Class of 1922, Teacher from 1933-39, and Headmistress from 1940-61, was guest speaker. On Friday afternoon the gymnasium was transformed into a garden, complete with rose arbour, for the Time-Warp bazaar organized by Grade Ten and tea was served to parents, company members, hoard members, old girls, past parents and friends of the School. Members of the Junior and Senior Choirs and the School Band performed for the guests. There was a Fashion Show which featured costumes from eight decades.

  • Enhancing Healthcare Decision-Making Process: Findings from Orthopaedic Field
administrative sciences Article Enhancing Healthcare Decision-Making Process: Findings from Orthopaedic Field Irene Schettini * , Gabriele Palozzi and Antonio Chirico Department of Management and Law, University of Rome Tor Vergata, 00133 Rome, Italy; [email protected] (G.P.); [email protected] (A.C.) * Correspondence: [email protected]; Tel.: +39-0672-595-401 Received: 29 October 2020; Accepted: 20 November 2020; Published: 25 November 2020 Abstract: In the healthcare field, the decision-making process is part of the broad spectrum of “clinical reasoning”, which is recognised as the whole process by which a physician decides about patients’ treatments and cares. Several clinicians’ intrinsic variables lead to this decisional path. Little is known about the inference of these variables in triggering biases in decisions about the post-discharge period in the surgical field. Accordingly, this research aims to understand if and how cognitive biases can affect orthopaedists in decision-making regarding the follow-up after knee and hip arthroplasty. To achieve this goal, an interview-based explorative case study was run. Three key-decisional orthopaedic surgeons were interviewed through a quality control tool aimed at monitoring the causes and effects of cognitive distortions. Coherently with the literature, eight biases come to light. All the interviewees agree on the presence of four common biases in orthopaedic surgery (Affect heuristic, Anchoring, Halo effect, Saliency). The other biases (Groupthink, Availability, Overconfidence, Confirmation), instead, depending on specific physicians’ intrinsic variables; namely: (i) working experience; (ii) working context. This finding contributes to the debate about the application of cognitive tools as leverage for improving the quality of clinical decision-making process and, indirectly, enhancing better healthcare outcomes.

CANADIAN PRIVATE COPYING COLLECTIVE SOCIÉTÉ CANADIENNE DE PERCEPTION DE LA COPIE PRIVÉE 150 Eglinton Ave. East, Suite 403 Toronto, Ontario M4P 1E8 416 486 6832 1 800 892 7235 416 486 3064 [FAX] www.cpcc.ca CPCC CPCC C-32 Submission Background The Canadian Private Copying Collective (CPCC) is the non-profit organization responsible for collecting private copying royalties and distributing them to songwriters, performers, music publishers and record companies, as well as promoting the interests of rights holders as they pertain to private copying. For over a decade, the CPCC has represented copyright holders before the Copyright Board of Canada. The Board establishes the levies that may be collected after trial-like hearings where experts, representing music rights holders and organizations that represent consumers and businesses that sell leviable blank media, present evidence and are cross-examined. The private copying levy has been an important part of the Canadian copyright regime since 1999, when the first private copying tariff was certified by the Copyright Board, following amendments made to the Copyright Act (the “Act”) in 1997 to allow for a levy to be placed on blank audio recording media. Currently, the levy only applies to blank CDs and MiniDiscs, at a rate of 29 cents per unit, and is paid by manufacturers and importers of these blank media to the CPCC for distribution to rights holders. The private copying levy has provided an effective mechanism whereby consumers are allowed to make copies of music for their personal use without infringing copyright and, in exchange, music creators receive royalties that recognize the value of private copies of their work.
