  • Fault Lines: Sinai Peninsula 20 OCT 2017 the Sinai Peninsula Is a Complicated Operational Environment (OE)
Fault Lines: Sinai Peninsula 20 OCT 2017 The Sinai Peninsula is a complicated operational environment (OE). At present, there are a number of interconnected conditions creating instability and fostering a favorable environment for the growth of Islamic extremist groups. Egypt is battling this situation with large-scale security operations, yet militant activity is not diminishing. The Egyptian government, in coordination with the Israeli government, is placing renewed interest on countering insurgent actors in the region and establishing a lasting security. Despite its best effort, Egypt has been largely unsuccessful. A variety of factors have contributed to the continued rise of the insurgents. We submit there are four key fault lines contributing to instability. These fault lines are neither mutually exclusive nor are they isolated to the Sinai. In fact, they are inexorably intertwined, in ways between Egypt, Israel, and the Sinai Peninsula. Issues related to faults create stability complications, legitimacy concerns, and disidentification problems that can be easily exploited by interested actors. It is essential to understand the conditions creating the faults, the escalation that results from them operating at the same time, and the potential effects for continued insecurity and ultimately instability in the region. FAULT LINES Egypt-Israel Relations - Enduring geopolitical tension between Egypt and Israel, and complex coordination needs between are “exploitable dissimilar and traditionally untrusting cultures, has potential for explosive effects on regional stability. sources of Political Instability - Continued political instability, generated from leadership turmoil, mounting security concerns, and insufficient efforts for economic development may lead to an exponentially dire security situation and direct and violent instability in the challenges to the government.

The stress and emotional sensations of conflict and displacement were an impetus to create literature of uncommon perceptiveness and candour, and artwork of great virtuosity, the merit of which is only augmented by the artist or printers’ use of uncommon or improvised materials and techniques.

ASIAN AND AFRICAN STUDIES, 18, 2009, 2, 232-264 FROM THE ADRIATIC SEA TO THE PACIFIC OCEAN THE CROATS IN NEW ZEALAND Hans-Peter STOFFEL School of European Languages and Literatures, University of Auckland, 14a Symonds St, New Zealand [email protected] The Croatian Community in New Zealand has a unique history. It is about 150 years old, its earliest arrivals were mainly young men from the Dalmatian coast of whom almost all worked as kauri gumdiggers before moving into farming, and then into viticulture, fisheries and orchard business. Before large-scale urbanisation in the 1930s they lived in the north of New Zealand where there was also considerable contact with the local Maori population. The arrival of ever more women from Dalmatia, urbanisation and with it the establishment of voluntary associations, an improved knowledge of English, the language of the host society and, above all, economic betterment led to ever greater integration. After World War II migrants from areas of former Yugoslavia other than Croatia started to arrive in bigger numbers. Nowadays Croat people can be found in all spheres of New Zealand society and life, including in the arts, literature and sports. But the history of the Croats in New Zealand is also characterised by its links with the 'Old Country' whose political and social events, the latest in the 1990s, have always had a profound influence on the New Zealand Croatian community. Key words: Croatian chain migration to and from New Zealand, Croatia(n), Dalmatia(n), Yugoslavia, Austria-Hungary, kauri gumdigging, economic advancement, integration into Maori and Pakeha (white) host societies, women, urbanisation, voluntary associations, New Zealand Croatian culture, New Zealand Croatian dialects On 22 November 2008 the Croatian community in New Zealand celebrated the 150th anniversary of the arrival of Paval Lupis from Dalmatia in New Zealand in 1858.

SVEUČILIŠTE U ZADRU ODJEL ZA POVIJEST Mr. sc. Mateo Bratanić Hrvatski zbjegovi u Egipat 1943.-1946. Doktorski rad Mentor: prof. dr. sc. Mithad Kozličić Zadar, 2009. 1. UVOD U ratnim okolnostima ljudi uvijek pate.

Publications about monuments to fighters and victims of the Second World War in Yugoslavia began to appear in the late 1950s. They were dedicated to one or more monuments or memorial complexes. Over time, in tourist guides, among other sites, monuments and memorials began to be presented as a significant place worth a visit. During the second half of the 1970s, printing of special tourist guides dedicated only to monuments and memorial complexes started. Because of the popularity of monuments, a sticker album was also printed. The intention behind printing such publications was to inform citizens about monuments, but there was also an ideological side to it. Through books about monuments, the state and the Communist party wanted to emphasize again Yugoslav war efforts and the sacrifice that was made during the war. They used it as a propaganda tool in youth education, foreign diplomacy and overall state propaganda about the role of Yugoslav partisans, under the leadership of the Communist party, in the victory against fascism. Key words: monuments, memorials, publications, books, tourist guides, sticker album, People’s Liberation War in Yugoslavia. 1. INTRODUCTION Monuments to the partisans who died for the liberation of Yugoslavia from the occupiers began to be built while the war was still going on.

UDK 272–4:325.254(497.5):949.71«1943–1946«El Shatt Izvorni znanstveni rad Primljeno: 8. 2. 2011. Prihvaćeno za objavljivanje: 31. 3. 2011. VJERA I VJERSKA PRAKSA U HRVATSKIM ZBJEGOVIMA U EL SHATTU (1944. – 1946.)

Usually the concern is man's destruction or alteration of the perceived natural environment. More often than not there is little understanding that the earth's natural environment is largely determined by the underlying geology, and its derivatives, modified by the local biosphere and climatic conditions.
