Tip-on Jacket, 180 gram vinyl, insert with liner notes. Split green & blue vinyl Special unreleased new mix for Record Store Day 2020 created by original band members Marian Gold and Bernhardt Lloyd together with Blank & Jones. For the first time Bernhard Lloyd worked with Marian Gold in the studio again since he left Alphaville in 2003. Only original parts from the 1984 multi track tapes were used, no additional instruments. The name "Grant & Kelly Remix“ results from a line in the second verse of the song: "….Like the Cary Grants and Kellys once before…“ Blank & Jones work closely with the band since 2013 on various projects like "so8os (so eighties) Reconstructions pres. Alphaville“ and the "Forever Young - Super Deluxe Edition". This limited edition also features a special long version on the B-side. Contains 11 previously unissued demos and alternate tracks from 1971-1976. • Liner notes by the band’s Gerry Beckley • Includes long rumoured 13 minute acoustic jam “Jameroony.” In 2017, Omnivore Recordings released Heritage: Home Recordings/Demos 1970-1973. And now, due to critical and commercial acclaim, we are pleased to announce for Record Store Day 2020, the vinyl release of Heritage II: Demos/Alternate Takes 1971-1976. This collection picks up where the first volume left off, centering mostly on the beginning of the Sir George Martin era. Martin produced seven albums by America and Heritage II focuses in on demos and alternate takes from the Holiday, Hearts, and Hideaway albums from 1974–1976. Hear for the very first time, an unreleased Gerry Beckley song, “Mandy”; demos of songs from Holiday (“What Does It Matter” and “Mad Dog”), outtakes from Hearts (“Simple Life”) and alternate mixes from Hideaway (“Amber Cascades” and “Today’s The Day”). In addition to these gems, there’s a real rarity included herein from 1971, an acoustic instrumental jam by Gerry Beckley, Dewey Bunnell and Dan Peek entitled, “Jameroony” lasting nearly 13 minutes. Unearthed from the band’s archives, this track has been rumored for years but only just found recently. An early ’70s soft rock fan’s dream come true. This collection spotlights a new direction in the band’s sound as Sir George Martin takes the reins and leads them to many more platinum albums and hit records. Please enjoy this alternate walk down memory lane as you immerse yourself in the guilty pleasures of America! RSD reissue of the acclaimed 2019 debut album from Amyl and The Sniffers: the sound of a 21st century Australia, recorded in Sheffield with producer Ross Orton (Arctic Monkeys, M.I.A.). Influenced by a love of glam, the '70s sharpie movement and good time rock n roll. Full of beefy riffs and stomping drums, attitude, sass and Amy's venerable sore throat howl. Pressed on silver vinyl, limited to 500 copies. ANNIHILATOR OFFER THEIR ACOUSTIC TREASURE TO CELEBRATE RECORD STORE DAY ON APRIL 18th 2020 Canadian thrash metal protagonists Annihilator celebrate Record Store Day with a 12” picture disc release of acoustic material previously only available in 2017’s Triple Threat CD format (the picture disc is the 2017 release cover art). Titled Triple Threat Unplugged, the 10-cut selection further accentuates the virtuoso skills of founder and leader, Jeff Waters, and were never previously released on vinyl. Joining Waters for the recordings, which took place in his home studio near Ottawa, were band members Aaron Homma and Richard Hinks, Vancouver BC drummer and friend Marc LeFrance plus Ottawa session player Pat Robillard, and the selections (which include “Sounds Good To Me”, Stonewall” and “Phoenix Rising”) illustrate the more unique, calmer elements of Annihilator’s library, with Waters’ guitar as vibrant as ever in this acoustic setting. This is Annihilator annihilating in a whole other way! This is the 25th Anniversary reissue of Ben Lee's debut solo record released on Grand Royal in 1995. The first disc is the remastered version of Grandpaw Would. The 2nd disc is a mix of covers, demos, previously unreleased recordings as well as songs from an EP and a 7" single. This will also come with a deluxe package booklet that features testimonials from the likes of Mike D (Beastie Boys) Damian Abraham (Fucked Up) Sean Tillman (Har Mar Superstar) and others. Pressed on Birthday Cake Splatter Vinyl. Special opaque white vinyl exclusive 7” single features the Frightened Rabbit cover, “Modern Leper” and the David Bowie cover “Modern Love.” For this year’s Record Store Day, the annual celebration of independent record stores, Nonesuch releases a limited-edition, 45-RPM version of The Black Keys’ chart-topping ninth album, “Let’s Rock”. The new Record Store Day edition of “Let’s Rock” is being pressed on two 180-gram vinyl discs and comes in a deluxe holographic gatefold jacket, with each piece individually numbered. The set is limited to 7,500 pieces worldwide.

  • Horse with No Name” Paul Zollo - the Origins of the Iconic, Enigmatic Anthem, in His Own Words It’S One of the Most Famously Mysterious Songs Ever to Become a Hit
APRIL 3, 2020 Link to article: https://americansongwriter.com/behind-the-song-horse-with-no-name/ Behind The Song: America, “Horse With No Name” Paul Zollo - The Origins of the Iconic, Enigmatic Anthem, In His Own Words It’s one of the most famously mysterious songs ever to become a hit. It’s got enigma baked into it, which may be part of its lasting magic. Like Lennon’s “Norwegian Wood,” and other great though cryptic songs, it doesn’t fill in the entire picture, leaving it instead up to the listener to do that on their own. All of its components enhance this dynamic of hypnotic mystery. There’s the swampy/mystic tone of the track, ethereal yet visceral, just acoustic guitars, bass and conga with no drums. The vocal is delivered as if from a storyteller spinning an ancient mythic tale, not performing as much as testifying, and in language that resounds like coded poetry. We’re in motion the entire time, days are passing, and the heat is relentless. Elemental symbols are everywhere like images from a perplexingly real dream – a dry riverbed, appointed with plants and birds and rocks and things, and incessant sound. And, of course, there’s that mysterious horse, the one with no name, which did forever force the question: Why? Why didn’t anyone name this horse? In search of answers, we turned to the songwriting source himself, Dewey Bunnell, who spoke to us on the phone last week, the final week of March, 2020, at the start of the mandatory stay-at-home orders in California.

Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: An Analysis into Graphic Design’s Effectiveness at Conveying Music Genres by Vivian Le A THESIS submitted to Oregon State University Honors College in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Honors Baccalaureate of Science in Accounting and Business Information Systems (Honors Scholar) Presented May 29, 2020 Commencement June 2020 AN ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS OF Vivian Le for the degree of Honors Baccalaureate of Science in Accounting and Business Information Systems presented on May 29, 2020. Title: Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: An Analysis into Graphic Design’s Effectiveness at Conveying Music Genres. Abstract approved:_____________________________________________________ Ryann Reynolds-McIlnay The rise of digital streaming has largely impacted the way the average listener consumes music. Consequentially, while the role of album art has evolved to meet the changes in music technology, it is hard to measure the effect of digital streaming on modern album art. This research seeks to determine whether or not graphic design still plays a role in marketing information about the music, such as its genre, to the consumer. It does so through two studies: 1. A computer visual analysis that measures color dominance of an image, and 2. A mixed-design lab experiment with volunteer participants who attempt to assess the genre of a given album. Findings from the first study show that color scheme models created from album samples cannot be used to predict the genre of an album. Further findings from the second theory show that consumers pay a significant amount of attention to album covers, enough to be able to correctly assess the genre of an album most of the time.

  • The Roots Report: America at Twin River
The Roots Report: America at Twin River Okee dokee folks… “Fifty years was not in the plan, but as long as you keep coming we’ll keep playing,” exclaimed Dewey Bunnell of the band America last Friday night at Twin River Casino’s Event Center. America was started as a trio in England by the sons of American Air Force servicemen stationed in England — Bunnell, Gerry Beckley and Dan Peek — in the late ’60s while they were still teenagers in high school. They quickly gained notoriety and soon were one of the bands that defined the sound of the early 1970s. Peek left the band in 1977 and passed away in 2011. America has been Bunnell and Beckley for most of their 50-year history. A few songs into their 90-minute set, Gerry Beckly said, “We’re glad to be back in Rhode Island…we’re sorry it’s been a while since we’ve been here!” The show kicked off with one of their more popular hits, “Tin Man.” That was quickly followed by their 1982 hit, “You Can Do Magic.” The vocals were handed over to drummer Ryland Steen for “Don’t Cross The River.” Multi instrumentalist Steve Fekete added six-string banjo to the mix as well. He also showcased his talents on piano and acoustic guitar, but really demonstrated his playing prowess on electric guitar. Most of the concert consisted of the entire contents of History: America’s Greatest Hits with the exception of “Muskrat Love.” They played other selections from their early albums such as “Riverside” and “Here,” in addition to later album cuts like “The Border” and their #1 hit in Italy, “Survival” about which they commented, “Not so big here!” They mentioned that “Every year we like to dredge up a song from an obscure album to play at a show” and that song this time around was “Greenhouse” from the Hourglass album.
