RECEIVED 0 5 JUL 201Z HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVI8 STANDING COMMITTBI ON INFRASTRUCTURE AND COMMUNICATIONS The Committee Secretary House of Representatives Standing Committee on Infrastructure and Communications P.O.BOX 6021 PARLIAMENT HOUSE CANBERRA ACT 2600 AUSTRALIA, Dear Sir or Madam, A simple, brief and hopefully to the point illustration of the ongoing exploitation of the Australian consumer by the world's largest music retailer, Apple's " i-tunes" I enclose examples of what would be described as a "back catalogue" item with a Nine (9) dollar difference in pricing, with the Australian dollar sitting at parity with the US dollar. This is how it is with most music products, 1000's of pages of submission are not needed, just ask Apple to explain, justify this example , I understand that if Apple set their price and people pay then the argument for it to stop seems weak but their pricing is immoral and exploitative . They know they are the market leader and use their market power to make excessive profits. It seems that they have been guilty of this sort of behaviour in other countries and have been forced to change their pricing, In America they were seen to be charging an unfair price for their sonically inferior product when compared with the CD and were forced to change their pricing. They have been censured recently over their immoral advertising of products and "4G" compatibility Hopefully something can be done to ensure that Australia is not just an easy target for huge corporations like Apple Yours sincerely PAUL BARKER Music a Rock i Warren Zevon Album Review After the release of Warren Zevon's fourth album, Bad Luck Streak in Dancing School, he was clean and sober for the first time years, and on-stage he was determined to make the most of his newrtound strength and self-control.

  • A Study of the Lyric in Musical Theatre
2084: A Study of the Lyric in Musical Theatre Sarah Courtis This dissertation is presented for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, Murdoch University, Perth, 2019. 1 2 I declare that this dissertation is my own account of my research and contains as its main content work, which has not previously been submitted for a degree at any tertiary education institution. _______________________Sarah Courtis Sarah Courtis 3 Acknowledgements This document is the culmination of five years of research and a lifetime of dedication to an art form and general practice. The years spent studying have been hard but inspiring, as I negotiated the life of a researcher with the daily struggles of having a chronic illness. This work was generated through perseverance and the continual support of the people around me. My first, and undying, gratitude to my supervisors: Associate Professor Jenny de Reuck and Doctor David Moody. Jenny, you supported me through many trials and tribulations, providing me with positivity and a safe space to express myself and try new approaches. Words cannot express my gratitude. David, your numerous edits and illuminating discussions shall remain with me, always. You kept me grounded and reminded me not to take myself too seriously. Thank you both for your patience. Secondly, I would like to thank all of the people who participated in and enriched my creative practice. To the cast and crew of 2084 (both the workshop and final product): you helped make the show what it is. To Dr Melissa Merchant I am deeply indebted for mentoring me through life as an academic and for all the good advice I promptly ignored: perhaps the next generation will be wiser.

[HOME PAGE ] SPIRITUAL As told to Mark Wood Journeys Photos by Carrie Rosema Meghana Rao ’16 “My experience with Hinduism has a lot to do with community, and the stories within that community. So one way that I express and experience my faith is through dance. I started learning kathak, an Indian classical dance, when I was about 7. It used to be a temple dance, and you would dance it to devotional songs. I don’t know if most people think of dance as a religious experience, but a lot of those devotional songs are very personal for me, so dance has been a very helpful tool to keep me connected to my faith. It’s my way of sharing my culture and my faith with other people. “Back at home, my religious experience was very community-related. My family would tell the old stories. That community has been a little harder to find here. There is a Hindu community, but it’s such a varied and diverse community that those aspects don’t necessarily come up as much.
