Jak podają źródła, w 1948 roku francuski badacz, kompozytor, akustyk Pierre Schaeffer (1910-1995) nagrał za pomocą mikrofonu dźwięki naturalne m.in. (śpiew ptaków, hałas uliczny, rozmowy) i próbował je przekształcać. Tak powstała muzyka nazwana konkretną (fr. musigue concrete). W tym samym roku wyemitował w radiu „Koncert szumów”. Jego najważniejszą kompozycją okazał się utwór pt. „Symphonie pour un homme seul” z 1950 roku. W kolejnych latach muzykę konkretną łączono z muzyką tradycyjną. Oto pionierzy tego eksperymentu: John Cage i Yannis Xenakis. Muzyka konkretna pojawiła się w kompozycji Rogera Watersa. Utwór ten trafił na ścieżkę dźwiękową do filmu „The Body” (1970). Grupa Beaver and Krause wprowadziła muzykę konkretną do utworu „Walking Green Algae Blues” z albumu „In A Wild Sanctuary” (1970), a zespół Pink Floyd w „Animals” (1977). Pierwsze próby tworzenia muzyki elektronicznej miały miejsce w Darmstadt (w Niemczech) na Międzynarodowych Kursach Nowej Muzyki w 1950 roku. Er zijn zo van die albums die je, eens spelend, niet meer kan uitzetten. Doordat de liedjes zo geweldig in elkaar overgaan, en door de frisse afwisseling van melodieën en ritmes, wordt je hem gewoon niet beu. Ik denk dat deze drie mannen, tesamen met de producers, achtergrond singers en computerspecialisten, er heel hard aan hebben gewerkt! Bovendien geven de teksten sommigen zo confronterend kippenvel! En ik maar luisteren toen naar Depeche Mode ook goed natuurlijk. Dat ik dit album niet eerder had is een echt gemis geweest. Maar goed, nu kan ik die verloren tijd inhalen! Een echt meesterstuk! De grote hits van dit album, het titelnummer, Big in Japan en Sounds like a melody kende ik al lang en vond ik al goed, maar 'k had eerder nooit de moeite genomen om hun andere werk te ontdekken. Nu deed ik dat wel en of het de moeite was? Tal van nummers kent Forever young die ook zo singles hadden kunnen zijn. Ik citeer dan vooral de ijzersterke en impact-makende opener A victory of love mogelijk Alphavilles beste nummer ooit? Pas naar het einde toe komen enkele nummers die ietsje middelmatiger zijn. Maar tegen dan is de achting voor Alphavilles werk al zo hoog en omdat Forever Young mijn toch niet zo lage verwachting met gemak overtrof, geef ik dan ook graag de maximale score.
